The Taurus PT99 /92 is made on Beretta Machinery in Brazil since 1980. In my opinion, it's one of the best firearms Taurus makes. Is it the Ultimate Beretta 92 Clone? I think so. #TaurusPT92 #Beretta92 #Taurus

Back in 1980/81 I saw an ad in Shotgun News. I ran down to my local gun store and ordered a 99AF. I payed $179.00 for it and I'm quite sure that I was one of the first people in America to get one as it was stamped ser.# 00183!! I sent it to Robar and had it NP3 coated and stockpiled over a dozen mags. A few years later it was my 'gun-of-choice' when I went to Masaad Ayoob's course known as LFI-1...a couple years later I went to LFI-2. Trigger is as smooth as you could ask for (maybe the NP3 had some effect on that). I just couldn't be happier with it. Now going on 40 years it has never had a single malfunction!

Probably is 100% like the "original" Beretta... for some expert is better (for example for the double side sicure...the alluminum look, beautiful for me). If the Beretta is a good, and for someone "definitive" gun in 9mm... the taurus PT is also good.

I’m jelly 😭 my father in law just got one for $250 I was wondering where to get one and seen they were made in the 80s and they’re super rare so I’ll probably never get my hands on one. I guess I’ll have to bite the bullet and pay the extra few hundred for a true 92

My dad bought a Taurus PT 92AF from a co-worker in the mid 80's, when my father passed in 2011, it was handed down to me and still fires as dead nuts accurate as it did when he got it. When I pass it will go to my oldest son.

Did you know that here in Brazil, Taurus CEO, Salésio Nuhs, wrote a letter to our government recommending that Brazilians be disarmed and no longer have the right to bear arms, even though the Brazilian people are almost being enslaved by a socialist dictatorship with its new ruler Lula ? And that Lula has connections with the Venezuelan dictator Nicolas Maduro, narco criminal, with Vladimir Putin, Daniel Ortega, and several other current tyrants? Lula wants to disarm us Brazilian and Taurus collaborates with the disarmament. If you appreciate freedom, DO NOT BUY TAURUS GUNS AND AMMO FROM CBC! If you ask me why, it's the good old lobby with the new government, which buys ammunition, in addition to market control in Brazil, to prevent competitors from arriving in Brazil.

Thanks for the great review. I have had a Taurus PT99 or PT92 continuously since 1990 and they have served me well. They are heavier than the typical polymer handgun but the extra weight seems to reduce recoil and help increase accuracy.

Back in the 1980s, Beretta signed a contract with the Brazilian Army to exchange the weapons used until then, the Colt 1911. After the end of the contract, Beretta sold its factory, projects and machinery to Taurus. Today the Taurus factory is based in the city of São Leopoldo in the state of Rio Grande do Sul. Currently one of the most sold pistol by Taurus in Brazil is the TS9, a good firearm. 🇧🇷🇺🇲

I bought a 92 back in the mid late 80s and must have put well over 10,000 rounds thru it (won a raffle for 1 yr membership to a local range and I reloaded). One of the best guns I've ever owned. Never had a problem. I even shot light lead bullet loads and some really hot ones. Gun just would not stop. Yo Sootch, if Butch wants to sell that gun back to me let me know! I sold it to buy books for wife's nursing school in early 90s. I really miss that gun. I'm going to go listen to some old GNR, drink an adult beverage and cry a little. Yeah, that's how much I miss that pistol. Bro, great video!

Ha ha mine, actually it was my first semi auto pistol, since the very early 80s, and unfortunately after several 3 or 5 thousand rounds through it in the early 2002 had to send it to TaurusUSA for repair the mag release was locked up and had to pry the mag out with a screwdriver five days after mailing it I got it back cleaned up shinier than when I sent it and a letter of apology. Can’t beat that for quality and service. In fact the majority of firearms in handguns is a Taurus.

Great video ! I bought my 99af mid 1984 and never looked back ! Still carry it today . It has never failed me . I have run untold thousands of rounds through it ,It's just as accurate as the day I bought it ! I've had exactly 6 failures and all were caused by ammo issues . The finish is still as great as the day I bought it . The only thing I changed was the grips I have really big hands so many years ago I bought a set of neoprene wrap around finger groove grips {Hogue I think } which I had to modify just a fuze with my dremel around the safety levers . These are really underrated pistols ! I wouldn't trade my 99af for two new clocks of my choice ! I'm right handed and as I have grown older with arthur setting into my hands and fingers I swapped the mag release to the right side so I can use my middle finger to dump the mags . Thanks !!!!

