Thanks guys I thought my stencil machine was damaged,, after 26 years of using spirit paper I never doubted it,,, well I started using electrum paper and boom,,, problem solved,, keep up the amazing work,,,,, Darryl B

Fantastic episode, thank you! Have you ever tried Butterluxe Stencil Glue? It was sold out for a long time but I recently got my hands on it and switched from Green Gold permanently. If you ever do that stencil fluid comparison video I highly recommend adding this one to the trial! 😊

Great show.. thanks for the time invested. The upper arm tattoo you was working on.. 👌👌 man, I love those trash polka type styles.. reminds me of early 2000s when I was still painting walls in and around London when alot of us were bringing grafic design looking photo copy kinda stuff into the scene.. repeat pattern stencils etc.. I miss those days.. I think I wanna paint walls again 😂❤ Thanks Guys

Thanks for doing this test (in no way could I have carried the test out) think on my next purchase of stencil paper, I will try Electrum. Since watched your brother video of using 12v power supply, my brother pocket jet PJ-623 has been my stencil machine for the past 5 years. Anyhoo cheers Purple Preacher Cult of Paul 🤘

Great informative video Paul (as always), I'm having the same issue with Spirit and have to use tape or "flick" method to remove excess purple! A comparison of stencil solutions would be great too! I use the S8 red stencils for darker skin and also for text tattoos, but sometimes find that they come out too light on the skin - but maybe that's down to my solution (Electrum?) - I'm going to have to go and find some Honey solution! Keep up the great work guys!

I’ve stop using spirit and moved to electrum, it’s wasn’t because of any issues I had with the spirit paper but I just couldn’t get hold of it as sometimes supplies didn’t have it in stock. I haven’t looked back, electrum is just as good and I don’t get purple hands anymore or face or any other body part…. Haha… Stencil stuff is great for electrum. Cheers guys

Nice to know there are some solid stencil paper options available, cheers for this Paul. 👍👍👍 Not surprised to see Stencil Stuff under performing either. I did a stencil fluids review for Tattoo Master a few years ago and it was really poor in longevity considering it’s seen as the granddaddy of stencil application solutions.

What were your finds.. I’d be keen to know.. I do rate the Electrum gold standard, however, a year back I got the itch to try some new ones, I tried the Aloe stencil applicator, it is good and does hold a lot better than Electrum, but seemed to not make the finer details of the stencils as clear.. but would be first class for a bold line artist, really holds well.. however, I tried the Hornet Honey stencil gear a few moth back and it is literally leaps ahead of every other one I’ve ever tried.. holds really well, doesn’t bleed at all as the day drags on which is great if you do the kinda work where you finish the bottom area of a piece before you move up/realism etc. it also stays super crisp and goes on dark everytime.. another bonus is it’s very sticky, which is great if your good at placing stencils first time, not so good if not. 😂😂 Also.. Aloe do a stencil remover that blows all the others out the water.. so good..

I’ve been using the epson printer with liquid stencil stuff and it’s a huge game changer. Way more expensive though and sold out most places

If you do a Stencil solution review video, please try the Proton Tattoo Stencil Primer Gel, imo it’s the strongest primer I’ve experienced

Electrum gold standard paper is absolutely amazing. Love it with my pocket jets, tried the recommended 12v power supply swap with two different power supply on both pj 773 and pj 763mfi and the stencil gets half way through and the printer shuts its self off like it can't get the power it needs like a hard instant shut down. I can get it to work if I remember correctly using only density 3 or 4 , but yea that power supply swap didn't work too well for me. And felt like it wasn't the best for the printer as it's turning itself off, now happily enjoying the pj 883 with no issues and can print from any device or way I want. Also had really good results with the pj522 the old model 200dpi this model actually works the best for me with spirit paper still but the newer printers the gold standard is giving me perfect results

Has to be a decent quality 12v 2amp psu. Others have had the same problems with cheaper or slightly different psu’s 👍

A year or so ago the guy I bought my thermofax from came by to service the machine, he’s been selling them for a very long time. He told me that spirit paper had changed hands from the original owner and creator of the company, and also that the manufacturing process had changed, something about one of the chemicals used in the original paper being unavailable or unfit for use anymore. He said the papers aspirins to going “off” if it was stored above a certain temperature and that as tattooers we would need to adapt because things were not going to be the same.

