AMX 13 105 Review/Guide, Underpowered But Still Fun

6 жыл бұрынI review the AMX 13 105, a tier 10 French light tank in World of Tanks (WoT), with replays of Siegfried Line and Steppes battles.
The AMX 13 105 combines a hard-hitting, inaccurate autoloader with light tank mechanics (always-on camouflage). The tank can be fun and frustrating in the same battle. I hope that Wargaming improves its gun accuracy and reduces its terrain resistances, as the tank is currently underpowered.
Strengths and Weaknesses
+ Excellent frontal gun depression (-8)
+ Excellent alpha (390)
+ Manageable clip size (3)
+ Good top speed (68)
- Very poor accuracy (0.42), much worse than the tier 7-9 French lights (0.38)
- Turns very slowly for a light tank due to high terrain resistances
- Poor gun elevation (+12)
- Relative to other tier 10s, low view range (390)
- As with all tier 10 lights, suffers from high penetration loss over distance

Hi robert, Thanks for the positive feedback, I appreciate it. I do platoon, but I'd estimate I've solo-queued 90% of my battles. There is some value in showing platoon coordination (e.g. the 2nd battle in my Skoda T50 battle where a T30 and I pulled off a massive comeback carry), but in many cases a strong platoon can steamroll the other team so there aren't as many challenging situations to navigate and talk about. I've never used mods, and I've only fired silver ammo in Random Battles. I believe gold ammo is very problematic for tank balance and creates a pay-for-advantage context. I've been asked why I use neither of those things many times, so I've answered them in the FAQs on my blog, in case you are curious... I LOVED the first battle, the way you think and move. And comment. Pure pleasure to watch. To add: AMX 13 105 the only LT10 to have 1000m/s shell velocity on APCR (wtf?) And imo the only superlight on tier 10 and fully competitive and a real scout is a T-100, tbh with T-100 you don't need any other LT10

Thanks. I did get lucky at the end of the battle, but I did play well enough to get that far. I agree with you about the T-100 LT - it is the only tier 10 light that has mechanics that work very effectively. The mobility, small size, turret armor, and low moving dispersion make it a terrific mobile gunner.

It either should get AP on stock (for normalization) or buff APCR velocity to min 1200 (1350 would be nice)

well, personally I used it with the standard LT set - optics, rammer, stab, but I guess swapping rammer for vents or binoculars can make sense too, since rammer gives a very tiny reload advantage. Platooned with 2xT-50, 70% winrate, it's lovely

I usually use that "cruise control" hotkey so that I can focus on typing. It helps.

Tier 10 LTs still needs some more love from WG. I have to say I like 105 despite all it´s downsides you have mentioned and you are definitely correct about it. There is one more I would add and that is gun elevation. Sometimes it can be a bit problem. Still it´s fun tank to play and that clip potential can hurt enemies pretty badly ;-)

The gun elevation (+12) in the 13 105 is the same as the 13 90, and the line has poor gun elevation in general. So I'm OK with it, in terms of that being consistent with the line. The poor accuracy and poor turning are unwarranted though.

Absolutly love all the light/med guides recently switched to them from being a heavy tank driver only. I would love to see way more vids like this. Eventho am going for the batchat. Keep it up!!!

Yes, the tier 10 lights have slightly underpowered view range. Although I think the poor accuracy and penetration loss are bigger issues, given that you can get to 445+m with a decent crew. That player's name was Retired_Gunz so my guess is he's an older player.

I am not a great WOT player (xvm of 1179), but after 169 games in the 13 105, I have a 55% WR.

one thing to consider with capping is if you have deployment advantage around the cap it force them to act about it (especially in artyless games) from a warship player where capping influence the course of battle hugely if you have cap advantage and they cant easily reset you the burden of taking action is on them and you can "fortify" around the cap and pbast people trying to get in. here this advantage is somewhat diminished as tank are faster to move around the map as ships and the spotting mechanics being somewhat different but it is stll an advantage in some situation, not all of course

Thanks Armas and I hope the video helps you with your 13 105. You picked a very high skill cap line (French lights) to progress up, but I've also found it to be one of my favorite lines in the game. Light tank autoloaders are so much fun :)

The accuracy buff of the artillery was an indirect nerf to all the fast and lightly armored tanks - yeah, artillery was previously able to one-shot people, but because it was way more inaccurate, they wouldn't bother aiming for the fast moving vehicles. But now, even if their penetration was nerfed, they are still able to fully penetrate the lightly armored vehicles, and with the buff to their accuracy, there you go -> shotgunning light tanks all day long. To be honest, I was never one-shot'ed so many times going full speed by the artillery before as I did in the last months after the "artillery nerf". FeelsBadMan

Thanks again for this new video. Video on the great T30 would be perfect, that would change a lot from LTs. I'm wondering what I could do better with my T30. When I play it every game is super fun, its contribution is often crucial to the game, I've got lots of Aces among my hundreds of battles, though I hardly reach blue stats with it whereas I'm currently on purple for LTs, Meds and HTs. I know I don't have to load apcr to shine on tier 10-11 battles, but I'd appreciate your tips! Also, adding some tips on how to fight it could be interesting! I'm trying hard to figure out if there is a perfect sidescraping position for the T30 (can fire, but enemy can't hit and pen).

