she's training the "new taylor". She releases her when she is "ready". That's why you can see she is not impressed with her tricks until she brings out the floating globes. Once she does that, the original version decides the new taylor is ready to take over but knows she'll have to sacrifice herself in order to let her out. That's my understanding of it anyway, saw a in depth explanation from another fan not long after the video came out. Love this video- I think it's supposed to represent all the times she has 'reinvented' herself, which is sometimes in contrast or conflict with her past self. This was the Reputation era (same as look what you made me do) so she was definitely presenting a harder/tougher version of herself in response to everything everyone was saying about her in the media.
