It's auction week, and it's always hard on our staff seeing the abuse and neglect of so many horses, but Tawnee had an exceptionally hard week. You won't only cry along with Tawnee, but you will laugh at the crazy antics of the Horse Plus staff. This episode is a true emotional roller coaster!

I hope that people realize that the last act of kindness IS RESCUING. Rescuing from a horrible fate of suffering in a trailer and a feed lot. That last few weeks of a slaughter bound horse is the worst fate imaginable. The fact that y'all paid $250 for him just to have to put him down tells me all I need to know about your organization. You are truly in it for the horses. Thank you for all you do.

At 71 yrs old, I’ve had to let go of several beloved dogs thru the years.. it has never been a decision made easily. But deemed necessary with vet advice. I can’t imagine my life without animals. I currently have an 8 yr old German Shepard and a 12 yr old husky rescue.. I mark their birthdays with sadness. We have them for such a short time. I have pics of all of my companions on my fridge. They are family. My son pointed out that I don’t have pics of my 2 children on there, but I feel that they are my children. I would actually bankrupt myself to take proper care of them. To see the condition of some of these horses makes me so angry. They are living creatures that deserve so much more from the humans that have dominion over them. Thank you for ALL that you do for them.

I love Dr. Lydia. She is so gentle with the horses, talking to them as she checks them out. And her excitement at the pregnancy was just giddy. But the request for warm water for enemas (for Jenna to do) was the topper. She just loved to egg Jenna on. Sometimes it takes a bit of joking to be able to handle all the pain and misery you see in the rescue world. I'm glad to see HPHS can still laugh and have some fun.

@agfillion1 they've done it b4 with an IV in the main artery in his neck so that's what confused me. I do apologize for that. I just thought they(HSH) only used the vein to quickly hydrate a really sick or other animal that are extremely dehydrated. Again, I apologize, sweetheart! 😔

m a retired wildlife rehabber = i have actually been shot at for trying to save a momma raccoon and her babies.The guy missed and then the gun didnt fire. He turned around and punched me. What he didnt realize is this here woman is also a trained boxer and I will hit back! In the end Momma and all 4 kits went with me and are now living a free life in a safe forest! I understand what you feel more then you realize, Tawnee. Your words and courage to come out and say what happened to you is enough to give others that have been assulted and abused the strength to speak out! Men too! Men can be abused just as bad as women! Nobody deserves it- nobody! Keep your head held high! You have a way better spirit and a beautiful supportive groups of great folks around you!! @@lisacheney7904 I suspect it was a set up for one of two reasons. 1. He had taken out insurance on that horse. The corrective shoeing and the money he mentioned spending were also setting up his insurance claim that the horse was lame. He was going to have Horse Plus euthanize the horse for free and then use their euthanasia report to file his insurance claim. But it didn't work, he didn't get his money, so he became enraged. 2. He sent two sick horses as a cover with one healthy horse, got free euthasia, but was hoping Horse Plus would also put down the healthy horse so they could use that to discredit HPHS for killing horses unnecessarily. But it didn't work so he became enraged. Or 3. All of the above. It was a set up in my opinion. This guy was trying to commit fraud and drag Horse Plus into it, and became enraged when his plan failed.

@suzannejohnson9109

Sadly there is very little done and once in pipeline they get lost. More needs to be done but they are called "dump" auctions for a reason. These aren't auctions of finely bred, show animals but of used up, lame, damaged, surplus animals. Very sad, very sick and very wrong and very little regulated. Some may actually be well bred and former show animals but are dumped due to age, lameness, and to get the last dime out of them.
@itsadogslife8948
@itsadogslife8948 Жыл бұрын
Here in New Zealand, they would never get to auction as we have laws to say horses are sentient beings (and other livestock) so treating them like that would get you in serious trouble. The auctions are policed by the SPCA and other organizations. We have slaughterhouses (not for human consumption) but they also are monitored.
@sherryburrows2252
@sherryburrows2252 Жыл бұрын
@@suzannejohnson9109 Technically, horse slaughter for human consumption is now illegal in the US. However, there are lots of catches. They wan be sold to be shipped to slaughter in Canada and Mexico, with Mexico especially being horrific deaths. The people that just want to get the last dime out of these poor old used-up horses don't care about them--they just want to get rid of them without having to pay a vat to put them down or dig a hole to bury them. It all comes down to money. I bless these compassionate people who outbid the killers just to give an old animal a decent death. Those bought at these kill auctions are shipped thousands of miles on painful legs, taken to slaughterhouses set up for cattle, not horses, and run through the kill line so fast that the workers are always in danger as well as the horses. Obviously, since what they're doing isn't legal in the first place, nobody is worrying about the horror that poor animals are suffering. After all, neither are the workers, and in Mexico they have no such thing as OSHA or workers compensation. If they get injured or killed, they're just shit out of luck. Any factory-farming is geared toward making the highest profit possible, whatever is being farmed, but animal slaughter to make pet food is by far the worst on workers and animals both.

Well and just surreal that it became physical. It's one thing to run your mouth at someone mindlessly but to make it physical, even if the recording was triggering him and he was aiming for the phone without a thought to her...just still surreal that it could come to that. Particularly awful at a church event where he knew he would find her, that's pre-meditated and dangerous. That should not be ignored, the minister/pastor himself should even address that, not just the law. Ppl want to be safe in their community. The guy needs some lessons in how to behave like a proper Christian and that guy doesn't qualify...not without some serious counseling and anger management. Even then, couldn't be trusted.

