That he did. It sucks he died, though. Hahah. In that scene where he's talking about Arnold's wife like that way, I would have felt like it hitting him. During one take, the horse accidentally did throw Arnold off at some point because it got spooked during filming that scene. Fortunately, he saw it coming and managed to jump off in time into the safety cushions before actually falling off the roof of the building. *Some trivia*: Tom Arnold's character mentions something like "what kind of sick bitch takes the ice cube trays out of the freezer?" He was married to Roseanne Barr and she did that to him. He told James Cameron who thought it was so funny he put it into the movie. 9/11 is primarily the reason why we didn't get a sequel. A script was written but after 9/11 Cameron felt that "In this day & age terrorism just isn't funny anymore" This movie was Schwarzenegger's desire to play a secret agent and James Cameron added in the family part as he wondered "What would James Bond's life be like if he was married with children?"

What I love most is she says " I married Rambo". For those who don't know this is hilarious because through the 80's to the mid 90's Stallone and Arnold had a bit of a movie rivalry going that they took pretty seriously. They would try to get each other's auditions and would also to one up each other's films. Arnold once tricked Stallone into doing a movie that ended up being Stallone's biggest flop, the film was "Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot". In a nutshell Arnold was offered the movie first but turned it down because he knew it was a garbage script. However instead of leaving it at that Arnold decided to leak to the press that he was actually interested. This of course reaches the ears of Stallone who immediately jump at the chance to be in this movie. Stallone filmed it and to this day regrets it because as he says "It's the worst movie in the solar system". 😂 This is one of my favorite Hollywood stories right after The Mario Bros Movie.

My favorite fun fact about this movie is that those are real harriers they rented for the production. You think they look real flying in certain shots? The one landing from hover mode is absolutely real. The one Harry borrows and pilots is quite literally a borrowed one they brought into the studio where they altered it and customized it. They had it built onto and attached to a hydraulic platform so it was like one of those amusement park rides. It was returned fully intact and as it was when rented when they were done. Seriously, James Cameron wrote a $100,000 check to rent the harriers and the pilots which is so awesome. XD
@davidge5856
@davidge5856 3 жыл бұрын
I lived in Miami when they were shooting this film, and remember all the hoopla on local TV news over them using a stretch of incomplete highway (the seven mile bridge or Middle Keys Bridge or whatever they call it now) for the Harrier scene, and the drama about them potentially using explosives - which was actually done in miniature - and the timing of the van being blown into the air was a complete accident, but it looked SO REAL. Mixed with the actual Harrier footage, it's just jaw-dropping. My buddies and I would drive down the I-95 and seeing this Harrier Jump Jet hanging off a crane around this building for about a month whenever we went to work. For us it would just change position occasionally, but to see the final result was absolutely amazing. Imo, Arnold's film career never reached this high again. This was definitely the peak, and what a high mark to share with so many other great films.

Fun but sad/respectful fun fact: They were going to do a sequel movie for this. Unfortunately, they never started production at all. The story would focus most of it on a commercial airliner with Harry and Helen back as the spy couple. But the 9/11 attacks occurred when they were brainstorming the script. So they decided not to go through with it out of respect and they felt it wouldn't have been appropriate to do so. This film, as James Cameron admitted, was perfect as it was and could work as a standalone.

I have a special memory with this movie. My wife was a bit overdue to deliver our daughter and in the morning she saw the Dr. She was starting to have a contraction now and then and the Dr said the baby would probably come the next day. We rented True Lies on the way home and started watching it. My wife had a notepad and every time she had a contraction she wrote down the time. When we got to the end of the movie she realized she had been having contractions 5 miniatures apart for the last hour, time to go to the hosptial. It was January and as soon as the cold air hit her she was full on in labor. Our daughter was delivered in the ER five minutes after we got there, no epidural. If the movie hadn't been so good (and as long) we would have got there sooner.
