@@kierankiee109schools have a graph they call "curve" to show the grades of all students. The student with the highest grades is at the top of the curve. Taylor is saying that she was so ahead of the curve... That it became a circle. So she ended up at the bottom of the graph, meaning she started getting lowest grades. She talks about this in her long pond studio session as well.

I feel like this song is dedicated to people struggling with mental illness, especially if you had the “shiniest wheels” when you were younger but now they are “rusting” - symbolising that you can never go back to your former happy and carefree self no matter how hard you try. A truly tragic realisation but hey at least we're trying 😔💔

yes, as well as "pulled the car all the way to the lookout, could've followed my fears all the way down' refers to being suicidal. and "fell behind all my classmates and I ended up here" you lose motivation and your mental illness starts to affect your grades.

When she says: I was so ahead of the curve, the curve became a sphere... The metaphor there is INSANE. She’s essentially saying she was so ahead of everyone that she got trapped in a loop and was alone there. She became a “mirrorball”- constantly pleasing, accommodating and trying to be new & shiny. DAMN. What a lyricist.

as a person who's suffered from severe depression, i can't listen to this song without my throat closing up emotions. the regrets, coping with always being misunderstood, the loss of potential, the constant struggle with the inner demons, the suicidal thoughts. This hurts me so much cuz all my life I’ve been the perfect student, got all the accolades and awards, got all the praise, and now I’ve come to the point in my life where I’m nearing the halfway point of my college career and I’ve just…lost the motivation. I don’t know where it went. I used to procrastinate so much but still get everything done correctly and well but now every assignment just leaves me dreading it with a pit of anxiety in my stomach that won’t go away. And it’s so hard to just admit that to everyone when everyone I know has so many high expectations for me since I’m the one that raised them that high. I can’t seem to keep up with the pressure anymore. So many people I know are still going strong but I’m finally falling behind. This song just gets it man.

i’ve sobbed to this song so many times. it is my all time favorite because of how much i relate to it every single day. i have struggled with OCD my whole life, but was officially diagnosed in may 2022. it’s been the hardest year of my life, and there were days where i wished i wasnt even here. i’ve loved taylor my whole life, and once things got better for me in january, i found this song, as well as all her new music. this song will forever be special because of how it has gotten me through the tough days. “they told me all of my cages were mental” = i got diagnosed with a mental health issue. “fell behind my classmates and i ended up here” = OCD turned me from an A+ student to a B-. i don’t get homework done, and my teachers and parents are disappointed with how much im failing with academics. “all i want is you” = my old self. the girl i miss everyday who wasn’t consumed by her own intrusive thoughts, and was just happy. happy to be her, happy to be here. “pouring out my heart to a stranger” = having trouble being able to confide in my therapist when she didn’t know me before the OCD, so she doesn’t know the real me. anyways this is my all time favorite song because it’s always here to get me through the hard days, i love you with everything in me taylor.

In some of the lyrics, it almost feels as if she isnt talking about a relationship but about her career, and how since she didn't receice a grammy, she thinks she fell behind all her classmates though she used to be the one ahead... and it relates to how most of us feel that we used to be so intelligent and now qe are strugglimg to pass our tests.....

It feels like she is talking to us... The Swifties about her career. And that this Album is she trying... "I've had a hard time adjusting. I had the shiniest wheels now they're rusting. I didn't know if you'd care if I came back. I have a lot of regrets about that." I mean, it sounds like she is talking about the time of the big scandal with the call from Kanye and she disappeared cause she didn't know if we would support her. " And maybe I don't quite know what to say, but I'm here at your doorway. I just wanted you to know that this is me trying" Like she didn't really know what to say to us, but she is trying.

First time I listened to Folklore, I thought the songs were kinda the same but as I continue to listen and get to know each song, it's weird but they started to all sound different, each holding their own beauty, depth and serenity. @harrisonbaguley5691

i think it's because a lot of the instrumentation is very similar, and the album has a very clearly outlined harmonical theme that is carried throughout, so at first listen when you're mainly just absorbing the song as a whole instead of listening to the lyrics as their own entity, you just hear the similarity. it's quite clever really, because the more you listen the more meaning you glean from the lyrics, and the more you can understand the concepts explored. like for example, the lyric 'pulled my car off the road to the lookout, could've followed my fears all the way down' didn't mean anything to me on my first listen, but now it makes a lot more sense and adds more meaning to the rest of the song as a whole

People speculate a lot about who the "you" is in this song. A lover, a friend, a family member? I think the "you" is yourself. I think this song should be interpreted as a song to yourself. To let yourself know that you're trying. Trying to get back who you used to be before the mental illness, or addiction. Trying to stay strong. "You're a flashback on the one screen in my town" could mean yearning and searching for that past version of yourself before the mental illness took over. That's what I think anyway. Remember, be kind to yourself. If all you did today was survive, I'm proud of you. ♥️

I think that you is her song and that she is Herbert where she is through her journey with her Mental Health and realizing certain patterns that she had when she was a teenager. For some reason I knew something wasn't right and I could tell like every year you could see the sadness and if you know what I'm talkin about it's like you know. People might argue with me and think I'm speculating but if you don't understand the struggles you just don't get it.

Everyone keeps saying “the old Taylor is back” but Taylor is evolving as an artist! Yes, there may be similarities to her old work but a true artist evolves over time!! There’s no “old” and “new” Taylor- there’s only one that evolves with time!

The lyrics "they told me all of my cages were mental so i got wasted like all my potential" is actually really interesting because there is so many ways to interpret it. For expample, someone with mental illness may relate cuz it talks about peoples mental problems being like a cage since its hard to get out of it and people say that it's just in their head. You could also interpret it like how I did where the "cages" were dreams and the people who said that they were "mental" meaning that the dreams were crazy/hard to achieve. 13 likes! ❤❤

I am pretty sure Taylor has somekind of mental illness. Not sure which one (ADHD, BPD, BD... or what), but definitely, maybe more than one. All of her behavior and most of her lyrics show that.

2021 was the strangest year of my life. The worst I've ever felt, I've been through alot. I lost myself completely and getting back to myself and knowing myself to the deepest levels possible, feels like a huge hug to me. This is me trying got me through alot. I don't identify as the person I was and that is somehow so peaceful for me to know.

I don't know if anyone else felt this way when listening to this song, but instead of viewing this as talking to another person, I imagined it as me talking to myself. It works both ways talking to my past self and my future self. As someone who feels like their life has fallen apart when I used to be in such a better place I feel like this song is me telling myself that I'm trying to get better. I'm trying to make a better future. I'm doing my best and my best is ok.

Today I'm gonna take one of the most important exam of my life. I studied for it, I stressed for it, I stayed up late for it, I sacrificed for it and today when its here and I have realised because of just one mistake I destroyed my preparation completely. Everything just got ruined. I remember things but they are of no use. I even stopped trying at the end. I'm in the darkest time of my life right now and this song makes me feel seen. No matter how hard I try, one single mistake destroys everything. I wont be able to forgive myself I guess but i don't want to be so hard on myself but I cant help it. I'm so broken right now.
