Taylormade Original One Mini Driver vs M6 3-Wood WITH SHOT TRACER - ANOTHER TAYLORMADE DRIVER?! 2019 has been an awesome year for drivers, with Taylormade releasing the M5 driver and M6 driver, we have also seen fantastic drivers from all the other brands such as the Cobra F9, Titleist ts2 and ts3, Callaway Epic flash, Mizuno ST190, Ping G410 and plenty of other contenders for the best driver of 2019. Taylormade have just released another driver. The Taylormade Original One mini driver. This mini driver is designed to help golfer hit more fairways and not necessarily hit longer drives, this could be key to lowering your scores and ultimately your golf handicap, could this be the perfect driver for mid handicap golfers. How does the latest driver from Taylormade for 2019 perform? I guess there's only one way to find out... How does the Original One Mini driver fair against the M6 3-WOOD? lets do it... and lets do it now!

I like the idea of the mini driver being used as a 3 wood alternative. I currently have a gap between the driver at 9.5 degrees and 4 hybrid at 16.5. I kind of need something around the 13 degree area. I've been looking at 3 woods that are adjustable down to that range, but then this stick came along. AAaarrrgh!!! Thanks James, appreciate you doing this video, mate......now back to window shopping golf clubs!

It all depends on what you want and can imagine with your shots. I have and have used a ping Rapture 3W and currently bag a G400 Stretch 3W set at 12 deg, basically a 2W. I use the stretch off the tee on tighter par 4s and have no trouble hitting it off the deck when on the fairway/ light first cut rough. The I mostly grip down the shaft an inch when hitting off the deck. I carry a G30 5W set at 17 deg which I use from heavier rough. The mini driver looks like a very versatile club, might have to give a demo s try.

I find it so funny that 270cc is called the Mini Driver when a decade or so ago 300cc was the standard for Drivers. I have an old Taylormade 300 Ti 8.5* that I use for worm burners when it's windy at one of my local courses and it always hits like a beast and runs like a gazelle. :) Great video, Cheers!

I love the on field review. Its what we really want to see anyway. Real world usage. Great Video. I like the mini as a driver for walking smaller courses. Its a nice old school minimalist design, and if u throw a 5 or a 7 wood in the walking bag instead of a 3 wood, itll be a nice add on to a bag thats intended for simple old school golf. However .... if youre playing long bombing courses then stay with today's standards. It has a place, but not for real young competition. I really see it as a niche, golf walker, weekend getaway golfer type .

Replying to this comment 4 yrs. after the fact, but that's exactly the setup I have. Driver, mini D, 5 wood set as a 4 wood (16.5*), and an 18* utility/Driving Iron. I'm more of a course management style player and like to have lots of options off the tee. More fairways equals lower scores.

Defiantly considering replacing my driver with this. I'm so inconsistent with my driver that I don't use it anymore I only hit 3 wood off the tee. If it gets me a bit more distance then my 3 wood and doesn't put me on a different fairway or 2 then the one I'm playing like my driver does it'll go in my bag

As a high handicapper who struggles with the driver, I'm considering a mini-driver as a driver replacement. The shorter shaft and higher loft are appealing. And if I could learn to hit it off the deck, that'd be a bonus. I don't carry a 3 wood, I use a 4 wood instead.

How the club looks at address really effects the swing. For me the 3 wood looks like it can do the job so the swing tempo and sequence is correct . Uncertainty leads to rushed swing kinetics and ‘helping’ arm club unit action. Even really noticeable in your well honed swing. Thanks

That's interesting James...positive swing thoughts with the 3 wood and negative swing thoughts with the mini driver. I wonder how the weights of the heads compare. A while ago, Boccierri Golf put out a short driver with a heavier head. I got it and it's in my bag because the shorter shaft lets me get the ball in the middle of the face a little more (I'm a high handicapper). It sounds like the idea here is the same; the shorter shaft might make it easier to square up, but the smaller head might actually make that not as helpful on the mini driver. If you can get your hands on a Short Driver by Boccieri, I'd be curious to see a side by side there!

Had to use a old big bertha 11' driver 4 got mine on day it went OK tbh was surprised as head small. Is the mini driver similar to the old bertha. Hate my current 3 wood use my hybrids instead more forgiving. Look 4 ward to mid handicap testing as like the idea of mini driver then mini driver could create more par opportunities for me. I'm high handicap currently working on that issue but do you have a high handicap tester be good to see it used with a person with a swing not as good as yours it looked decent to me and I understand windy courses I'm just down road from u practically.

I think shortening a driver shaft - to 43-44" - and a slightly smaller but not mini head - something in the 325-350 cc range - would be a more likely sweet spot. For huge percentages of certain types of golfers (older slower swinging, shorter slower swinging, young teens, etc) this 43" 13 degree head driver is basically a perfect driver as it is properly swing weighted for it's club length and has a much bigger head than any 3wood thus making it a perfect tee club. 3/4qtrs of the people that go to the range I go to should buy this club and throw out their current 45" 9 degree lofted drivers

My SLDR goes 250-265 all day long, with the occasional romp out to 285+ but more importantly it goes straight and my misses aren't as bad as they were with a standard driver. Which I believe is plenty of distance to be attacking onto a green, anything more than 220yards and the risk reward ratio from those distances is not worth it. So really have no point for the distance 3wd gives me and since i use it on tight part 4's off a tee, might as well maximise distance.. Just got a mini driver and lofted it down to 10° Basically looking to replace the 3wood so i can use the mini driver on tight part 4's off a tee when the length of driver or driver in general is not working that day for me, But i still want maintain as much distance as possible that my driver gives me but just a tiny bit more control.

Id probably have both in bag ....i cant hit a 3 wood off a tee when i want to but can off the deck so both might be an option

I'm a bit different to most in that I feel more confident looking down at a smaller club head. The mini driver appeals to me as a driver replacement but no way in hell would I attempt it off the deck.

surely be better to compare rocket 3 to mini driver? lofts closer together then

Such a shame that we can't get the 11.5° over here in Europe. Loft it down to 10° and you'd a modern version of a 975D-era driver.

A great comparison test but I still can’t see the point of one, if you are struggling with the driver then instead of buying the mini driver go and get fitted for a shorter driver shaft

What's the point of using a 13 degree? You should used the 11 degree and see where it stands vs driver and 3 wood

I think I would stick to the M6 Driver and M6 3 Wood. I have no purpose for the Mini Driver

Another great video. Only allowed 14 clubs in your bag so there are probably better choices to keep in your bag. High handicap driver is probably the sweetspot

The only time I see the benefit of a mini driver is perhaps a bit more ability to control on a tight course. Phil Mickleson made great use a few years back when he was on links courses. He is obviously a lot longer than us mere mortals so could drop his driver from the bag in such circumstances.

Why not tee up the mini driver to a proper height? I understand the fairway shots since the MD is supposed to be a wood replacement. But I would think most people would do tee shots with an appropriate height.

Same shaft Callaway Mini 1.5 vs this Mini driver I would like to see the results. Mini 1.5 on E bay a little over 100 dollars.