The T30 isn't fast, which makes it hard to react to situations not nearby. I have like a 2.7 WN8 on my T30, which is lower than nearly all of my tier 9 lights and mediums.

That was awesome I am also going down the french line at the amx 12 t tier 6, but like alot of others most likely going for the batchat medium. WG is really whacking the nerf hammer on the light tanks

As usual very useful vids!!! are you able to do something that shows how you recommend starting on each map and and each side, and best possible locations, im aware you give quite a few different locations through out all your clips, but just the first 1-3 mins of each map 1 or 2 suggested locations depending on how many scouts you have to best give best locations to give your team the best chance to a good start (assuming they actually shoot what you show them ;) )

I cannot believe how bad my wz-132-1 plays. I cant beat 45% w/r in that lt for the life of me. It's all about that absolute shit gun. From tier 6 to tier 9 I avg 55-62%w/r. BUT that 132-1's gun is so useless there is no point at all to play it. I am so frustrated over this. I put so much time into grinding and it's a complete disappointment. My current grinds I'm halfway through the 1390 and amx 50 100. I have a feeling that the next tank in line for both are going to be another disappointment. Glad to see a tic in upload frequency. I'ma big fan of your content. keep up the good work.

Paul griffith 50120 is a bit of a weirdo, I had a better time running the 100mm on it but it was pre-superheavy-meta. It's neither a sniper nor a brawler, it's not great at usual autoloader things, like ambushing and drive-bys either. Some call it a support vehicle and others a pice of crap ;) You have to work the positioning game well in it, look for cross fires, don't try to empty a full clip too often, as you gonna get hit twice for it. Don't try to bully, stay around your teammates, don't overextend, don't snipe too much. It may not be the most fun tank to play but it's not a total stinker either, there are much worse grinds in the game and it will make you love the 50B even more.

The tier 10 tanks have frustrating guns to play with - this really needs to be addressed by WG. I loved the AMX 50 100 - it was my 1st real autoloader and I learned to play autoloaders in that tank - but I do not like the 50 120 nor the 50B. They're simply too squishy and big for my taste.

Bad gun in LT?? Really?? You are a fucking scout. Focus on it. Ditch stabs for vents and literally only spot. Learn to spot. Learn not used OP roads for spotting. Learn cheat bushes

I really love the French light line. I haven't picked up the 13 105 because of concerns over the things you point out are bad about it. Your review makes me even less likely to buy it. I'll just stick with the 13 90. None of the Tier X lights seem worth it, to me.

Despite those bad things, I still think 13 105 is worth it. I enjoy both, 13 90 and 13 105. With -8 degrees of gun depression and 390 alpha, it can be really punchy. Hit hard and run. I would say 105 has it´s own flavour and maybe you should try it. Overall, for LT lover, 105 is solid tool. Don´t give up 105 unless you try it ;-)

the batchat 25T really got nerfed when they gave it that new model. oh, wait, that's a light tank. love the gameplay and commentary as always. I am curious tho, have you played the M41 90 GF? its crazy good because it has the same stats as it did before the light tank general nerf.

It's weird how the lights don't have a lot of view range, lights are meant to spot and assist when possible and it would be a nice thing if you could drop the optics and put Vents on it or something. I don't understand why the T-100 and the AMX 13 105 only have 390m base view range.

E/D for forward/backward W/R for left/right So my EDWR are the same as any MMORPG. Q for auto-aim Right-click for sniper mode (this is what a lot of FPS games use) T/G for cruise control forward/backward And oh yes, the important one: repair kit on 5, so hitting 5 twice will repair a track

I simply cannot wait for the t30. The shape of those tanks is very appealing to me. I've almost unlocked the Sp1c. I'm hoping the bc 12t is going to help me learn to be conservative and make the pea shooters useful.

The mechanics of the Bat Chat 12t really forces the driver to be patient and take advantage of opportunities carefully. I learned a lot from playing it, and I think it's better than people believe.

Taugrim I think it's the alpha, pen and clip potential that people get put off by. In my case I dreaded playing the vk2801 now that it lost the 105, ended the game with completing stug iv mission 15 with honours. The alpha is low and you sometimes bounce, but until I finished the match, I actually forgot I was tier 6

Did fine, had like a 70% solo win rate and 3.2k WN8. The peashooter is even better now with the buff to AP penetration. There are some players who made a big deal about the VK losing it's derp gun, but IMO the 7.5cm in its post-9.18 state is much better and more reliable.

Hey taugrim, great stuff. A while back I got the ELC and loved it. I still do, even after the nerfs; I use chocolate now to keep it competitive because it’s rather underpowered now. Anyway, once I got it I stopped the line there. I had no interest in continuing up, but recently I’ve been wanting to. What are your thoughts on the line as a whole, starting from the AMX 12t?