You make us all stronger. Thank you. I am in the process of surrendering my beautiful Appys. Mom is blind and her 7 yr seeing eye horse to Horses without Humans rescue in South Fl. My husband and I are both elderly with health issues and it has become so hard to give them the care they need. I have watched your KZfaq channel and cried when I've seen bad outcomes but you have given me the strength to make this choice while my horses are healthy. To give them away to unqualified people and take the chance that could end up in the slaughter pipeline is more than I can bear. To pass and have one of my family members make the wrong choice is not something I am willing to take a chance on. So about a year ago I reached out to Horses Without Humans and after waiting for space in their facility the vet came last week to test for Coggins and now time comes to say goodbye to Sugar and Rella. Thank you for giving me the strength to do the right thing. And God bless Janet with Horses Without Humans in South Florida giving them the opportunity to find love in the hands of someone with sweet pastures for many years to come. XO Carol Brown

As a licensed psychologist , I couldn't be more proud of Tawnee for speaking out against not only verbal assault but also physical assault! You stood up for Apache when they would not! Thank God you got he and the 2 others away from them. I fear that they have other animals in their care! You are such a powerful and positive voice for animals. And no one can take that away from you! You know your TRUTH! Those of us who have been watching horse plus for months or years see every video how kind you are to the horses! I see that you make the very important kind and respectful decision to help horses out of their bodies when they ĥave a grave prognosis. I wish the owners were kind enough to allow animals in such condition to die with their owners on their properties, but failing to do so means that somebody needs to step up and help these animals. I could EASILY spend $250 to purchase a horse who was suffering and give him the gift of the last act of kindness. Your doing that tells me everything I need to know about you! I also recognize that you have enough life experience to know that there are a lot of troubled people out there . For whatever reason, they seem to want to put the light out of beautiful people who are doing some of the most challenging and important work there is. You help those who are most vulnerable and without a voice. The world would be a much darker place without you! Not to mention how many horses would go on to be slaughtered instead of being plucked from being at the wrong place at the wrong time. And as I have mentioned, those horses who desperately need to be seen and helped rather than shipped on to the next auction or stepped on in the next transport trailer until they hit the final destination of slaughter. Where they simply bleed out. So you go do you Tawnee! And you set the record straight when people misrepresent you or your organization. And as I think you also see... there are many of us who see your heart, your work, your passion, and all of the goodness that you do and represent! I am honored to get to share the planet with people like you and jason!

I love Dr Lydia. She's so great. So kind, so thorough. The whole chicken thing was hilarious. It's so important to find the time to laugh when you something that can be so sad and hard at times. My heart is absolutely breaking to see a horse in the auction with a broken leg. Poor poor baby. How long was he/she in this condition. How could anyone do that?? I will never understand it, ever.

Tawnie, you are the Elvis of horse rescue! What you do is amazing! You have so much heart. To see someone treat you with anything other than respect really boggles my mind. I've always loved horses and what you do with those poor victims of neglect and abuse has surely earned you your wings! You really are a hero...really!!🐎🐎

Tawny you are such a kind and patient person, being both verbally and physically assaulted for doing the right thing is insane. The fact that you remained kind and level headed makes you a much better person than most, especially myself. I don’t think I could have held myself as well as you have. Keep doing what you’re doing, it’s making such a difference to people and animals globally. You’ve reached me all the way up in Scotland and I see comments from New Zealand, that’s both ends of the earth effected by YOU and YOUR team

As always, another fantastic episode. I just love Dr Lydia, her empathy and sense of humour is amazing. She’s a natural on the telly too. Please hang on to her because she’d be so missed! All of you guys do such an awesome job, every single one of you, you’re angels. This was such a sad intake this month, I t shows just what these so called owners are made of, absolute cowards that they don’t do right by their animals, instead trying to make money out of their suffering. I really wish there was a law against it and they could be charged with animal brutality, because that’s what it is. I love you guys for stepping in where many owners don’t and for opening your hearts and doors to these beautiful creatures. You’re beautiful souls and I love you , respect you, so much. 🙏🏻🌻🌻🌻

Tawnee, thank you for sharing your journey with us. I know that there are many people out here in your audience who believe in you, and truly believe that the assault on you was not something that you asked for or deserved. No, you are not guilty. Yes, you handled it perfectly. Keep up the good fight for the horses you save, and remember those of us who understand the pain you go through just watching these wounded souls you rescue. It's taxing. It's hard. But for the love of these animals, you are doing the job of an angel. Thank you and all of Horse Plus.

Youur organization does NOT make decision for a last act of kindness without a need for it. That iscwhy I like your channel. You have passed this caring to the shelters that you sponser. Each act of kindness hurts you, we can see that you put what is best for each horse first. Thank you for what you do to help animals. Sorry you had to experience being assaulted. Prayers for healing and getting through this difficult time. God Bless and Thank you for making a difference in so many horses lives. Even those that need the last act of kindness, they know peace not fear in their last moments. You and your staff and the mentoring ARE making a difference for better treatment for animals.

Tawnee, I have heard and proven it true that people who denigrate others will used abusive terms which apply to themselves. A thief will call you a thief act, so you have a character reference straight out of an unpleasant persons own mouth.

A thief will call you a thief , because he/she Is projecting what is within them into you, for this reason,& and for the assault on Tawnee because it was not euthanized ( Veterinarian’s decision) makes me wonder even More, if this horse was stolen,& those people who surrendered it wanted evidence destroyed ? The male specie who physically attacked Tawnee,& called her evil 👿 certainly knows what evil 👹is, & proved it by “ hitting a woman”! He not only needs to be “ looked about “, he needs TO BE WATCHED CLOSELY AT ALL TIMES! Thankfully, charges have been filed against the 👹❗️

You guys are doing amazing work, Tawnee. I'm so sorry that those owners chose to be this way and take it as far as assault. Seeing this I'm really glad you guys were as careful as you were about Apache's adoption process. I hope old and new owners have not and will not cross paths.
