@@CannonMusic05 Baby Taylor is lovely. Such a sweet little thing. I'm able bodied, playing (noodling) on the couch for 30 years and it's always the baby I reach for. If you want to really treat them, go for the Koa version.

I believe the primary difference is the tone. Those who like a lot of high pitch treble will lean toward the big baby. If you like a deep woody tone, you will reach for the mini.

I ended up with the Big Baby. I really liked having the smaller sized dread. I don't use it as a travel, just a primary guitar when I want a little more bass, as I can't play a full sized one. (Arms too short, chest in the way, just uncomfortable) MY other guitars are mostly folk sized and parlor sized. So I have plenty of guitars with a pronounced mid range. I really liked the way the Big Baby felt and sounded more than the GS mini. I might be the only one!

There is just something magical about the Big Baby, but they don't treat it that way. But it has huge sound, making the GS MINI feel less bass capable or projecting. But I love the new RW GS MINI look. I wish they had a Big Baby with a few more tweaks.

sussezq I have a big baby, and I love the strong/bright sound, but I still think it's a little big for me. (I have tiny hands.) I steal my gf's Martin lxm all the time and I love the size, but like the Taylor sound. Didn't care for the mini in this video. My question is, did you happen to try out the baby while you were looking at the others? If so, thoughts on it?

Em Capoun I love the Taylor baby and wanted one but ended up getting a yamaha jr2 as my travel/car guitar. I just didn't want to worry about it. Leave it in the car. I have really small hands and mostly own folk sized guitars but really wanted the bass-y sound of a dread. Uncomfortable with a full size...appreciate the 15/16 sized body of the big baby ...also the full scale length which makes me stretch.

Goes to show that quality never ages as I am here in November of 2021 trying to get a feel-so to speak-for the differences between these three. Also noteworthy, this man makes some of the best comparison videos for people shopping or pre-shopping online. I feel like I can say this pretty bias free as I've never stepped in to an Alamo Music Center shop (for no other reason than living in New England)--and sadly, I do not yet own a Taylor or a Martin, brands that AMC are certified retailers for. Hopefully both of those conditions will change soon. But I've watched a lot of shootouts and keep coming back to see what this man has to say on the matter which has universally been --reviews of the facts and essentials, a fair audio comparison demonstrating fingerstyle and strumming, as well as acoustic or plugged in using the same riffs and or audio, and if any subjective conparision is offered it is presented as such. And now I've written a book on the subject....good lord. If anyone (apologies) made thru to here....would love to know if anyone has purchased one of the three Taylors being compared for a person with a good ammount of playing experience but who has some more recent physical disabilities with thier hands. In my case, my octogenarian father who taught me my first chords and fingerstyle basics a la freight train when I was 16 yrs old--now has a pretty evident tremmor and weakenss to his hands from parkinsons. He can just barely get his favorite blues articulated on an old gibson classical with nylon strings and often finds that frustrating when he really needs to bar a chord He has good sized hands for a moderately tall man, the muscles are just not obeying command anymore. If I heard or understand correctly--the baby feels the most "slack", which would make it a contender--if it is not so small that a moderately tall man with normal (large gloves-size is allI know) size hands would find that fretboard comfortable. Any opinions welcome. Sorry for the length. And thanks to AMC, 6 years later, for great videos like these that are still helpful.

Thanks for addressing one big question I always have on these comparisons. Strings. They can and do make a difference and I like the Baby Taylor for its versitality, ease of playing and big sound for a smaller guitar. Its the one that stays next to the couch or gets dragged from room to room or taken places first over my full size guitars.

Been playing for over 15 years. To my ears the GS mini sounds more crisp to me. The Big Baby wins on 1 point, being the full sized neck. Which in reality, for me at least, I don't usually need it. A friend of mine just picked up a GS mini and I am truly blown away by the sound it's producing from such a small body. I've got a 314ce and it kept up beautifully. If you closed your eyes and listened to both guitars it's unbelievable how similar they sound in terms of volume and power. As for the size of the body, I think that's really all preference, I've now come to enjoy larger dreadnought bodies, but before, much preferred a smaller shape when I was still growing from beginner to intermediate. My friend is just starting out, and I think in a situation like his, you'll be much happier with the GS mini. Super comfortable to play on the couch if you're vibing out watching tutorial videos, I can see it being extremely handy to carry around for the future cottage and camping trips, and overall just a lot easier to play with compared to my fatty 314ce. I think this is very important because with ease of play and convenience comes more desire and more time you're going to put into playing it. Just my 2 cents

9 month ago i was watching this video and got my big baby, now i ended up with a 714ce. look what have you done to me Chris. but to be honest, big baby is really worth the money(i replaced the nut and saddle with bone), 714 rings like a bell, but it is not 6 times better than big baby.

Wanted a Taylor for a long time. Last guitar purchased was a Martin DX (Johnny cash) and I love it. However, I was just given an old Big Baby (made in USA) as a gift from a friend. Sounds nice, but I think my Martin Mini (3/4, Koa wood) sounds better (fuller). But I know the strings on this old Big Baby are very light and old. So - hoping the 12s I just ordered will put some body back into the sound. Nice action though. Beautiful body and nice size.

