Tavares (also known as The Tavares Brothers) is an American R&B, funk and soul music group composed of five Cape Verdean-American brothers. Born and raised in Providence, Rhode Island, they would later move to New Bedford, Massachusetts.
Tavares is:
• Butch - Feliciano Tavares, born 18 May 1948.
• Chubby - Antone Lee Tavares, born 2 June 1945.
• Pooch - Arthur Lee Tavares, born 12 November 1943.
• Ralph - Ralph Viera Tavares, born 10 December 1942.
• Tiny - Perry Lee Tavares, born 24 October 1949.
1975 turned out to be their most successful year chartwise, with a Top 40 Pop album (In the City), the No. 25 hit "Remember What I Told You to Forget", and their biggest hit, the Top 10 Pop/No. 1 R&B smash "It Only Takes a Minute", which was later successfully covered by both Jonathan King and Take That, and sampled by Jennifer Lopez. They parlayed this success into a spot as an opening act for The Jackson 5. KC and The Sunshine Band was also on this tour. "Minute" was followed by a string of hits: "Heaven Must Be Missing an Angel" (1976), "Don't Take Away the Music" (1976), and "Whodunit" (1977, another No. 1 R&B hit).

My god these were great days to be a teenager and dancing to this at the local disco with not a care in the world and waiting for the weekend to come when you could try and get your favourite girl onto the dance floor to dance to this fantastic tune from the Tavares boys. Anyhow hello from us here in Scotland and long live the 1970’s.

You hold an audition until you find five that can sing the lead vocals. Then you dress them up in the same clothes so everyone would think they have been together like this for ages, while actually they may not even know each other, at first! I learnt this from Boney - M, so I was thinking how can this one man get all those 👧 👧👧👧? So then I read about it, that the whole thing was pre-selected... he didn't even know these girls, he just got hired or asked to perform with them!

Tavares was one of my most favourite bands growing up. This was my signature record though as I lived for music. I would listen to Tavares much more than the Jackson 5. They brought sunshine into my life and I thank them for all the joy they gave to us.

I loved Tavares. Such a handsome talented family. I remember those days so clearly. The 70s were pretty awful years - strikes, powercuts, etc. But we had music like this ! Wonderful times.

Older songs were made for playing for good . That´s why there´s a lot of people who like it . I was only 6 years old when Tavares used to sing this song . But i always say Older songs are the best ones ,that´s why i´m here .

It was 1976/77. I had traveled from Denver to spend a year with mijn Oma in Amsterdam/Osdorp. Every Saturday there was a dance at the community youth center on the corner of Tussen Meer and Baden Powellweg and I happily went with all of the neighborhood friends I had made. This was always playing and I learned to overcome my extreme shyness to dance with the many beautiful Dutch girls that were there ... and it was one of the best times of my life. This song always takes me back to that wonderful time.

Never take away the music! It's really all we've got in these crazy times to keep us sane. The 70's and 80's music was the best and will never be surpassed. Those of us that experienced those magnificent times on the dance floors and all those beautiful ladies who were just a joy to see in their beautiful clothing. Great energy and superb style. So glad to have been part of that era.

Man, I loved being in my late teens and early 20s during our DISCO Ara. We danced and drank all night just super fun with the babes and music. It is a shame this was the only time DISCO was here, but boy I am so glad I was here for it.
