Just got my TX22 last week and had THE WORST time field stripping it for initial cleaning. Thanks to this video, I figured out the barrel was very difficult to "break loose" (as it's designed to do when you pull down the disassembling latch). I put a few drops of gun lube on the rails of the barrel, worked it back on and then loose again. NOW my TX22 is disassembling and reassembling easily. So...attention new owners: you may need to lube the rails along the barrel as you break this pistol in!

It's been many years since I've done much shooting. But almost two years ago, I retired and moved from CA to TX. I was certainly aware there were major differences with the gun and knife laws between these two states. But one weekend I was looking for something to do, so I visited a local Gun Show. OTF and automatic knives are still a novelty to me, so I picked up a couple of those to fidgit with. Then I passed a table with replacement threaded pistol barrels and a light came on. Since the only handgun I currently owned was a Charter Arms .44 Special, I had nothing applicable and kinda forgot about them. Then I got a marketing email from a knife and gunshop advertising these Taurus TX22s and I noticed they came from the factory with a threaded barrel. This caught my attention and so did the price. After watching a few youtube videos I walked into my local gunshop and walked out with a brand new TX22 standard. I had been considering the newer "compact" model, but after holding the standard I saw no reason to eliminate any of the grip length. To make a long story longer, that was yesterday and tonight I spent watching more youtube videos before planning to find a shooting range. Like you, I don't always completely research the tear down and reassembly procedures before taking the first shot at it for myself. And like you, I often get to a step in the procedure where I could use a little more knowledge before proceding. Guess I really just wanted to say "Thanks for the video" and don't beat yourself up over running into a spot where things didn't go as you expected. That happens to me all the time and if I hadn't seen it happen to you, then I wouldn't have known to get a little more info for myself before proceding. You and all the other non-professional youtubers make my life a lot easier and I appreciate it.

Nice video, screw-ups and all. Good for you to include them. I own a couple of these and use them in my training classes. I have a couple hints for you. First off, good for you to clean before first use. Hardly any new gun owners do that. Secondly, DO NOT leave your TX 22 so wet with lube. 22lr is notoriously dirty and all the extra lube will lead to failures. Keep it clean and dry and only lightly lube friction points. Last of all I suggest that you disassemble the magazines and thoroughly clean them with a brush and a product like Ballistol. The TX 22 has been known to misfeed solely because the mags have manufacturing residue inside the mags. My first TX 22 has well over 10,000 rounds through it. I did get a new barrel early on courtesy of Taurus. Other than that I've had very few hiccups and nothing very serious. It's a great gun to train with.

I did the exact same thing with the little black plunger piece when I broke my TX22 down the first time. That sucker shot clear across my garage and I have the epoxy flooring that has all the little colored chips in it. Not even exaggerating, it took me over half a day to find it. I almost gave up and tried to order one from Taurus but luckily found it way in the corner underneath a yard tool holder! 😆

Good video, I appreciate your honesty when you hit roadblocks in disassembly for cleaning. Sometimes I have to watch a video while I am taking something apart or putting back together. I purchased mine yesterday for $295 after military discount. Wanted something to compliment my shadow 2 cz kadet 2 slide for 22 lr. I have fired probably 500 rounds of 40 grain thru the shadow 2 kadet kit with no malfunctions. I would have never bought a taurus, but after searching for a well reviewed 22 lr, I found a Taurus. Originally was trying to find a Keltec P17 or Ruger SR22. At the store yesterday they had a SR22, it was much smaller than the Taurus and close to $500. I am primarily going to use the Taurus for range fun and not for carry/ self protection, have many 45 acp and 9 mm to fill that role. Hoping my taurus is a good operating handgun and not a jam o matic.

I just spent 45 minutes on hold yesterday to get through to Taurus to get my replacement barrel sent out. But they're sending it for free so it all worked out.

Every Gun tear down has a Learning Curve and I recall a Few Years ago I Bought two Romanian 22Cal Bolt guns , I refinished the Stocks and Cleaned them Up, When I took the Bolts apart I could not get them to Go back together...No Video at the Time and No Manuals as these were Surplus Rifles, I spent a Long 3 hrs trying to figure out the problem, I accidently Cocked each bolt and Bam they went back together and Into the Receivers.... Man I felt stupid, but I did learn.... Now Does anybody want to tear Down a Ruger Mark II ??? LOL Cheers !!
