The network made a huge mistake firing Gene from the nineties updated Match Game due to his age being revealed on ET. Nobody they used could ever come anywhere even close to filling his shoes.

It was a well known fact. He admitted wrong doing. Tabloids back in the mid 1980's took this fact & blew up the magazines. His wife was such a good lady; Dorothy Jo kept a stiff upper lip. She "knew" he was going "NOWHERE "; & he knew it too. He was so into himself anyways; & he knew no other would be able to understand him loving himself as much as he did..me admitted this too; & Dorothy Jo put him high up on a pedestal like a trophy. She was Very Much "In Love" with her Husband. "Diane" FINALLY figured it out too. No doubt she's Happily moved on... Have a good day.

@ZoneFighter1 No matter who else is the host, Bert Convy never gives an answer and shuts up, he just keeps talking. Convy did the same to Richard Dawson. I think it's like how doctors make the worst patients, Convy makes an unruly player on his own show.

Bobby Van grew up in the Bronx. His real name was Robert Stein. At a Friday night dance held at Hunter College which was located in the Bronx. This was in the 1950’s. His friends asked Bobby to dance. He was amazing. We cheered him on & wished him a success. Lost Bobby to soon

Harriet Guralnick He was an amazing dancer and man. Elaine Joyce was interviewed in the 1990s and she called Bobby the love of her life. My heart went out to her. They knew each other so well.

Bobby and Elaine were a gorgeous couple and fun and so entertaining. Clearly so much love there. So very sad he passed so young. So sad and difficult for Elaine. Hope she found happiness with Neil Simon, her third husband. She seemed happy when pictures of the couple were published. Sure hope she had some happiness with him. She deserved some happiness after being a widow ads young

True but he was totally in his element on the CBS version of Match Game. It really brought out the comedian in him.

In 1976 nbc would put the gong show up against tattletales in the 4:30 pm time slot.

I never saw this show when It aired back then.

Bert Convy Died in 1991 & Bobby Van in 1980 and leaving both Mrs. Anne Convy & Miss Elaine Joyce as widows and no more Miss Joyce Married 3 Times and now She's Married to Mr. Odd Couple Neil Simon and Mrs. Convy is still at home with an new life for herself.

Ben Hallums Bert and Anne split up a couple years before he died, he fell for a pretty young thing. She refused to grant him a divorce until 5 months before he died, so he could be married to his new love when he passed away.

It has always been hard to fathom that Anne and Bert split before he died and he married someone. I can't imagine the drama and turmoil...

I liked Gene he was a great host. He did not check his ego at the door,nor was he happy with Dawson leaving match game he should of been happy for him.

Personally, Gene usually seemed obnoxious to me. I didn’t much care for him on Match Game either.

The fixed that by soddering gene’s mic so he couldn’t telescope it anymore. I’ve actually seen one of them myself some years ago when Barker was wanting to action off one of his old silver Sony mics - there were all in a box at tvc!

Actually, Bert was married the apparent gold-digger his daughter’s age just 5 months before his death. She had him dump Anne and try to keep their marital assets. Anne thwarted that plan until he begged to die with a young widow. It seems so out of his perceived character that one wonders if the brain tumor had changed his personality, values, character? He had certainly seemed obsessive about his age.

Gene was basically a rude, obnoxious man.

No, this was one of those "MC weeks" where Bert would host Monday and Friday's episodes, and the other episodes throughout the week would be hosted by another of the guest hosts, and Bert's then-wife would be there to play for those episodes. In this instance, Match Game's Gene Rayburn hosted the Tuesday episode, and the others were hosted by The Price is Right's Bob Barker and Show Offs' Bobby Van.

She was probably dying a slow death of lung cancer. One of the questions revealed on Tattletales said that the doctor told her to stop smoking. Also google their photos she was very pretty. She looked bad here.

@janethartwig774 I fully agree. He has many fans, and everyone is entitled to their own opinion... But I thought he had a rather fragile ego, "It's MY show" and "I'm the star..." He was creepy with all the kissong and his "binaca spray" bit on MG... Rude and obnoxious, at times, sums it up nicely. Was he good, a majority of the time on MG, yes. Most people love him, yes. Could he be a real jerk, yes... this hosting of TTs just adds further proof of that. Oh well...
