That Dove sounds just so classic and cool. It can take you so many different directions. Absolutely love them. The Taylor sounded very warm and clear. I think it will get better with age, and like the AD line. But if I had to chose one, for me the Dove gives me chills. Just such a fine sound. Thank you

It’s not a competition, just two fine sounding guitars. As a Taylor maple owner (614ce BE), what I absolutely dig are the gorgeous midrange harmonies, jazzy and clear. Both the Dove and the American Dream fit the bill. For country and folk, I’d probably choose the Dove. Anything with four and five part 7th chords, the Taylor would shine.

I LOVE MAPLE.- My first Taylor 10 years ago was a 2000 610ce curly maple ltd it was absolutely stunning and has been the only guitar that I have owned (over 100 different models and makes in my 50 years of playing) that when I first played it my wife came into the room and I kid you not said: "wow, that guitar sounds beautiful". I wish I had never sold it - but times were tough a couple years later and you gotta do what you gotta do. I have owned several maple back and side guitars but no maple tops as the ones I tried were just too dead. I am loving the sound of this guitar and am thinking how I can justify getting one as the sound is exactly what I am looking for - the compression of Mahogany with the overtones of Maple. (I have a 522ce 12fret that is my go-to and all-around now. my wife likes the sound of this one also, but commented after I had played it the first time, "it's nice, but not like your first Taylor:)

The square shoulder vs sloped shoulder and wider bout on the Dove provides the greatest distinction in sound between the two for me. Square shoulder sounds a lot bolder. I love the way the Taylor sounds and looks, though. I almost bought one a few weeks back but ended up going with the all mahogany AD27e.

Unpopular opinion : I love brand new maple folk guitars. All I care is that they properly fret and check the guitar, which only top brands made in USA actually do. The Dove wins hands down imo. Thx for the review

The dove sounded more open and balanced to my ears. Taylor sounded tighter with less bass and more midrange. Do you guys have any idea why epiphone didn’t do a dove model in the inspired by Gibson line? I’d think it would do tremendously well.

My first acoustic guitar back in the 60s was a Dove. This really brings back fond memories! I was surprised by the Taylor's warmth and clarity. The Blues sounded really nice on the Taylor but the Dove had a definition of tone and brightness that really projected well. Both excellent guitars...to me though it was like a baby grand Gibson next to a Taylor spinnet piano. I have to confess to being a Gibson guy all the way. I like them even better than Martins!

Ok folks The Taylor AD27E flame top is not played in yet and the Dove is aged. Maple will sound different in 5-8 years if played. My Taylor 614ce aged nicely. With some age and playing, that Taylor will sound much different. Think old Maple fiddle compared to a new one. Thanks for the comparison Chris and Cooper.

I prefer the sound of a spruce top. I am deeply impressed with Taylor's work on all maple guitars. There is a video of an older, all-maple, x-braced Taylor instrument and it sounds fantastic somewhere on KZfaq. I prefer the sound of the Gibson and am impressed with the Taylor. If I was purchasing one of these two, I'd purchase the Gibson. Oh, and my back and sides preferences are: 1) Rosewood, 2) Maple, 3) Mahogany, 4) Cocobolo and, 5) Walnut.

The Taylor sounds nice! But, both serve very different purposes. You can actually hear how much more resonate the Gibson is through the mic but, that could just be the big dread vs the shrunk down slope of the American dream. I say Taylor wins for sheer ingenuity and Gibson for the big timeless classic sound. I would like to hear this Taylor against some more modern maple guitars like a furch jumbo or something! But IMO I’d like to hear this Taylor with the old school performance Andirondack bracing. I’m really not a fan of V class, it makes them sound a bit nasally and muted IMO I’d still buy one if i had the opportunity!

Well it'd be nice to know what strings you had on the Taylor? I bought one and I put phosphor bronze on it It sounded a whole lot different still had the high end but it was a little richer sounding I'm not sure but I think you probably have phosphora bronze on that Gibson It's a great guitar for sure but to be fair they have to have the same strings.

The first two licks for each guitar: Flametop-Play in case of despondency. Dove-Play in case of happiness. Flametop-Suicide Songs. Dove-"It's a new day" songs. Obviously I'm overstating. Either could be used for either type of song. But, there, I said it. LOL

Have an AD27 Flametop and think it is the best guitar I have ever played. It just is the most even, orchestral, full sounding six string. It favors nothing in particular and blends everything into this perfect harmony. It's like the barbershop quartets of guitars. The sum is better than the parts, but the parts have to be good to make that happen. I am predominantly a strummer and this is the one.

To my humble opinion Maple is not so great as a top wood, hence the Dove with the Spruce top is so much better sounding, but maybe it's like many other commentators mentioned - also the build quality in this case, given the Dove is a high grade model compared to the AD27e. In any event, as usual, your reviews are a pleasure by all means. Thanks for making this channel.

Agree the Dove wins. I think the Taylor is more of a unique , perhaps quirky, design. The 611 GT (spruce/ maple) might be a better choice for long term satisfaction at a lower price than the Dove, although that appears to be a LTD edition.

I know that this is mostly a guitar channel and i just discovered this channel today but i was wondering what kind of acoustic basses you would recommend for beginners?
@TheSilence1
@TheSilence1 2 жыл бұрын
Acoustic bass guitars usually don't sound very good and produce little volume. There are some that do sound good - like the ones with carbon fiber bodies and the short-scale ones. The carbon fiber ones are expensive, so that's probably not what a beginner should get. The short-scale ones sound good (despite being smaller) for one or two reasons. The first reason has to do with the physics of scale length and how short-scale guitars produce a warmer sound. The second reason has to do with the elastic strings they sometimes use instead of the metal strings that are usually used.

Let's see... Maple: Taylor 612 12-fret, Ric 360/12, Ric 660, Ric 5002v58, Ric 4003FL, '91 Strat Plus with a maple body, PRS Hollowbody II, NS NXT Electric Upright Bass, Meisel 7300 Viola. Maple does tend to by punchy and immediate. I would say rosewood is more treble-heavy. If you're used to mahogany though, maple can hit you pretty hard.
