Another detail I adore is the line "Sometimes you just don't know the answer till someone's on their knees and asks you." It's interesting cause when you ask someone to marry you, you get down on just _one_ knee, not "knees". Here, however, he not only got down on one knee to propose, he went down on both of them - as in begging. Representing his helplessness and desperation, imploring her to stay. He's on his knees in front of her.

“one for the money, two for the show i never was ready so i watched you go” The phrase “one for the money, two for the show” is part of a rhyme. The full rhyme goes “one for the money, two for the show, three to get ready and four to go” and it basically means ‘ready, set, go’. The narrator didn't continue saying the full rhyme after saying the second verse because they weren't ready to go all the way to marriage amd that's why they said “i never was ready so i watched you go”

"Your Midas touch on the chevy door" Midas is from Greek mythology whom anything he touch turns to gold. So he touched the car and it turned to gold. But can a car go somewhere with gold tires? No. So even tough their relationship was beautiful and golden and shiny, it wasn't moving forward What a genius.

Has anyone noticed “One for the money, two for the show” based on children’s rhyme? “One for the money Two for the show Three to GET READY And four to GO” Taylor Swift - Champagne Problems “One for the money Two for the show I NEVER was READY So I watch you GO” She turned a children’s fun rhyme into an emotionally sad lyrics. The saddest part is when she says “you won’t remember all my champagne problems” at the end. The guy will eventually move on and resent the narrator whom he proposed to, not remembering what she went through but he will never forget how she hurt him. And the lyric implies that she will love him forever, while by the time she is ready he has moved on…

taylor swift wrote this song referring to someone she knows who is funny but fckd in the head,, she got that inspiration from this person's personality ive read a post before one of her friend ig... although this song and the rest of the songs on folklore are base on fiction but this one is the masterpiece the lyrics just flow like a river beautifully at the same time it's the most sad song on the album

then who is the person @kelie? folklore is fiction, but i kind of agree that still we don't know if all the stories are fiction we could say mix of a fiction and real characters.. we don't know.. as youve mentioned Taylor wrote this song to someone she knows who is "funny, fcked in the head" soTaylor Swift created a sad song story to that person?, well that is why Taylor is a queen of storytelling her imagination is out of this world but this song its like a tragic movie a girl rejected the guy's proposal sad sad story ... A long time ago I left my high school boyfriend behind on a different continent to start a new life in America. I went back last year for our 30th HS reunion, and when this song played at one of the parties, we just stared at one another across the room for 4 minutes. No words were needed. Fortunately we are both happily married with children now, and friends with each other too, but boy did this masterpiece bring back all those memories and emotions of young, intense love that never had its happy ending. Taylor Swift, such a poet and a skilled storyteller!

@@sillygirl5470 i’ll gladly explain it from my pov! so tapestry is a form of textile art, and in this song, i personally think that it’s used as a metaphor (for his heart, perhaps). taylor breaks his heart (shreds his tapestry). but she believes he’ll find someone who’ll love him wholeheartedly and will ‘patch up his tapestry’ (fix his heart) that taylor shreds (break). but it can be a metaphor for something else, though😂 the point is, tapestry is a form of art. it’s something beautiful and valuable. and in this case, taylor ruins it. and she hopes the man will find someone who’ll patch it up and make it beautiful again.

"Champagne Problems" is a song about how a person is preparing to propose to their lover. The person has already informed their family and their friends, who are all ready to celebrate and applaud once the engagement was done. The person is using their mother's ring to propose. The person even prepared what to say when they would propose. But before they could say anything, the lover ran away, because the lover thought that they weren't enough for the person. The lover couldn't give a proper reason as to why they can't marry the person. The lover says that they didn't know what to answer until the person went down on their knees. Everyone says the lover would have made a lovely bride, but it's a shame that they're already confused and conflicted on their own. Because the lover turned him down, the person booked a night train to get out of the place, so they could sit there all alone while hurting. The lover says one day that the person will find someone else who will say yes to them. Someday their friends group ( they are not sure they'll ever be able to say "our friends" again, because they won't be able to face the person or any of their friends) will get over the initial shock and then maybe one day they'll deck the halls again for when the person feels ready and finds someone to propose to again who will say yes for sure. This problem, that the lover broke the person's heart might not be a nationwide issue or that big of a deal to most people, because soon everyone will move on and forget all about it. The person and lover included. But at the moment, it does seem like a big problem. Taylor is a literary genius♥

One of our last words before saying goodnight and putting an end to us, he told me to listen to champagne problems. Now that he is sleeping, I finally listened to this song and got to know his side of our break-up more and more. He knows that breaking-up would be the best for both of us. I know that he still has feelings for me and will want the best for me. This song describes the whole scene. You can dream a whole movie in your mind. And that's the best part of it. Her lyrics are so describing and it makes the listener get lost in the imagination. The bridge is so deep. Every lyric has a deep meaning. Starting from "midas touch" to "november flush and your flannel cure" to "dorm was once a madhouse" to "evergreen our grp of friends don't think we'll say that word again" to "deck the halls we once walked through" to the nursery rhyme "1 for the money" to "she's stucked in the head" to the ending. Everything is deep!! And TAYLOR SWIFT IS A GENIUS.

I have a theory that the songs they wrote together are all Joe's stories from not-joe's perspective, and some (maybe not all) are true/semi-autobiographic. Like Joe asked someone to marry him and this happened with her saying no, basically, and Taylor wrote the song based on his experience from his exes point of view. And since the speaker's ex in the song has a new fiance that would point to the idea that Joe has asked Taylor to marry him. 🎉🎉🎉

Joe Alwyn is actually credited with co writing this song with her (under the pseudonym William Bowery) and some others as well. So, thank Joe for being a very talented writer/poet as well as one of Taylor Swift’s all time greatest muses. We love you Joe! 😂❤

I just heard this song today for the first time. On the radio and I had no idea who sang it. I actually thought it was jewel. I looked it up and then was really surprised that it was Taylor swift. I've never really listened to Taylor Swift music before but anyways I really loved the song and I'm so mesmerized by Taylor singing voice I had no idea. What a sweet surprise and treasure I'll be sure to catch more Taylor Swift songs from here on out😂😂😂😂

If you like this one, you should mainly look into her albums folklore and evermore (from which Champagne problems is) they have songs with a similar folk/indie vibe. Her early albums are more country pop and later it's proper pop with synths etc.

yh it does. She clearly feels bad for him as he really wanted to move forward but had to say no because she wasn't ready breaking his heart because he probably wasn't expecting that. For me, I think it's how considerate she was about his feelings and how upset she is about all the comments they both got.

i absolutely love that she used "tapestry" among all other things. tapestries are cultivated with such detail, and once ripped, the damage is almost irreversible. the tapestry of love that they've created took a lot of time, effort, and patience. she's aware that even if someone will patch it up, the scar that she left will be there, always.

It seems to me that in 2019 Joe and Taylor thought they were ready to get married and then when he asked she said no and didnt know why. So they stayed together through the pandemic maintaining a relationship thinking mayb Taylor would be ready but she never was. Thats probably why so many of the songs are abt doubts and breaking up in most of the songs in Lover, Folklore and Evermore. I never believe a lot of what Taylor says. She is as cryptic as her songs. For some reason some of you think that her songs are always abt one specific relationship. In the beginning when she was first writing songs thats probably true. Now tho she has had lots of relationships and friends in relationships and so her songs are more likely a combination of all of it.