Thank~you so much for offering the best review I've seen yet on Taylor guitars. I now know that my first guitar will be the big baby, I initially was considering the Koa a baby model. The reviews have also helped in my decision making as well as listening too them. I have tried them out in person, very tough decision since Taylor doesn't make a bad guitar, all ace in my book.

Recently bought the Baby Taylor, plays pretty well for the size and price. Don’t really play guitar much nowadays so I wanted something simple to fiddle on every now and then. Although, I was at Guitar Center the other day and played a Big Baby and holy shit the power and brightness was much cleaner obviously the size difference and price difference are the fine lines. Kinda wish I bought that one instead but maybe later this year depending on how committed I am.

I first watched this review about 6 months ago, whilst deciding on my first Taylor guitar. I already had an old cheaper dreadnought so wanted something a bit smaller. This review narrowed me down to the Big Baby or GS Mini. Off I went to a guitar shop and tried a few different GS MIni's and a Big Baby, none of them grabbed me and then I spotted a 114e which I fell in love with so bought that instead. A couple of months later a secondhand Baby Taylor appeared on Marketplace which I couldn't turn down, I now play that Baby Taylor more than any other of my guitars as it so comfortable to play, the small size is perfect and great for playing at home or throwing in the car when travel is allowed again. Now I have a Baby and a 114, not sure I can see a need for a GS Mini or Big Baby, which is strange as they are what I originally wanted.

At 14:30 the finger-bluesy section sounds better on the Baby (to my ears) than the same performed on the Big Baby, which I think is generally true of fingerpicked blues-that is, that it sounds better on a smaller, parlor-size guitar. Martin had a 00016 that was great for that. I'd be tempted to say if you're more finger-style blues, the Baby is better

I am a senior in high school now, and am going to enlist in the Marine Corps as soon as I turn 18, and want to buy a guitar to take around the world with me, so I was originally thinking Baby Taylor mahogany top, then I listened to the Little Martin and considered that, and now I'm mostly thinking BT2 or Big Baby. bought a 110ce for almost a month now. i cant get off with her since. working in the office made me miss the guitar so much. need one small guitar in my car just for the mindset that everywhere i go, i can play anywhere for a taylor quality. just got out from my previous store they offered $282 for baby and $234 for baby taylorswift version (malaysian currency converted) . need to add around $50 to remove the 'taylorswift' for same size. if you want a small guitar, just think you need if for your needs. yes you can get big baby and gsmini for better sound but back to the basic, they compromised the size. everything will add some price tags for better specs. thanks for reading im going to get the bbt for the next couple of month lol

I need a travel-size guitar, so after playing a few locally, I bought a "Baby" with the pickup (BT-301e) that should arrive in a couple of days. Hindsight moment: should've kept the GS-Mini! i'm not 100% sure, but i think it's an open voicing of an Esus2 chord! anyways, when you're playing chords in E major/C# minor higher up the neck, where you'd usually use barre chords, you can remove your index finger from the neck and let the open low E, B and high E strings ring out for every chord. it's a beautiful sound - a nice way to spice up your guitar playing:)

is the 314 basically the same as a GS mini, but with more high end finishes, but the same size?

Why not put which one is which on the screen? Except for the Big Baby, I didn’t know which of the other 2 were the mini or GS. Thanks…

Hi. You might know. I bought the Taylor Big Baby Acoustic/Electric. 2 questions. What do you think about this guitar and also it says it’s slightly smaller than a full size acoustic. What exactly is smaller. Thank you.

I’ve owned both the gs mini and big baby. I like the big baby more because it’s easier to play, and I can get a cleaner sound. The gs mini is a great guitar too and smaller for travel. The latest big baby is beautiful with the layered walnut and a maple neck. I like the contrast between the walnut and maple.

Which would you recommend? Taylor Big Babby or Martin Dreadnought Jr?
@Ezemdi
@Ezemdi 5 ай бұрын
I have both and right now I’m I king the dreadnought jr a little more. For me the Martin is a bit easier to play In my humble opinion, the Martin gives you the Martin sound with a bit more higher end than normal for a Martin guitar. That being said I’ve only had the big baby for a week. Still getting use to it.

Although the big baby has a very nice sound they have just gotten to expensive. There’s entry level guitars now that sound just as good for have the price, Sigma, Orangewood, Antonio Giuliani, etc.

I just got home with a brand new 114 ce and a BT1 baby. Holy cow these guitars sound even more amazing in person. I ended up getting the baby for $99 through a Sweetwater BOGO deal that my local guitar shop honored. The way you play, the style, it's amazing. How can I figure out where to find lessons for that style online? What's it called?

BBT and GS Mini are both fantastic guitars. BBT packs a slightly bigger punch due to its bigger size but it’s also great for travel since it’s not that big. GS Mini is a little more responsive and sounds cleaner in person imo. Personally I’d go with the GS Mini but BBT is still a great guitar and cheaper.

Just today I was looking and playing a koa baby. Personally I love the tone - very present and balanced - and the woodgrain was an absolute work of art. But those 2 Philips head screws through the neck! Cheesy was my exact thought. If it wasn't for those screws I would have bought it today. I still might. I don't know. I think those screws are going to bug me.
