My recommendation for getting a tattoo: No names unless the person is dead or your child Pay twice as much as you want. Three times for cover ups Make sure the artist does the style you want Hang the art on your bathroom mirror for at least a month before getting it to make sure you like looking at it every day

Tiny Valkyrie don't put your child's name on your skin either. They may change it - and if they change it because they're trans, it's going to make them extremely uncomfortable if you still have their dead name on your skin. Date of birth of each child is pretty safe.

Teal Rose that is an excellent point. I do think there could be tasteful ways to change a name tattoo of a trans child. Depending on the relationship, the parent could involve their kid in changing or covering up the dead name as a demonstration of acceptance, but not every parent/child relationship would allow that and during the difficult transition it could be very painful for both involved.

I feel like with the shape of that tattoo at 6:33 (the tribal on the arm) that could've been covered up by an owl! It's literally shaped like an owl and has 2 giant spaces for eyes, feathers with some deep black in the right places to hide the tribal. Instead of that black mess on their arm.

I think I finally get the hummingbird. I think the artist was trying to use the points of the star to affect like blur-lines, from the wings moving up and down so fast, and that's why those other smudge lines are there and the extra wing-looking thing. But it just makes it look like the whole bird is moving from side to side instead, and that for some reason it has two tails.

My mom had her ex’s name tattooed over her heart in a typical heart with a ribbon. After they broke up she put a solid black arrow through the name. It was just... very obviously a coverup.

So just curious as I'd never even consider the thought of dating a woman with another man's name tattooed on them... Has she found somebody else? I couldn't ever get over seeing another man's name on a woman I'm with and her not getting it lasered off just tells me everything I would need to know.

Breakneck well, my mom was a lesbian so it was another woman’s name that you couldn’t see through the cover up arrow. And yes, in fact, she found several partners after she and my step mother broke up, including one she was committed to until the day she died, who was also an ex of the woman whose name my mom had tattooed and later covered up.
