Sometimes when you have to repair tatting, you only have a short end left to join back to. Here is one technique to rejoin your thread in that situation.

Just came back to say that I had the opportunity to try this technique. I messed up a ring and snapped the thread while trying to work it open. It worked super well and was very easy to follow along with you. So thanks again for sharing your knowledge and skills. Very greatly appreciated!

So lovely to see another tatting video from you. I have missed seeing them. I need to get back into tatting now that I have learned to knit. I have a couple of your shuttles. I will check out your Etsy shop once in a while to see if you have any others for sale. Stay well.

Some time back I had asked for advice on what shuttle would be the best to get. You very kindly told me the brand you prefer. As you had said they aren't made by the same company anymore but I found one that is a reproduction of that particular brand,Aero. They're called Aerlit now. I got one and have had such a lovely time learning to use it! It's so much easier than the big, clumsy, hook less one I had! Thank you so much for your help!😊
@11Frivole

Glad I could help! I hope you continue to get on well with Aerlits (they can sometimes be a bit too tight at the beginning and then become too loose later on). But generally I do find "hooked" tatting shuttles great for ease and speediness. Happy tatting! :-)

I am reading a visual novel (it's a videogame where you just sit and read like it's an illustrated book with music and dialogue) and one of the main characters begins teaching the other character about shuttle tatting. I was so mesmerized by the scene that here I am now, looking at your videos on KZfaq! I'm a man in my 50's and I am suddenly inspired to give this a try! The girl makes bookmarks in the story. I want to do something like that! So I'll be watching a bunch of your videos shortly once I gather the necessary materials. Thanks for making all these great tutorials! The game, by the way, is called 'Letters From A Rainy Day' and here's the opening scene posted on KZfaq: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/f7x6iJtluq6WoYk.html

Hi. I am really enjoying your videos as l am getting back into tatting. I would love to know where you get your beautiful shuttles from, my shuttles have a hook but also a chunky bit at the other end which l find awkward. I have also found a copy of Therese de Dillmont’s book that you recommended and can’t wait for it to arrive. Thank you for inspiring people so well.❤

Hello Carol, thank you for your message. Glad you found the Dillmont book, one of my favourite vintage publications. I make the shuttles I used in my videos, they are modified and decorated Aero shuttles. I regularly have some for sale in my Etsy shop should you be interested (www.etsy.com/uk/shop/LaCossette). 🙂

Tatting is amazing. Such beautiful work - pure artistry. Can anyone send me in the right direction to have a small (baby) apron repaired? This apron was created by a friend's grandmother decades ago. She wants to pass it on to her granddaughter. I can sew, crochet, do many crafts, but I have no idea what to do to help her. Do I dare try to just use regular thread and a needle? One section is a large hole. A couple other small spots. Any advice would be much appreciated.
@11Frivole
@11Frivole Жыл бұрын
Hello, I would have a go with matching thread and a needle, yes. And where there is a hole, you could make a small crocheted motif, since you say you do crochet (Irish crochet lace style), to fill that space and then join it to the apron with a needle. Otherwise, you'd have to find a tatter in your area who could fix it with tatting.

@@11Frivole Thank you so much. I tried to find a tatter in this area but no luck. I will try your suggestions. Plus, there is a chocolate stain I'm going to use lavender oil on. Best stain remover I've ever used.

Hello Mam, another question. What if your shuttle thread is over and i need to wind the shuttle with the ball thread? How will I go about doing this? Do I have to buy a new ball in order to prevent messling with rhe ball thread and avoiid unnecessary joinings?
@11Frivole
@11Frivole Жыл бұрын
Hi Sharon, yes, ideally, if you are working on a large project, you could wind more than one bobbin before you start with your ball and shuttle threads joined continuously. Otherwise, yes, if you do not want to cut your ball thread, you would need another ball to wind your bobbins from. However, it's also good to get used to and feel comfortable with making joins as they are often needed! :-)

Hello Mam. Does this video help when the shuttle thread is over? Or is there another link? Pls do let me know.
@11Frivole
@11Frivole Жыл бұрын
Hello Sharon, do you mean when the shuttle is empty and needs refilling? Yes, it would work for that too but there are many other methods you could use, depending on where you are in your tatting and whether you are using two shuttles or just one. Here's one method for re-joining the shuttle when working this edging: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/hNx2jK6Ws9qcp2Q.html