The first pistol that I ever owned was a Taurus PT92 back in 1993. If memory serves me correctly, I believe that "Shooting Times" performed a 10,000 round test on the PT92 using "Black Hills" ammunition. The author of the article used the 10k rounds to shoot a tree apart in his back yard. I wanted the PT92 after reading about it. But I was also just a kid.

Plus you can carry it cocked and locked. No decocking lever would be a con to some people, I guess. For me, it was just too big and bulky to lug around for a carry gun when their are lighter more compact guns with same capacity

You bought a great gun. I've owned a Taurus PT99 for 30 years and it is currently my EDC. I know it is big and heavy but with a good rig and belt I carry this gun for hours on end without any discomfort. I've owned many guns over the years but this one I've kept and it is reliable and accurate. I've shot thousands of rounds and the only problem I've had with it was related with the magazines so I recommend after market ones. Otherwise it has been a fantastic weapon.

I'm a very happy owner of the Taurus PT 92 AFS. My pistol is the gloss anodized frame with brushed stainless slide, de-cocker model. If, like me, you don't wear XL gloves, the mag release is a little bit of a stretch. Fortunately, the mag release is also ambidextrous. Switching the release to " lefty" allows the trigger finger easy access to the release without having to make significant changes to your grip. Simply use a punch, or similar slim utensil to over depress the mag release button until the offside guide lug clears the housing. With the button depressed, just unscrew the guide lug. Carefully, so as not to lose the spring, remove the button and spring. Re-insert the button assembly from the right side of the frame, making sure the spring and button shaft are centered in the gallery. Again, with your punch, depress the mag release button until you can screw the guide lug back on. There's a bit of extra thread on the shaft to allow easy centering of the lug into the frame housing. You can make the switch in less time than it took me to tell you how. Happy shooting!

Many years ago I bought a PT99AF. I had enough money for a Beretta, and had both out on the counter at the gun shop. I really liked the frame mounted safety of the Taurus, which is why I bought it instead of the Beretta. In all these years I've only had a few failures to feed, and those were with the Ramline magazine that had the squirrelly roll up spring. I discarded those and use only Taurus and Mecgar mags, never a failure of any sort, with any bullet type. Goes "Bang!!!" every time.

These were made with beretta machinery when Taurus bought the beretta plant in Brazil. At some point, Taurus decided to use its own machinery to build the guns, and the quality is not so good as before, still tough guns, but not like the 90's models.

Qualified on the Beretta M9 when in the U.S. Air Force and disliked it: decocker was awkward was the killer for me. The Taurus PT92 9mm pistol is NOT a knock-off of the Beretta 92F, but m-u-c-h better than the M9 as it has the decocker AND safety in the traditional M1911 position for such. Had a Glock, but got rid of it and years later, was nice to get a DA/SA pistol + it's safer. Good pistol!!!

Just a correction, Beretta open up a factory in Brazil after WWII they only produce single shot shotguns an the little Beretta 950B .25 Caliber. During the 80s they won the contract for the Brazilian military and later sold the operation to Taurus. The had the factory since 1950. Also your Taurus I have 2 of them your pistol Was made at the old Beretta factory in São Paulo later they moved the production to Rio Grande do Sul. The old Taurus like ours are better, all forged steel parts no MIMI or cast parts. They are excellent and are beautiful and more accurate than the Beretta 92FS. Congratulations you have a great pistol!

I have an early PT92AF blued. I replaced the grips with checkered rubber put Millet adjustable target sights on it and polished the action. Interesting that you said Beretta mags don't work as I don't have that issue. Also, the extractor is also a loaded chamber indicator. I live in an open carry state and my disability makes belt or shoulder carry very uncomfortable so I carry in a Blackhawk Serpa thigh holster. Much easier access inside the vehicle if necessary too and plainly visible to law enforcement for safety reasons. It's more than accurate enough and 17rds brings peace of mind.

My Taurus PT99AF was purchased new in the late 80's - a very accurate and very reliable pistol. I have shot thousands of rounds through it over the years pretty much all just range / target grade ammo (white box Winchester and a metric ton of UMC) - not sure that it has ever malfunctioned that I can recall.
