It never ceases to amaze me that there will always be a dozen or more people who "dislike" videos like this one. I don't see how you don't like this video-it's an interesting product and it is good to be aware of options like this mini-driver. I know for years I didn't have a 3 wood I liked and so I hit driver and a 1 iron, which was fine when I was 22 and could swing 125 mph. Then I lost a little clubhead speed, and striping the 1 iron 260 became less common. So for a while there I had a driver that went about 280-310, and then I had a 3 iron I carried about 225. That left me a big gap between my driver and the next longest club in my bag, and this mini-driver might have been the perfect option.

I bought this as a second driver. I hit this on tight par 4s or short par 4s and save my driver for long par 4s and par 5s. I don’t have confidence with 3w. The larger head restores my confidence to give it an aggressive swing instead of trying to steer a 3w and miss hitting off the tee. I went with the 13.5 version and have it toed up. I was accepting of the mini driver concept because back in early 2000s I carried 8 deg and 11 deg drivers and I really enjoyed golf. I went to a 3w and struggled. This is great for most golfers. Driver, mini driver, and 5w (or 3h) is my upper part of the bag setup.

I play a mini-driver... two reasons i'm not going back to driver 1- I hit it better than a regular driver, further than the 3-wood and straighter than driver. 2- I can hit this off deck. meaning par 5 I can go mini-driver 3 ( yeah I said 2)- It allows me to use my 3 wood to 16 degrees, thus helping me with my top bag gapping.

I often wondered, after hearing about this club, if the smaller head would be easier to control than a 460. It would definitely take some getting used to & like this guy, the only reason I carry a 3 wood is for longer par 3s if I can't reach with a 5 or 7 wood. I'd like to try this out tho. Something tells me it won't be available in a lefty with senior shaft. I don't think I'd order it as a custom club without hitting it 1st, which again, will be impossible with the setup I need. I haven't checked the price yet. Is it less than $400?

Used the older on from about 2015 when I was struggling to find fairways. After a year of playing this club the confidence went up and I transitioned to a cobra f9. Driver play since then has been solid. Went from a 7 to a 4 during that transition. Highly recommend this club as a way to gain confidence and hit more short grass.

After playing this club in the 13.5* version for 1/3 of a season, it is misplaced / misbranded as a Driver replacement. As a 3 wood replacement for tee shots that don’t fit a driver (for whatever reason - hazards, dog legs, etc.), it’s practically unmissable and gives ample yardage. It’s been really beneficial for me personally because I hit 3 wood on about 5 tee shots a round at my home course. So, 3 wood and 5 wood are out. Mini driver and 4 wood are in. “Horses for courses”.

Great review. I'm just coming back after over 10yrs. off. I used to hit my 13* tour edge 3w more than my driver. I played 36 end of last week and it's obvious I don't have the speed or accuracy to hit my old TP driver. The 3w is good but very low trajectory with a stiff shaft that I tipped an inch back than when I was swinging harder. I've already been testing higher lofted drivers and got an old 11 degree big bertha 454 with an Rflex to try. This mini driver might be right up my alley. I appreciate seeing a player hit it with a very similar swing speed (although he has a much better swing) than mine.

i had the original one for a good while! I wasnt using my 3w at the time off the deck much, it had become a tee only club on shorter or tight par 4's. so for a while i just took the 3w out and had the mini driver in. it was perfect for tight holes, i found it so, so easy to use and could hit a tight fairway and distance number with it so easily. eventually tho i practiced with my 3w until i was good with it off the deck, and at that point i put the 3w back in the bag. mini driver was one dimensional for certain holes. 3w gives me much more variety now that i have improved.

I’ve had the SLDR MD in my bag since day 1. It is an awesome club off the deck and makes most par 5’s reachable in two. It is now up for sale. I ordered this club to give it a try but I also have a Cobra Radspin Big Tour 3 wood and to be honest it is going to be very hard to beat that club. If you are going to do a shootout it should be between this club and the Big Tour. Btw if this MD hits as straight as the old one you have a winner. The SLDR MD was a frozen rope no matter where you hit it.

I'm very happy with my current driver and 3 wood, but this thing just speaks to me. I guess it's mostly nostalgia, I started playing golf right at the turn of the millennium, and when the 300-series came out a few years later it was just the bees knees. Couldn't hope to afford anything remotely in that space back then, but it made a lasting impression. =)

My version of this club is a Mizuno #2 CLK-2020 16-degree Hybrid, playing Open & De-lofted to 14-degrees, with a 1" shorter shaft at 40-inches with their non-upcharge Tensei White 94-gram TX shaft. This club is like a super easy-to-hit 1-iron, that feels iron length, that is so easy to hit, and when set open at 14-degrees, produces mid/lower flighted 230 carries that roll out to 240-250 with a slight fade. Even thought it is played 2-clicks open, tee'd up slightly, you can still draw it when needed.

Had one of the earlier mini-driver models in silver and it did what it said on the label. Used it if the tee on tight holes where my driver would land me in hazard trouble leaving me an easy 8/9 iron to green as opposed to some kind of wedge on my very best drive. Longer than my 3 wood which I lofted up to 16.5 degrees. Very impressed with versatility from tee or fairway and could well look to get rh version at higher fixed loft. Agree well done TM and big thanks to you guys for fair and highly informative review. Keep up great presentations. Cheers. Colin

I'm interested to give this a go. I've always felt uncomfortable with the big headed driver. I played the most during the early 90's and got used to the drivers of that time. Hi txg, these comparisons are great. One idea that's been on my mind is whether standard length clubs cater to a taller golfer and that average and shorter golfers tolerate the standard length either because they don't know any better or because of the cost/hassle of getting the clubs fitted. A comparison of standard length clubs versus fitted length might be interesting.

