my mom and I got a matching tattoo last year. she was like "oh we need to wash our tattoos" next day. and she was like here I'll help you. she proceeded to scrub it with one of the roughest wash cloths in existence. I almost cried. like.... please don't mess up my new ink, yo. that shit hurt. I usually clean them with unscented plain soap, and my hands. and then plain unscented lotion after. I'm so anxious about ruining new tattoos.

@@sweetest_weasel8132 holy shit! "Wash" means to get it wetnwith warm soapy water and gently rub with your fingertips! Yikes man, i cant believe she did that! The goal is to get rid of the exudate seeping from the wound because thats how scabs are born.

Man I hate saniderm because the adhesive irritates my skin and makes it worse when it pulls with movement. I had a red ring around my most recent tattoo for a month after pulling the saniderm off and it was itchier for much longer than previous tattoos. But for people who don't have adhesive sensitive skin it's so convenient!

Yes, it's like Tegaderm and Op-Site clear occlusive dressings, and it's great unless you're sensitive to adhesives. You'd probably get the same reaction to hydrocolloid "blister" dressings too. Silicone medical tape is a great alternative for the people who are allergic to most adhesives. It's repositionable too.

Saniderm is great as long as you follow the instructions. I've heard and seen too many horror stories of people getting Saniderm put on right after the tattoo and just leaving it there for months, FUCKING MONTHS, and then come back to the shop pissed off and asking "why is my tattoo infected". So please everybody do what this person does and follow instructions

@@jturtle5318 that incident was singular and honestly i have no idea either but the guy lost his lower leg. I grew up and work in an old school shop so you have to request saniderm. We have it our main artist and owner just doesn't use it so when this guy requested saniderm we explained it like we have to but we expected him to know what the fuck he was doing. He came back into the shop 3 months later livid and shouting about his infected tattoo. We asked him all the standard questions, and asked to see the tattoo. I called 911 the moment he lifted his pant leg. Because the saniderm was still sealed by what looked like some type of tape on the edges the skin and flesh underneath had wet rotted to the bone. It was nasty and i have no idea how the guy was walking around on it

Tattoo artists dont have the same advice across the board. I've had three different artists, and they all have had slightly different washing solution/schedule instructions. None of them have had me keep the tattoo covered for more than 24 hours after getting it done. They have each recommended different products for keeping the area from drying out and flaking while it heals.

That’s only because he probably finished late and she didn’t plan on showering that night. So she slept with it wrapped overnight so it won’t dry out once she reapplies a wrapping. He most likely initially wrapped her with Saran Wrap then was instructed to apply the waterproof bandage after she was able to wash it the next day.

I've had I don't know how many artists over many years and they've all said to care for it differently. Honestly. The one that's held color vest and still looks the most like it did the first year was the one that I literally did nothing to. He told me to cover it till the next day then don't F with it. Wash it carefully with a mild soap and leave it the hell alone. Healed quicker and looks better than pretty much any of my other tats. He was really good tho so it's not just because of the fatter care.

Saniderm is a lifesaver for me since I work outside. Also, I have healed a few tattoos with and without saniderm and saniderm always heals wayyy better for me. I’m really on top of aftercare for all my tattoos but every tattoo I heal “normally” always needs a touch up and doesn’t come out quite as vibrant and takes longer to heal. Saniderm makes the tattoo look great and it heals way faster for me. same couple artists for all the tattoos with and without saniderm with the same sort of styles, so its not likely is the touched up ones were applied poorly. I even had an unintentional side-by-side test of saniderm. I got two very similar mirrored tattoos on my arms. One saniderm peeled off after only a day since i accidentally got shaving cream all over it. So i healed that one normally and the other kept the saniderm. For me, the one without saniderm scabbed faaar more, and when the scabs fell off some ink was taken with it. The tattoo was all hazy for about a month before it started to look more normal. The saniderm one didnt scab at all really and after a short peel it was vibrant without any spots needing a touch up. Today almost a year later both tattoos look very similar, but one had a touch up at 4 months and at that point the one healed without saniderm still didnt look quite as crisp and vibrant if you looked at it closely. Some people have opposite experiences but for me saniderm is a must for healing my tattoos. If an artist doesn’t have it I apply it myself now.

For those with questions: - You can shower with it on. It lasts the full fivee days even if you shower every single day. - I use it for all of my tattoos so that no dirt gets into it for the first five-ish days while the tattoo stops being raw. It basically means that you don't have to worry about getting infections from anything that touches your tattoo before it is closed. - I personally find it helpful too because I've gotten tattoos away from home and it's made sure my new tattoos didn't leak anything into hotel beds.

Saniderm also has been used for people who have suffered with burns, roadrash, and cuts. Dont be afraid if you might think it damages the skin (it hurts a bit when taking it off without water). And when your tatoo heals, you will sometimes see a bubble of ink and body fluid. That is apart of the healing process and will happen no matter what but the wrap is there so no germs and anything will get in there and cause infection.

Sanaderm was invented for operations and was originally called opsite tape. Now you can get it from multiple companies with multiple names but it’s a god sent for a lot of different dressings and treatments Thank you for showing another way of using it. Looks awesome.

Saniderm essentially large Tagaderm. It's used fire scratches and other wounds to keep them wet to reduce or eliminate scarring.

Saniderm is meant to be placed directly on the ink after it's been finished and washed at the shop to prevent all exposure to potential infections once you leave the shop, not the next day.

Warning to people with sensitive skin or allergies- these can cause scarring or damage to your tattoo if you end up reacting to the adhesive. If you're worried about that definitely say something to your tattoo artist and don't feel pressured to use it. I've never used any of these second skin products and my tattoos healed perfectly fine.

Saniderm or second skin is a game changer. It takes the hassle out of the healing process and the tattoo remains vibrant. It heals very evenly as well, no big sections of scabbing at all.

My tattoo artist has been using this method for quite some time, and I find it really convenient. They put the first sticker on day 1, by day 2 I change it for a new one, from there it's 4 days more and then one last sticker for 4 days and it's all done with that. You can shower, live your life, no worries about the peeling process of the skin and ink, less itching and very unlikely to get it infected, so a win win for me 🎉

I've become diabetic since my last tattoo, so knowing that this is available is great. I still heal very quickly for now, but as I get older I know that will decline. I think Saniderm is just Tegaderm rebranded. Tegaderm is used for wound dressings, over iv ports, and for people with adhesive allergies. You can buy patches in most drugstores in the wound care aisle, but they aren't as large as this Saniderm patch.

I think this would work great for you! Saniderm comes in a roll like aluminum foil and you just rip off as much as you need. It works great but I would use it if you have sensitive skin.

I just followed his instructions, if you go to a good artist you won't have much scabbing etc. The next day I took off the wrap, washed off the slime (the slime is what would turn into a scab if you leave it there) let it air dry then applied the stuff he gave me. Same thing next day. After 4 or 5 days ot was healed perfectly.

As a nurse, i work with a tone of these clear bandages l. Remove thr none adhesive side pattern cover first, it will make the whole thing more flexible. Pluse, you dont want it super tight or to have it stretching the skin as that can cause fraction blisters. As for the duration, it is a fresh wound, so i prefer every other day such as (Mo. Mi.Fri) or (Di.Do.Sa) just because of bacteria build up. However, i am not a tattoo artist, i am only a home patient care nurse and my patients require more regular bandage changes.
