Audiences were very different "back then." People were more polite, more reserved. Yes, his entire soul, his guts went into everything he did. There are a couple of photos of him after a concert, coming down a flight of stairs w- a man or 2 men waiting for him in order to catch him in case he would fall over. Seeing him afterward is a whole other experience in itself - hair soaked falling over his face, head down, looking like he would collapse. The comment for one of the photos says "someone else would have collapsed after that kind of performance -- but not Elvis." Thanks for your great reactions.

I was a teen in the 70s and it was polite to sit and listen to the music. I never saw crowds standing and dancing until early 80s. Screaming by girls, yes! Unfortunately, I had been in Vegas when Elvis was there. I didn’t know what I was missing! /facepalm

The best of Elvis is where he is showing real passion with the song. There are 2 that he brings out real emotion in you. If I can Dream (‘68 Comeback Special with Elvis in white suit) was written after Martin Luther King & Bobby Kennedy were assassinated. The 2nd is What Now My Love in Honolulu in ‘73. You can see his tears in that one. They are the best.

You really can't go wrong with ANY Elvis song. This was done the year I was born, but my mother was a HUGE Elvis Fan so I was raised in the same way. My hubby is also a huge Elvis fan and he took me to see Graceland for the first time a few years ago and it was like going to The Church Of Elvis. Keep em coming.

We weren't always reserved. Part of it was not wanting to miss anything and being stunned by his performance. However, this particular audience knew they were on camera and being viewed worldwide. They didn't want to look crazy or silly on tv or take any attention away from his performance for those viewing this on their tv. When I saw him in concert in 1972 it was my very first concert and I was already crazy about Elvis because I'd been listening to his music and watching his movies with my mom since I was born. I was 10 years old and just sat there, barely able to breathe, tears running down my face but afraid to blink in case I missed something. Seeing Elvis in a live performance was mind blowing and a memory that I still haven't forgotten 50 years later.

@@jennywren7822 I am from Little Rock, Arkansas and that April in 1972 was when he came for the concert here. Little Rock is only 175 miles from Memphis where he lived. Excitement was really in the air that day. All of my female relatives and girlfriends went. We all went together. More than 1 car, of course. I was so excited, I could barely control myself. They turned the lights off in the building and when they came on, there was Elvis on the stage. I cried for a few minutes. It was a once in a lifetime dream for me and stands out in my memory and always will. He had a sold out crowd that night.

An Elvis concert was a lot more than music. It was much more about entertainment than with any other artists back then. Most artists today use what they learned from Elvis' previous success. Today's concert-goers want that same type of entertainment. But, they do that through participation. They listen to the music, and take the energy from the performance to create the entertainment themselves. I also think the people that followed Elvis considered the calmness as a way to respect The King.

🔥🔥🔥🔥 They may have told the audience to chill back some, I don" know but I get what you are saying, this was televised live too ! This one they let loose some but not like they normally do. Elvis Presley - Fever (Aloha From Hawaii, Live in Honolulu, 1973) - This one is great Elvis Presley - Suspicious Minds (Live in Las Vegas) HD and Elvis Presley - Trying To Get To You ('68 Comeback Special), oh and Elvis Presley - Polk Salad Annie Live (High Quality) ! That will give you some excitement ! LOL

The 'Aloha from Hawaii' concert is said to have been the first live concert to have been broadcast live to various countries around the world and was seen by more than a billion people! It was also a charity concert in aid of the 'Kui Lee Cancer Fund'. Elvis was not paid for his performance and the audience made donations to the charity instead of buying a ticket. They aimed to raise $25,000 for the cancer fund and they actually made over $75.000!!

This appears to have been filmed for television. Many times they will ask the audience to hold their applause until the artist is finished so it doesn’t affect the audio. It may also be recorded for a live album and the same request might be asked. Elvis certainly had his share of screaming crowds! Thanks for another great reaction.

It was sent out LIVE via satellite, to over 40 countries, the first show to do this. One show was recorded the day before in case something went wrong. 1.5.000.000.000.000 people are said to have watched it live or recorded to show later on TV. It was groundbreaking and will go down in history...

Greetings from cold Minnesota! Maybe I have a perspective on the "coolish" audience responce. The show was " Aloha from Hawaii" via satellite, broadcast world wide, to over a billion people. And for as important and historic event this was, crowd noise couldn't be excessive. And this "satellite beaming world-wide" was something new. THANK YOU for reacting to Elvis. My vote for another reaction is "What Now My Love" from the same concert, the rehearsal edition. THANK YOU!

Another gem of a song and awesome reaction! Thank you so much for this one! If you'd like to take another trip back in time, might I suggest another artist/song you haven't yet reacted to - Roy Orbison, "Leah." Elvis once said that the only other singer he was in awe of was Roy. To my knowledge, Roy was never musically trained - in any way. He just opened his mouth, and what came out was pure gold. His voice is like no other and may not be to everyone's taste. Personally, I could listen to him on repeat, infinitum! He has that "it" factor that draws you in and can break your heart (if you have one!) He was making a "come back" with the Traveling Wilburys when we suddenly lost him. Thank you for having the best reactor channel - bar none!

The concerts were crazy with screaming and people running to the front. Most people did sit and listen and did the screaming at the beginnings. Also, since this was a world-wide broadcast, they may have removed the screaming from the tracks. The two concerts I went to were full of screaming and people running up as close as they could get. Most of the crowd did stay seated. I personally hated the screaming. I wanted to hear the music.

I think that the audience being so reserved, was, maybe, "all of the above". Yes, audiences were more reserved, in those days---but, also, I think it has to do with the culture/peoples of Hawaii. They are more reserved than, say, the South, where we're all loud (LOL), and then we differ from New Yorkers (even though they're loud, too)---and then, you go to New England, and except for the major metropolitan areas, they're back to being more reserved. Also, I liked what someone else said about "respect for the king".... I really think they hit on something, there, and I'm not so sure it would be like you said (if he were alive, today, and doing concerts, people would not be so reserved), because, for instance, as rowdy as Southerners can be, I've seen Reba in concert, and when she sings "Fancy", at the end of every show, there are times when you could hear a pin, drop, because that's her signature song, and even though everybody, there, knows every word, it's our queen's moment, and it would be, like, irreverent to interrupt the queen.
