Today, we disassemble my 2007 Audi R8 that I bought from Tyler Hoover of @HooviesGarage - and it's quite possibly the worst example I've ever seen. It has engine issues, gearbox issues, interior issues, cosmetic issues, and it leaks like crazy. So obviously we are going to make it the best Audi R8 ever...I hope.

Quite a few of the early R8 models suffered from a frame cracking issue. Sam Crac had the issue on an R8 he repaired. Audi do sell the parts for the repair. Definitely worth checking for as it's a major safety issue.

The P1 is nothing like the other builds guys. You can't rebuild a P1 overnight. You can find Audi and BMW and Volkswagon parts for everything else, you can't just find replacement parts for a P1. Especially one being converted to a one off unique car. You have to engineer and produce that shit, that takes time and money. A lot of both.

For the people asking for P1 update that never touched a wrench, understand that working on a car like that even if you’re specialist with deep pockets takes a long time, from ordering parts to research and every other bits, hats off to tavarish and the team for not going the simple route and even taking it a step further on that project. Also I enjoyed this episode and R8 is simply a modern timeless classic.

Lol, but he is going the simple route with the P1...remember he's removing all electronic drive. He's masquerading it as "increasing power", but in reality can't be bothered with the complicated electronics. The P1's electric motor makes up for reduced torque during gear shifts etc, it's unlikely the new "1600bhp" engine would actually beat it around a track.

@@oisinmoore8725 oh yes, the half second that it might get beat on the track. Tavarish is not a race car driver neither are you or me, he cares about driving, enjoying, rebuilding that car and that’s what’s possible for him to do. I don’t agree with you saying “masquerading” but if so, it is his car and he can do what he wants to it.
@mikebridges20
@mikebridges20 Ай бұрын
@@oisinmoore8725 Losing 400 lbs. is HUGE on a track. And since the P1 isn't AWD, like most high performance hybrids, you don't get the launch out of a corner, either. Equal drivers, I'm guessing either Freddy's P1 Evo beats it or they're about even.

You may need to widen the rear frame to accommodate the s-tronic dual clutch gearbox. The r-tronic is narrower between the rear frame rails. If you measure the frame between the two cars you will see if one is wider. Interested in seeing what you are going to do to. I have always wanted to do this myself but in Australia we don't get alot of crashed super cars. Keep up the good work.

You can definately lower those straps easily. Just pull the handle a tiny bit, and use your finger to release and hold open the lock bar down inside while you lower the strap with the handle. Then let go of the lock. And reset. You have to do it a few times but it works.

Tavarish needs to clarify that all the crap that was wrong with it from the "Previous owner" was not from Hoovie. Anyone who follows both of them knows this car and history and it should be made clear that Hoovie is not the one who did silly stuff like paint the brakes.

The car never ran for hoovie either.

...But if they follow both, they'll know the story from Hoovie right? But I get you though. In a situation where someone might have just enough info to come to the wrong conclusions, it might be a good idea to disclaim for Hoovies sake.

@@ettcha I watch both but Hoovie a lot less often because the cars he keeps buying aren't really interesting to me at all. I knew it was his R8 but I didnt see the video explaining the story of this car. I wouldn't think he would do this to a car but still, I'm one of the people watching both and not knowing the full story

What causes aluminum to weaken when stressed is called fatigue life. Steel has no fatigue life, meaning as it is stressed and not deformed it will never lose strength .

The amount of people commenting on no P1 update is crazy. The man is rebuilding a salt water flooded P1 for crying out loud lol. He's not made out of money or time. Making other videos for cash flow for the car makes sense. And if you are waiting on parts or other things, then why not work on other projects? Houston with the Bugatti, for example, has way more funding, and the work was done over a year, and he put videos out over time.

Positivity, enthusiasm, joy.. .. Tavarish and Mat Armstrong have both in equal measure. I reckon they were created by the same mechanic, but one has an American body and the other an English body. Funny thing is, they both run almost identically.. .. perhaps something to do with the ICU installed

I'm so glad to see you working on this car. A audi r8 was the first car that really got me in to wanting a supercar. And to hear that your giving it away get me really hyped for this build and can't wait to see it finished. Are you going to do a reveal video with the person that wins the car?

10:38 For stuck nuts or bolts in sockets, either slightly put it back on the stud or in the threaded hole SLOWLY and wiggle the gun off, or an easier solution. You can take the socket off, put it on the ground and tap it with a hammer. The vibrations will knock the stuck nut or bolt out pretty quick 👍 👍

Hey the 08-10 r8’s have a weak frame on the front end, you can buy the support brackets from Audi for like $50 and do a little preventative maintenance. I was planning to do that to my R8 but uhhh i sorta crashed it before i could 🤷‍♂️