I have a Ping 400 "stretch" 3-wood that I use strictly off of the tee. I use it for long par-3 holes and for short par 4s where I need placement. My goal with this club is to hit a reliable, perfectly straight shot of around 225 yards by swinging smooth and under control. That is what I want to do everytime. I could see this mini driver maybe filling that role. Looking at the TM website I see that they have 13.5 degree loft versions, which is the same as my "stretch." Incidentally, my current Ping 400 3-wood replaced my TM 200 series 3-wood, which was truly great and what I used for 10+ years.

I've got the Original One mini driver and I love it. Yeah I give up about what Mikey does (around 10 yards) with the driver but I hit more fairways and find I'm much more consistent off the tee. It's a no-brainer. I don't really hit it off the turf but I've always been able to hit fairway woods and hybrids pretty easily off the deck, so for me the mini driver is a true driver replacement option and it works really well. That price point on the 300, though...YIKES!

I have the 2019 Original One in 13.5 degrees. I think these clubs are for anyone who is tired of spraying tee shots into the woods or penalty areas with their 460 cc driver. I admit it, I can't control the face on the modern day 460 cc driver despite all the adjustability. The mini is much easier to control for me and provides excellent distance off the tee. Can't wait to try the new 300 in 11.5 degree model.

I think this is a fantastic concept! And I believe there is a much larger market for this type of product than folks realize. The marketing just needs to get dialed in. It recently occurred to me that I hardly ever use my 3 wood off the deck (maybe one time per round on a long par 5). Really, I used the 3 wood most often off the tee when the hole just didn't call for a driver. And basically, I asked myself... is the 3 wood really the best suited club for this? I ended up building a super forgiving, higher lofted, shorter shafted "driver" that I hit 15-20 yards shorter than my regular driver and use this in place of my 3 wood. It's a great fairway finder when accuracy is key off of the tee or when the hole demands a shorter tee shot. I've found that this setup is much more handy for my game than a traditional 3-wood. I think there are many people out there that would also benefit from a similar setup. Love the content from TXG! Keep up the good work!

Good stuff guys. I’m in the middle of building myself a short driver to test and replace my 3 wood.

Great review loved my Callaway Fusion till the head cracked. Now have the Srixon Z355 at 45 inched like a shorter shaft like the Mizuno drivers at 45 but will give this a go with 11.5 degrees but would dial down as I add 2 degrees loft at impact.

I use my three wood or mini off the tee on almost all par fours. Most of the time I don’t even carry my F9 driver. My original one is an 11* and I leave it set there. My fly z three wood I have set at 13.5.

I have an Original One Mini (2w), and it works great for reaching longer par 5s. I rarely ever use it off the tee.

A lot of snobbery about this club. I'm buying one.

it received more hate than "snobbery", holistically speaking. At least on youtube this is the case.

If you haven’t tested the Tour Edge fairways much you should. You demonstrated their technology with the Driver Bracket this year. They are easy to hit and deliver driver level ball speed. Got started with the E8 beta and and am testing with cbx 119 right now. Just finding it hard to justify replacing the E8, several years old and still as long as more current tech for me.

I play courses that are 5500-6000 m at their very longest with quite tight landing zones, so this is very interesting to me. Driver often just isn't worth it off the tee when I could be 10-15 m further back but smack bang in the middle of the fairway.

Always believed that there is a place in the market for clubs like this, since the onset of drivers being over 44” I have struggled at 5ft 5 to hit any distance or consistently. I’m certainly going to order this bad boy. I Remember as clubs have got bigger I remember when the industry moved toward 300cc we all thought it surely can’t get any bigger and it did 😂

Good review on this club. I play the old Aeroburner version, I think its about 14 deg. Plays about 10% shorter than the driver and has a slight draw bias for me. Best for holes like tight doglegs where driver hits might run through the fairway, or holes with trouble on the right and fairways hits are critical. For whatever reason, its easier for me to hit than a three wood off the tee and off the fairway while I can use it off a perfect lie, I generally will use a 5 wood.

As an average golfer I’m going to replace my 3 wood with this. I carry a 5 wood also which is only 10 yards shorter than my 3 wood, then this could be a driver replacement on tight fairways and a 3 wood replacement also. It would be a dual club for my bag!!

Here´s a test-idea for you guys.. Turn it down as much as it will go add a "normal length" drivershaft (might be able to go a superlight shaft to add more speed into it) and see how far it will actually go compared to a build a beast.. Like the "build a mini-beast". That could be really cool to see beacuse I think that would be a very viable option for alot of players.

Can't you do a fitting with Mike with the mini driver like you did with matty. Different shaft and all that? Would be interesting to watch.

I have the same issue as Mikey. I have never been confident in a 3-wood, so I use 5-wood instead. That left me with 13 clubs so, many years ago, I started carrying a "Thriver" (460cc head with extra weight, and a 3-wood shaft) as my 14th club. At my course, I use my driver and my thriver equally (6-7 times each). I didn't like the "original one" because it still looked too close to a 3-wood for my liking. This one, however, at 307cc is intriguing. May have to see if I can demo that club (it is $400 USD so a little too much to just buy it for the heck of it). I liked the way Mikey hit it, though.

Great job Mikey!. I use to always play my Titleist 975D and 983E off the deck as a 3 wood. I really like seeing the some more versatility coming back to the golf market. Wonder if others will come out with a mini driver.

I added a 5 wood to my bag which I can hit pretty consistently off the turf. I might drop my older TM mini (14°) into the bag in place of my 3 wood. It launches much higher than my 16° Cobra 3 wood and the face is much deeper.
