Watch PART 2 • Model Lesson: Student ...
This is a lesson taught by Tim Bedley, 2013 Riverside County Teacher of the Year, as he leads his students to come up with their own solution to an issue that has arisen in the first week of school.
Captions highlight Tim's infusion of the California Standards for the Teaching Profession (CSTP's) throughout the video, making this the perfect tool for training teachers.
This is part 1 of 3.

This is sooo cute! The way you all respond to each other. I like your method of teaching. I also admire the fact that you're teaching them to problem solve in a structured system. I always loved working with groups and having this type of freedom when I was their age.

This is beyond amazing what you have accomplished in this class! It's truly inspiring to young teachers to be able to achieve what you have in your class :)

@MrMZaccone Cool. I'm glad you are interested in learning. I am too. I actually formed this pedagogy through synthesizing several different teaching methods together. I haven't seen any actual material on it...so I'm working on a book myself. We'll see if I ever finish it! ; )

Absolutely love your classroom management techniques. Though I've been teaching for 11 years, this is my first year with First graders and with each shift of grade levels, I rethink and research the most effective ways of engaging students according to their developmental stage. Any pointers? Please share your attention-getters. I wasn't quite sure of the teacher voice or student voice behind the claps.

Research Whole Brain Teaching. It's awesome for 1st grade. Thanks for the kind words.

Unfortunately, consensus isn't always right. What do you do about that? Then, what do you do about the fact that the majority isn't always right either?

@tbed63 AH! I see. Yes I was quite sincere. Unfortunately, I didn't glean the goal of this methodology from the video presented. I misunderstood. Thank you for clarifying. I'm interested, where did you come across this methodology? I'm also a teacher, (albeit of an odd subject) and I'm always looking for ways to improve "throughput".

@MrMZaccone I'm not sure if you are being sincere in your question. The answer is simple: I listen and/or check student responses and then clarify misunderstandings. If the students consistently agree on incorrect answers, that tells me the material is too advanced. Incorrect answers also drive future instruction. The key: tuning into student conversations. I was doubtful of this method until I used it. Now, I can't imagine ever going back to my old traditional teaching methods.

FinalCut. I normally just add my captions right in KZfaq now, though. This was shot 4 years ago.

Hi Tim,your control of class is impressive. I was wondering what is the name of the method that you were saying the class "Teach" and the class was saying "Okey" at 2:40? Thanks
