Taz I had a few laughs at this one because of my own experience. The first two wigs I ever bought were Aspen (now Avalon) and Mila. I was so sad about my hair loss I don’t think I would have liked any wig. They were fake and that really made my hair loss all the more real. I was devastated. I was in hopeless mode and decided I needed to thin them both. I got myself into a cutting frenzy cutting without thinking. But I had watched one of your thinning videos. I was doing the process correctly but I just kept thinning, without stopping to see how it was going. I ended up thinning too much on Aspen but thought something was still wrong. I decided to cut bangs and did it with no real technique. I cut them too short and the end result wasn’t to my liking at all. I was too panicked about the very thought of having to wear wigs all the time when in reality it is 4 years later and I’m still wearing my own thin hair out at times, so I panicked without true cause. I didn’t ruin Mila but I made it look worse. I don’t wear either of them in public. I’m mad that I made them both worse because truly neither of them needed anything. It was just through my tears that I cut them and made a big mistake. Thank you for your lessons, but mostly for your calm and cheerful demeanor. You’re a great help to so many women. Yesterday was my 69th birthday, and among the blessings I counted, you were indeed one of them. Love and hugs.❤️ Maryellen

Thank you for your patient tutorials! I haven't lost "all" of my hair yet, but just a lot of it because of thyroid disease and aging. I live in a very hot, humid, climate and I'm thinking" toppers" might be the way to go since I do still have some hair. I'm so grateful for your teachings. I really don't know what I would do if it weren't for the time you take to do this.xoxo

Super helpful! I bet a lot of us feel like we are fumbling around in the dark as we get acquainted with wig wearing. I sure do! I'm not a hairdresser, so this can feel very intimidating. But I thinned my first wig today and it went great! I thinned out Pippa, which on my long narrow face looked like a bowl plopped on my head. But i knew she had great potential if i could just de-bowl her a little. Blowdrying it on cool and fluffing it around released some of that preset shape. Then thinning it out underneath like you showed with the shears helped elongate the shape. Presto, no more Patty Duke hair, LOL. Much more current looking now. Great tip about focusing the thinning around the face to mimic how bio hair would naturally grow. Thanks for doing this video.

Thank you so much for this tutorial. Do you always wear your wigs when you manipulate them? God has truly given you a gift of helping those of us with hair loss. Learning your techniques gives us all strength to conquer problems with our wigs and courage to go out in public with them. I have worn wigs for over 40 years and it was a challenge at first just to find a place to buy them. Believe it or not, the first wig I wore came from Sears. They had a beautiful wig line!!!

Such a clear and helpful video. I don’t wear them because of health but for convenience. So glad to know the difference between too much perma-tease and too much volume. I have also taken a fairly expensive wig to my hairdresser to have it trimmed and thinned. She is a great hairdresser but after seizing your demo and a few others I realize she knows nothing about working with wig. You are a true gem!

I’m a newbie to wigs. I got really lucky and found the perfect first wig. I bought a different style wig for summer which ironically has so much hair on the top I have yet to wear it and summer is nearly over! Either I never wear it, or I take the plunge and thin it and hope I get it to a desired natural look. I have landed on your videos, Taz, and you have given me and your viewers great tips, advice and firsthand knowledge! Thank you so much! ❤️

This is SO helpful! I bought a very inexpensive wig for the purpose of teaching myself how to thin. I totally ruined it, but that was a good thing as the experience taught me when to stop cutting. I've learned I have better success thinning a straight hair wig while it's on a wig head and better success thinning a curly wig while it's on my own head. The techniques you used with both the thinning sheers and the regular scissors helped me so much in this journey to learn how to thin wigs. THANK YOU! :-)

I'd like to suggest that you do vertical partings pulling the hair forward while still clipping the top part .out of the way . This will also eliminate cutting twice .This adds some nice layering . Vertical partings cut down on noticable mistakes and horizontal cut lines.

