The full name for this show is the Classic and Performance Car Spectacular 2024, held at Tatton Park in Cheshire, but old-timers like me still refer to it as the Tatton Park classic car show 2024, and as usual it is mainly the older cars - vintage and classic - that will feature in this bumper upload.
I got to Tatton early in order to catch many of the arriving classic cars as they snaked into the show field, a number finding the queueing to get in a little too much for their cooling and fuel systems. Once the majority of the exhibiting cars were in place, I headed over to the ticket office and began what was a very lengthy walk around what must be one of, if not the, biggest classic cars shows in the north west of England. It's a two-day show, I just went on the Saturday.
The good thing about these large, very established, car shows is that cars from even quite some distance away make the pilgrimage, and as a result there is usually something to keep every visitor happy.
I addition to the main show, I also spent some time walking around the autojumble area, and visited the classic car auction where a variety of classic cars for sale were viewed, including a number of barn finds - poorly examples of Lancia Fulvia, "pagoda" Mercedes Benz SL missing its floors, and a sad Jensen Interceptor were the highlights for me in the projects category.
Other interesting vehicles included van and pickup versions of the Ford Model Y, a fine selection of BMC cars (Farinas, 1800s etc), Vauxhall Chevette HS and HSR, a variety of Vauxhall Vivas and a Victor F-Type (I interviewed the owner), a brace of BMW 2002s, a very dusty Humber Sceptre, an FSO/FSM Syrena, a 1950s Mk1 Sunbeam Alpine, Austin A30 (AS3 type), Hillman Minx Californian, and a pair of MG YA saloons, to name just a handful. It was also interesting to see a Ford V8 Pilot in the auction area.
Apologies for the length of this one (probably best suited to several sittings!) but it's a big show - I've already binned around 30-40 minutes of extra footage that could have made it in.

The Rolls Royce 856 XVX is bodied by Hooper. The headlights are distinctive to their bodies and the fastback styling was many times too. I saw a couple of these at the fall car show in Hershey PA many years ago. The one you show here is immaculate for sure.

I went with a club on the Sunday. Went for a walk around the independent entries ( where the show starts) and was horrified how many had been squeezed in to the area. Women with push chairs, dogs and kids ,pushing in between the tightly parked vehicles. I'll bet a few discovered scratches and dings on their cherished motors by the end of the day. It was so tightly packed I gave up trying to film amongst them

1:20:04 I really like the Standard Flying V8 too. Its exhaust manifolds are right on the top, and almost in the valley. I assume that this arrangement of the exhaust manifold is to get the exhaust out of the block more expediently, rather than have the exhaust go through runners in the top of the block to the other side. Having the exhaust go through runners in the block to the other side is the arrangement in the 1932 Ford 221 cubic inch flathead V8, and the 1930-1932 Oakland/Pontiac 251 cubic inch flathead V8. This has the downside of increasing the risk of overheating, and eventually causes heat induced cracking in the bridges of metal in the top of the block between the exhaust runners/exhaust outlets in the top of the block and the tops of the cylinders.

Another great OCC video. I was particularly interested in the Standard V8 because a family friend, a manual arts teacher, had one of these back in the 1950s here in Australia. It was the only one I have ever seen, but it was a delightful little car, albeit with some heating problems.

Thanks! nice car, I would suggest that perhaps joining one of the main Jaguar clubs - and also relevant groups on Facebook - would be a good plan to begin with. I think a lot of used parts go onto ebay, in the UK and also in the USA where a lot of Mk1s sold to.

@@oldclassiccarUK 🤞 for nice weather. As a work in progress I feel my car (Maserati 4200) doesn't meet the perfection of a lot of the normal car shows, as it's not stand worthy, not perfect and not quite a supercar. I've been looking forward to the Anything Goes show since seeing your video last summer so thanks for bringing it to my attention 👍

Great show and video, Richard. The Renault 12's brought back memories as it was my first car after college. I couldn't afford the 15 or 17, but the 12 had an extra set of doors that I needed. I DO love the Riley Sprite though. I'm still baffled why anyone would want to operate a giant American boat in the UK though!

Hi 👋 Richard. All old classic cars should be restored. The only thing is that it is costly. The Alfa Romeo GTV is nice. I think they are one of the best looking car designs from the 1970s. Interesting the wind down window in the back. Excellent car display . Thanks from Carl in NZ.

Enjoying your video. For quite some time now I've noticed that there are very few Morris Oxfords in these shows and cars and coffee meets. There lots of the Morris Minors both passenger and commercial but the Oxfords seem to be very scarce. Is there not the interest in the Oxfords. My father had a new 1955 Morris Oxford pick up that I learned to drive in. Had the side valve four cylinder and a four speed column mounted gear shift. I still have the original owners manual. These owners manuals were almost as good as a service manual they told you so much about maintaining the vehicle. Watch and enjoy all your videos and your son Harley's also. Looking forward to seeing more.
@richardsealey3626

Why have you still got the original owners manual?..............
@oldclassiccarUK
@oldclassiccarUK Ай бұрын
The pre-Farina Oxfords don't seem to have survived well, I think Minors were pickup up as "classic cars" quite early and as a result, a huge network of spares support and advice built up around them. The Farina-shaped Oxfords and Cambridges rotted away quite quickly, were harder to repair with their welded-on wings etc, and many were banger raced which saw a lot of them lost forever.

Ha no, never. It's a unique one-of-a-kind vehicle, probably the oldest original racing car transporter in the world, there's no chance I'd butcher it into a camper!! Plus at 5-8mpg it'd be cheaper to fly to more distant shows I think! Thanks for watching.

They are not all classics, they are just old cars, come on, old paintings, old tractors, old furniture, old toys etc. they are collectibles if you want them but calling everything a classic shows you have no sense of how to differentiate the wheat from the chaff. Let’s get a grip and upgrade ur word show😮
@oldclassiccarUK
@oldclassiccarUK 10 күн бұрын
There's no one set definition, it's a very subjective thing - a classic to one person is not necessarily to another, it's just an umbrella term for any car once it gets some age under its wheels.
