Interview with ZHAO Feng, Director of the China National Silk Museum, where he discusses the Hanfu festival which earned the museum its Most Innovative Museums in China 2019 Award by the Chinese Museums Association. Interviewed by Carina Jaatinen, ICOM Executive Board member and TBIH2020 Jury member.
The China National Silk Museum, Hangzhou, has held two Hanfu (Traditional Chinese Costume) Festivals in 2018 and 2019, playing the role of museum as cultural hub, especially for the young Chinese community who are interested in wearing traditional clothing. These were normally two-day programmes for each festival, including a permanent exhibition tour, a special costume exhibition, senior scholar lectures, a closer view of costumes in the storage room, costume performances, academic forums, a Hanfu baby show, crafts fair etc. In the future, it could be transformed into an International Costume Festival.
