i just want to cry when I hear this guitar play. it is so soothing, deep yet bright, but not harsh. You make her sing her melody as if she is just breathing. awesome job.

I commented on this video 2 years ago after having bought the 12e (under the name "LindyLoulie"), and now I am watching/listening to it again after having bought the 10e. I am now in love with the 10e too! So now I will contribute a followup to my original comments. I see that there are 27 thumbs-down for this video. I can't understand why anyone could possibly dislike it. This is still simply the very best demo of these two Taylor Academy model guitars on KZfaq! It demonstrates the instruments both unplugged and plugged-in. It gives the listener a great idea as to what the tonal capabilities of these instruments are. The playing is not just someone hammering away at chord changes which is so often the case with so-called "reviews" of guitars. The recording levels are perfect, both mic'd and plugged-in. This video gives the listener a good preview of what a finger stylist could do with these guitars -- which is the style in which I play. For what it's worth, I have found that the 10e gives me a fuller sound with more low end as compared with the 12e. I think that has to do with the body shape and size. Dreadnoughts naturally by design produce more low end. Also, for some reason the action on the 10e is lower and more comfortable than the 12e as well. This is probably a result of a different setup. I imagine the 12e could be set up similarly. These guitars, although aimed at the beginner, are very capable of providing the gigging musician a wonderful instrument to perform with at a price which won't empty the wallet. They are well-made, and to me the simplicity of their design creates a "beauty" all their own. It is true that sometimes less is more. For perspective -- I own two Martins -- a D-41 Reimagined, and a D-45 Custom Shop piece -- and I thoroughly enjoy playing the reduced-size Taylor 10e just as much as I do the Martins. The diminutive size of the Taylor is more comfortable to play, and the tone is very satisfying. Although I bought these Taylors to use as "couch guitars," I would have no problem gigging with them -- especially in situations where the weather conditions are such that I wouldn't want my expensive instruments to be exposed to the elements. Bottom line: These are NOT just beginners' guitars.

wow.. nice ... glade you wrote this after two years ... which help people who really interested of buying one to decide what to buy.. I initially I thought buying 12e, after this definite 10e, or ended buying both.......:P and also this was the best demonstration on you tube I have seen for the Taylor Academy series guitars.. hope he do the 12N-e version also....

Thanks for your upload really helpful. Is one of the guitars easier to play for a beginner? I have pretty long fingers. If I understand you right the 10e has more bass then the 12e because a lot of reviews say it opposite? Appreciate your reaction!
@lindyloulie80
@lindyloulie80 3 жыл бұрын
@@RV-rv9nv The 10e, having the dreadnought body, produces fuller low end than the 12e. In general dreadnoughts, by design, produce more low end (bass) response. As such they can also sometimes have a less-even response across the strings. I found that this Taylor 10e is, indeed, fairly even across the strings. Not sure why, but perhaps this is because the overall body size of the 10e is not as large as a full-sized dreadnought such as the Martin D-28.
@lindyloulie80
@lindyloulie80 3 жыл бұрын
@@RV-rv9nv I forgot to reply about your long fingers...the reduced scale length and narrower fretboard design could leave your long fingers feeling "cramped" and you might have a difficult time getting good note separation due to fingers touching (muting) open strings adjacent to the ones you are fretting. The best thing is for you to do is get your hands on one to try before you buy.

Would love to hear you demo the A12e-N. This is the very best demo of the Taylor Academy 10e and 12e on the internet! Beautiful! Yours is the only demo that does these great guitars justice. I absolutely LOVE the A12e! I spotted it at Guitar Center, and to satisfy my curiosity I picked it up and first tried it unplugged. I was blown away! Intonation, sustain forever, depth, balance across the strings, easy playability -- fantastic! Next I plugged into a Fishman LoudBox Mini. That did it! I own several high-end guitars, yet I am totally addicted to this little beauty. Mine sounds just like the one in this demo. Phenomenal! Oh, and BTW, mine has the most beautiful highly figured "bear claw" spruce top. It is gorgeous! To those of you looking for demos of these Taylor Academy guitars, look no further. This demo says it all.

Done very nicely. Smooth and flawless. If I could play my own guitar half as well, I would be delighted. I like the combination of good Fingerstyle mixed with flat picking technique. The mellow sound and the increase in tempo work together. Thanks for sharing.

@musicmason
@musicmason 7 жыл бұрын
Michael McBride These do sound great and play pretty well with a factory set up. However, the longevity and stability of the Academy series is my only concern. Where the 100 series and up utilize traditional construction techniques (i.e. back braces, kerfing, etc...) the Academy series does not. Time will only tell, but I will say that the Academy series sound great, and the price is lower than the sound quality and playability would suggest . Not an heirloom guitar, but at this price, one would be foolish to expect otherwise.

Taylor doesn't use back bracing on any of their laminate backs because its sturdier than solid wood and the bracing just unnecessarily restricts the resonance of the guitar. I think that's where Taylor stands out from Gibson/Martin ect, they're not afraid of trying new things to offer the best all round value possible.