I love the French light tank line from 6-9, although I haven't played the 13 75 yet. The AMX 12t, Bat Chat 12t, and AMX 13 90 are all very capable tanks. The tier 10 is underpowered and can be frustrating, but I still like to play it.

That 2nd shot against the 704 didnt miss, you werent aiming dead center on his back, and the 2nd shot hit just track. The funny thing here is... the same thing happened with the Obj. 261 in the 2nd game... your s1st shot slipped his track. You stopped his turn for him to shotgun you. We need to play some more.... Ive not been in tanks a lot this past week, but Imma try and be on this upcoming one.

I'm so torn regarding the T10 light tanks. I had the 13 90, 54 ltwt and ru 251 when the light patch dropped. I love the changes to the 13 90 and will be keeping that tank. I think the 13 105 and whatever the hell the German t10 is called look pretty meh... so I have been concentrating on the t100 lt. In your opinion which is better the 13 105 or t100 lt? That .42 accuracy is pretty damn bad.

Consensus among Unicums is the T-100 LT is the best tier 10 light tank. It is so small, has a good turret, and very low dispersion on the move.

You should use auto-aim more. Against the 704, if you had used it, you would have been able to stay in 3rd view so that you can stop precisely where you are behind him. Also you can anticipate its movements.

I'm not sure if the EBR is coming to console or not, but I saw how reckless it is to drive it. As much as I'd love to be super fast, the best playstyle for me might be the AMX because of the slow reload. I'm used to the OBJ 705A and Jagdtiger E100's slow style. Gives me time to think.

I find that I have to play well to overcome the 13 105's deficiencies. When I'm very focused and don't make mistakes, I can carry in it. But that shows that the tank is underpowered. I do enjoy playing it, so I hope WG gets around to giving it and the Sheridan, Rhm Pzw, and WZ-132-1 needed buffs.

Yes that applies to all light tanks, you have to be careful and keep distance because they are fragile. I feel like it's because they are more of a support tanks and are not quite meant to carry. However, what bothers me the most about 13 105 is traverse speed and view range. It turns like a heavy tank, which does not make sense. And I have higher view range on my tier 8 medium M4A1 Revalorise than on 13 105, which again does not make sense. Speed and view range should be the major advantage of a light tank.

I have to say that ( been watching for maybe 2 years ) that his videos sound so much as an "after construction" raw swedish english translation. there are some streamers that comment while they stream and then upload with no editing. things are going well for this guy so kudos ... but the commenting .... I just smile every time. If he thought that fast as he is commenting then he would be at the level of skill4ltu who thinks slower then taugrim. Skill4ltu just have a better battle plan to begin with and works very slowcompared to tagrims commentary speed. So it is not belieavble

Thank u so much for this video. I loved American lights and I had them all but not the Sheridan (I was affraid to by because it was underpowered). Then I bought sheridan just because it was on sale. Now I have my beat performance (62%Win rate, 3k wn8) in Sheridan. Im a joe average with 53% and 2k wn8. Now im thinking about buying AMX 105. Would you think it's a good idea? How do u think sheridan compares to this tank? Im not good with mediums but I love lights.

Grats on doing so well in the Sheridan! I struggled with its big size, but I'll have to give it another go. The Sheridan and AMX 13 105 play very differently. I prefer the AMX because of the autoloader. Aside from the superb gun depression of -10, the Sheridan doesn't really have anything special about it, and the big size coupled with squishy armor are a tough combination to play with.

Why do you leave sniper mode before firing? Some of those shells that you missed might have hit if you would have instead stayed in snipermode and aimed...

It was a mistake only for the 2nd shot on my 1st clip against the 704. I'd just fortunate that mistake didn't change the outcome of the battle, because that was a huge whiff. I generally leave sniper mode right *after* firing, not before.

Theres pretty much no reason to go for 13 105. The only advantage is camo while on the move and slightly more agile. But the fact that batchat is so much more healthy and the much better gun makes it a clear choice atleast for me.

I don't use premium ammo in Random Battles, here's why: taugrim.com/2015/02/19/road-to-unicum-guide-videos-for-world-of-tanks/#no-gold-ammo I think carrying HE in an autoloader is a waste. The clip reload time is so long, so it's not like single-shot tanks where you can switch easily with no downtime.

VStab, Vents, and GLD. The aim time is higher than the intra-clip reload, that's why GLD is needed.

You should train Camo on your crews but never use Camo Net - there are better equipment options.

2nd shot on the 704 didn't miss. Aim was temporarily atrocious. Looks like your hand was shaking but your aim skitted onto his track and nowhere near the centre of the rear hull.

I don't have the BatChat 25t AP in my garage, but I did review a very similar tank: the tier 9 Lorr 40t. I've been playing the T26E5 and Lowe recently. I enjoy lights and mediums more than heavies given their mobility and vision control. Plus, most light drivers play their tanks incorrectly so I feel I can really help the team in a light tank.

Ignorance. The global stats for lights and "tank curves" show that most players perform worse in light tanks as a class compared to other classes.