Love these types of videos. So very helpful. I almost ruined my Seville. I thought to myself STOP, reset. I put down the scissors and said to myself - another day. Also, rewatched multiple videos on how to thin a wig. I really want to try on about 10 other wigs to thin the front so the wigs will quit flopping in my face. But now I am “gun-shy.” I am scared too. Great tips Taz! I find pinning my wig and thinning on a wig stand really makes it easier to get a consistent result. Also I thin from weft or about 4 inches from weft depending on wavy or straight and never the front inch, so I don't end up with short hair popping out like perma hairs. Your tips are great and really helpful to new wig wearers. Thank you.

New to wearing wiggys more frequent after a bad cut! Love the huge caution you gave because I did that!!! Had scissors and thinning ones side by side. Snipped, laid the shears down and saw the thinning ones lying there looking at me like “Really? It was OUR turn!” Seriously. It’s so fun to make them more suitable for yourself. My grown daughters love the look they say mom grow your hair that way! And I say girls mommies hair can get a little bit long but I don’t have that many hairs because the wigs are always so full. Thinning them helps them become more realistic therefore more wearable therefore way more enjoyable. Thanks so much for sharing

Do what she's doing (save the top layer) but cut each section at the scalp) then comb the loose hair out. Clip that layer out of the way and go to next later. Since wig hair doesn't grow, what you've cut out at the scalp is not when I grow out and stick straight up. When you take your thinning shears and you got a section just put your shears in there and cut it in 3 sections. Like stab into the section. Cut, pull out, cut the next (about one inch chunk) and then the next) it's too hard to have a 1 inch wide by 3 inch long section sectioned off and try to take your thinning shears across the entire length of the 3 inches like you would shears if you were cutting. Nothing is falling away. Does that make any sense at all? I'm trying to shoot explain it precisely and I think I may be making it harder than it is. With your wig off, have you ever pulled a few hairline hairs inside the scalp area with a crochet needle and then thin ?

THANK YOU for this demonstration, TAZ. I've learned some things here that will certainly improve my so-called method - ha! I recently bought a Gabor Beaming Beauty (at full price, I wanted it so badly - ha!), and the one I got REALLY needs thinned. I almost just donated it, but I think I'll try this first. :o) Thanks a million, Annette

You are just amazing. Awesome video and you have such great personality. I'm gonna try this with my editors pick, it has Permeatese so I have to be careful not to be carried away 😀

Thank you Taz for starting off this 'how to' thin a wig with the warning about the permatease! The one wig I wanted to thin was my Noriko Alva....eeek! So happy I watched this video first! As you know this one has alot of permatease, right?!
@TAZSWIGCLOSET
@TAZSWIGCLOSET Жыл бұрын
Right! And if you do thin Alva, only thin the outer 50% of the style to avoid the permatease layers XOXO

Thank you for this video! I am very new to the world of wigs, so my question is, how do you know if the pouffyness is from permatease or from wig density? My wig feels very thick and it's hard to pick up layers. I am just not sure of it is thick because of permatease or not. Thank you

Taz, appreciate your knowledge so much. I am new to toppers and wigs and you have been extremely helpful. One question, should a wig/topper be worn while preparing meals? Thanks in advance

I had a beautiful Bella Tress Amaretto in Vanilla Lush. I was having a panic day and decided it needed to be thinned. Idk why I did it in a bad head space, but I ruined it. :( It's about chin length now, and I don't like it. I'm keeping an eye out for someone selling one cheap cause I can't afford a new one. Thanks for the video I wish I had seen it before. Hahaha

Debby Macloud Hi Debby! I do not glue down my lace fronts on a emulate basis, I have glued them I know I’ll be outside in windy conditions, however...I.E. My sons grad party last year I wore Amore Phoenix and it was super windy that day. I glued the lace front and temples and it didn’t budge the whole day. I prefer using It Stays Body Adhesive ..it is a miracle..it has a very firm hold and is water soluble so it comes off easily and painlessly. Hope this helps! XOXO
