I have tried a few of the smart apps available to me and found the Kasa one is by far the best. Pretty much everything I have attached to a tank is plugged into a smart plug. Not just for lights too. I have my filtration set to turn on at midnight and 3am with no off time. It ensures that if I am doing tank maintenance and manually switch off the filters then every forget to turn the filtration back on, it will guaranteed come back on at those times.

I have several very large tanks, like over 300 gallons each and they can take a long time to drain even with a pump. I started using a larger diameter pool hose that I connected to some pvc that hooks onto the lip of my tank. Now it'll always drain to the exact level every single time and it drains near 100 gallons in just a few minutes. By the time I set it up and then hook up my hose to refill (my nearest hookup is 200 ft away) the tank is ready to start being refilled. I went from taking almost an hour for each tank to do a water change to about 20 minutes.

Using the powerhead for water changes has been a game changer for me! I used to dread changing water on my bottom-shelf fry grow out tanks so I'd avoid it as long as possible. Now it takes just a few minutes and I'm anticipating much better growth and survival rates!

Everything you say here is good advice. Here we cannot purchase some meds for our fish, but many of us have resources and manage to have the meds we need In 🇨🇦 . Most of my tanks are unheated but I have several heated aquariums. All of my 20 to 60 gallon tanks have an HOB but I only run them to filter big bits out of the water, otherwise I only run them one day a month just to keep them working. Thanks Zenzo, great topic.

Ever since I watched your video on plugs, wow a game changer. Use to use dial timers, first hated the rattle noise, second anytime the power went out had to sync the time, thirdly anytime I wanted turn the light on reach and stretch for the timer. Smart plug so much easier and less work. Honestly love telling “Alexa, turn on aquarium lights”

Some superb ideas about installation. I like the idea about insulating the tank it self. I’ve got 7 tanks in my garage multiply air pump running and heaters in every tank think it’s time to heat the garage and get a Central air pump. I’ve only now got two tanks left in the house.

Learning about that water pump was a big help, I've been consuming loads of content and never come across that before. I only just figured out exactly what a Python did and was disappointed because I like using my water changes to water my garden. That pump is perfect, and when I (inevitably) get too many aquariums to mess around with the syphon anymore that'll be what I get. Also appreciate you upping the test strips. I got the master test kit and during a spike spent a week testing water every day and just totally burned myself out on that process. Have switched to Tetra strips with liquid test for Ammonia and I'm never going back. Would love to try those Co-op strips but I'm down in Australia.

If you're cleaning your aquarium with python if you are able to run the hose outside or into a drain on the floor and suck on the end of the hose to start the siphon you get a really strong siphon for cleaning your gravel. I use swimming pool filter sand and cleaning this way I could actually pump the sand right out of my aquarium and I have a 3-ft python tube. Cuts gravel cleaning time in half and you save a lot of water usage.

One of my favorite things to make my aquariums easier is auto feeders. I work weird schedules with long hours and use auto feeders to make sure my fish get fed once a day at the same time if I'm home or not. Then I'll supplement other foods as desired. Great for vacations too.

At 9.34, you talk about 'doing your declorinating'. With regards to the python, when and how do you declorinate in the refilling process ? I agree with all of your points, they all work for me too. I just do not have a python and that's something I need to know before buying one. I currently use tap water in containers, drop the amount of declorinator needed, wait 5-10 minutes and then refill. Thanks for your dedication Zenzo :) Sim

If you're using test strips, make sure it's a reliable brand. I only use aquarium co-op or tetra strips. My wife bought some off brand ones off Amazon and they said every single tank was the exact same. Now, I don't treat my water at all since I'm on a well, but I do have higher pH tanks due to substrates, and softer water tanks due to woods in the water, etc. My cichlid tanks with cichlid substrates and limestone was reading the exact same pH as my tetra and endler tanks.

I use the dry erase markers to now put the dates of my water change on each tank because I saw you do it in an earlier video. It is not wet erase but works great as a quick reference instead of running toy log book. My issue is adding water to the tanks. None of Mt faucets are python friendly. I need a way to refill my tanks with a pump..what kind of pump could I use?
@cmorrison5466
@cmorrison5466 2 жыл бұрын
I was wondering the same. Couldn't you just use the same pond pump that you used to empty the tanks? You could fill a 10G bucket of treated water in your bathtub, insert the pond pump, and then pump the treated water back into the tanks? I was wondering if this "reverse" procedure could be done using the same equipment. This way you just keep refilling the 10G bucket after it empties back into the tank. Has anyone ever tried this?

Thank you for watching the video. As far as the cross contamination comment, I disagree. In some situations where there are new fish introduced or if there is an outbreak of parasite or disease, I would agree. However, in many situations (such as mine where all fish go through an external and internal parasite treatment when I receive them and put them in quarantine), it is not necessary.

I personally think that if you need to have medications is due to the fact that you are doing something wrong with your aquarium from the current set up (temperature/water flow,etc) or the maintenance.
@TazawaTanks
@TazawaTanks 2 жыл бұрын
That doesn’t make any sense. If you buy fish from a store, wholesaler, or somewhere else, and if that fish has a parasite or a disease, how does your aquarium setup have anything to do with having medications on hand? Will they magically be rid of a parasite because your water parameters are good?? No.
