Taylor, the taller you mow your grass, the more resistant it will be to the hot dry weather. The grass shading it’s own roots helps with water retention and soil temps.

Taylor, your pressure tank is working just fine, with the amount of water your sprinklers use it should not shut off. It’s purpose is to not let the pump turn on when you use a small amount of water, like getting a glass of drinking water not when you water the lawn.
@tylerbogaard375
@tylerbogaard375 24 күн бұрын
I've had a pressure tank fail in a rental that I lived in and you are 100% correct. The pump doesn't get worn out prematurely from running constantly, it really gets worn out from constant starting and stopping. When my tank went out, the pump would kick on and back off constantly which was a serious issue.

For your hydrostatic drive, I recommend flushing the system and new fluids. My tractor recently did the same thing and thought it was the pump going out, but fresh fluid and filter got it working perfectly again. Should be a pretty cheap option to try too. Also mine got way worse when I added new to the old. Like you thought it was just low, but ended up making it worse till I just drained it all.

This mower most likely has a sealed drive. You can't flush oil, change oil, or change the filter. They're throw away units. Only commercial mowers have rebuild-able and filtered hydraulic drives. This would require drilling into the transmissions, removing the oil and welding on a bung. I've seen it done but maybe not worth it.

Taylor, the yard is looking great. One suggestion would be to get rid of some other unwelcome guests, the Sable Palms (Cabbage Palms). I noticed they are coming up to the right of the driveway in the island and to the far left of the AC condenser at the corner of the house. They will get huge and the one by the corner of the house will grow up under the eves. There also may be some palmettos next to the driveway which are very invasive. If you do want to keep some palms, the sago palms you have are nice and look good when trimmed up and there are also Roebelenii Palms or Pigmy Date Palms which look nice and are slow growing. Problem with the oak trees is the leaves, bark and acorns contain tannic acid which can keep the grass from growing. You can plant Azaleas which produce flowers in a variety of colors, they thrive on tannic acid. You'll notice the water in the river that you take your boat on is almost like ice tea in color that's from the tannic acid. Yes I'm also a Floridian. On your well pump, they are usually set to come on at 40 psi and go off at 60psi. You got a bladder tank which has a rubber bladder built inside. it's to help prevent the tank from becoming water logged. There needs to be an area of air in the top of the tank. The air will compress but water will not. You need that compressed air so the pressure in the tank will bled off gradually when you are using water. When a tank becomes water logged the pump will continually come on and shut off rapidly, even if you just crack the valve for the water hose. The air pressure in the tank is usually set at the factory and doesn't need to be adjusted.

Hydrostatic drive efficiency is proportional to internal leakage. When new and clearances are tight, you can be successful with lower viscosity fluids. Low viscosity is needed to flow in cold climates. In Florida, low temperatures function is not a concern. When wear has occurred with use, high viscosity is critical to maintaining hydraulic efficiency. It was not clear what fluid you used to top off the hydro reservoir… If it was anything with reduced viscosity you will see functional improvement to drain or even drain and flush with something like a 20w50 motor oil. Shell lists their 20w50 product at 40/100 C viscosities of 160.8/17.7 mm2/s. Their 10w30 product for comparison has 40/100 C viscosities of 71.9/10.7 mm2/s for comparison. That difference is dramatic for a pump building pressure. The internal leakage further heats the oil reducing viscosity. Bottom line, if you can, raise the fluid viscosity in the hydrostatic system.

give the mower hydro fluid another shot. I used to work on a local Navy base contracted for lawn maintenance and we had a fleet of 8 Exmark zero turns and each of them had over 14k hours on them and the oldest one was approaching 20k hours. These things run 8 hours a day, 5 days a week, all year round to cut an entire navy base, they navy seals and training grounds at Stennis, and an off site housing complex for sailors coming in from port. Every time they hit another 5k milestone the drives start to really lose their performance and instead of replacing them (which was the cost of these commercial machines new) or buying a new mower (which we didn't want to do because when we get a newer model loaner while one is at the shop for repairs, they are just terrible quality), we completely drain and flush the entire system and it is a huge night and day difference and they work damn near like new again. Hell, we go through decks more than anything with each one needing a new deck every 2 years and every season they need the bottom edges replaced with new 1/4 steel. I would imagine that the little craftsman you have, while not being a 18k-20k commercial Exmark mower, will still last you many more years.
@jowens4160
@jowens4160 Ай бұрын
You don’t have to spend 20k to get an exmark. The light commercial mowers are about 5k. My fire dept has 22 of them, one at each station, for mowing 1-2 acres once a week they work great and will last many years.