I see how “flick” work, have you try to use paper tape, to take out all left overs stencil carbon from the paper ? It work properly in my experience 😀

I'm an old fart and still us a p80, a lot of these thermal carbon papers can't cope at all with a p80 and the carbon fuses to the transfer sheet or completely blacked out, thanks for doing this, very interesting

Very good, educational and well informative video, I've enjoyed watching it until the end. I am just confused about one thing, Why is the green spirit paper called green, if it's actually blue colour?

Thanks, green spirit paper is called “green” because it’s actually green. They have the standard purple/bluey colour and they also have red and green. Hope that clears it up for you.

I've had it with the last batch of purple. It was that bad I don't use it. My thoughts are that since the lockdowns they drastically dropped off and I think it's definitely to do with who they're getting the carbon from. It's almost like the cheap Chinese stuff. In the interest of fairness I've had no issues with the green spirit paper.

Hey there! Super thankful for the test video! I have a question!! I'm just started to tattoo and I have a concern. Whenever i put my stencil on a client (friend) I cant se the lines i'm pulling because the stencil is so dark (purple) and its hard to tell if the line is god or not (the purple is strong against the black line) What can I do?

Get the barber DTS paper. It’s lighter and easier to see lines etc

So, just on my supply site, looked at the details of a few of these brands.... Sprit, Ghost and Electrum and S8 Red are all under the ReproFX umbrella - Now, that's according to just my supply, but they're pretty good about their details on the page. So I wonder..... Are we just being sold different formulas from the same monger? Love you and your wisdom, I really appreciate you and the show, Sir. Lol, the SpiritFlick, so true.

Some of the papers look do look quite similar so maybe in some cases yeah, possibly. But in my test all the papers were a little different. 👍

I gave also the same problem with the spirit paper, i was beginning to think it was my printer. I get the flicks of with scotch tape. I was also looking for new paper so thanks for the good info 😎🫶 Really informatief KZfaq channel 🫶🫶

A friend of mine had those issues really recently. Funny how big of a difference the fluid made with the dts paper. Would love to see a stencil fluid showdown video, maybe even a paper-fluid match making video

I really want to find a stencil paper I use all the time I just feel like products nowadays just aren’t up to par like they used to be. It just sucks that spirit paper isn’t as good as it used to be because I bought multiple packs and now I just have a lot of trouble out of it

I have bought 4 eco tank printers in the last 12 months along with electrum eco stencil ink just keeps clogging all the time and no matter how many times I clean the heads it just clogs and I end up having to throw them away as Epson won’t fix em just a money pit and stencils don’t last I’m now going with thermal printer instead

Nothing wrong with the paper I use it all the time and works great could be user error. Or printer. I always get a beautiful dark stencil using anchor solution.

There are a lot of people in the industry that are having issues with the new batches of spirit paper, it’s well documented on multiple social media platforms. That’s great that you aren’t having any issues as spirit paper was the best option and one stencil paper that we have been using for the majority of our careers

Is spirit made in china? Coz I’ve come across this sort of thing before with Truck tyres, Double Coin heavy truck tyres were fantastic in the early 90’s & small fleet and large fleet alike were being ordered by the container load, but it wasn’t long before Double Coins were crap! I call it the Chinese Bait & switch. They get a good name by supplying a good product & then greed kicks in & an inferior product becomes the norm. To the point now I don’t know anyone in the Aussie transport industry that gets double coin tyres anymore

Very good point AND it’s a point I think we’re about to reach in tattooing. Over saturation and the ‘bait and switch’ tactics are making older, western brands look more and more reliable and ultimately cheaper in the long run. I for one welcome a return to ‘by artists for artists’ brands. Ones with a real interest in the tattoo world and all it has to offer rather than ‘get rich quick’ scammers. - p

Spirit paper is absolute dog shit now. The inconsistency from box to box is completely unacceptable. I've done the lint roller technique and it worked well, wasn't entirely bothered by it, but got a new box yesterday and every single sheet has a few random lines the entire way across with no dye on it so every single stencil I print from this batch is going to have annoying blank lines throughout it. Absolute joke of a product. Just ordered some Electrum to try out.
