When Reese tells Sarah about the photo, and says he always wondered what she was thinking about when the picture was taken.... and then at the end you find out that she was thinking of him, telling their unborn son about his father. So that adds a whole other layer to the photo plotline. I've always thought that was a really genius bit of writing.

Arnold’s performance as the Terminator is really undersold. Yeah, most of the time he isn’t lauded for acting ability (I do think he grew as an actor over time...not much range obviously but actually pretty charismatic), but it’s not nothing to believably depict a machine. He’s genuinely frightening in this-you believe he’s The Terminator. It’s in the physicality and the “deadness” in his eyes.

He deserves even more credit than that. He came up with a lot of the Terminator's mannerisms and movements himself... details that nobody notices unless they are pointed out, but which sell his inhuman nature. Examples include moving his eyes all the way to the side before moving his head to follow (giving the vague impression of a CCTV security camera) and moving his shoulders to face his target before shifting his hips to follow. All things that no natural human does, but that aren't flashy or given too much attention by the film.

Samantha's reaction to the gun store owner getting shot and the realisation that Arnie is the bad guy in this film was just so genuine! It's funny because when this movie was released, Arnold had only one big film under his belt with Conan the Barbarian and was not known for "always being the hero." So it wasn't so much of a surprise for audiences in 1984 that Arnold was the villain. The real tension came from Reese as he follows/stalks Sarah and is somewhat mimicking the Terminator's actions (gathering weapons, looking through the phone book) and you're left guessing if he is there to kill her as well until the shootout in the nightclub. Love your reaction videos! Can't wait to see you two react to Terminator 2!

Excellent reaction. Watching you guys experience this film for the first time is such a kick. So a couple of BTWs: Sarah Connor is described as 19 years old in the script for Terminator, though both she and Michael Biehn were 27 when they shot the picture. Cameron and Producer Gale Anne Hurd wrote the script together, and were suppose to shoot the movie back in early 1982. But Arnold had just finished shooting Conan the Barbarian, (his first major staring role), and had a stipulation in his contract that he wouldn't star in any other sci fi or fantasy film for at least a year from the release of Conan the Barbarian. So Terminator's production was delayed and it didn't come out until 1984, which meat all the actors aged up just a bit from when they were initially cast. During filming, they didn't have a car rigged with break away glass for the scene where Arnold punches the driver's side window of a car in order to break in and steal it. So Cameron handed Arnold a small metal dumbell and told him to punch the real glass window as hard as he could, but sorta hide it, so that it looked like he hit it with his bare fist. Arnold, thinking he could injure himself started to protest, but Cameron said it was the only way to get the shot, and also to hurry up, because they didn't get a film permit to shoot at that location, and if they took too long, they could get caught and arrested. Arnold later said he considered walking off the production, but he liked Cameron, and thought the script was so good, it was worth risking harm and or arrest, so he stuck around. I find it poignant that the photo Kyle has of Sarah, which in part causes him to fall for her and to choose to volunteer to time travel to meet her, is taken at a moment when she is recording a message to her son about Kyle. So when Kyle looks at the photo, he's actually seeing her remembering him. Looking forward to Terminator 2!

Bill Paxton and Lance Henrikson are to my knowledge the only three actors killed by A Terminator, an Alien, and the Predator. Also, there was a deleted scene where Lt. Traxler gives Reese his pistol and tells him to take care of Sarah. He may not have 100% believed his story at first but at the end. He saw what the Terminator can do.

The most romantic detail in the movie is that the picture of Sarah given to Kyle by John Connor which causes Kyle to fall in love with her captures a moment where she's remembering Kyle and the love they shared. He cherished an image of a frozen moment where she was thinking of him. Beautiful detail.

T1 was a fairly common low budget sci-fi movie for the 1980s. T2 is one of the best sci-fi movies of all time AND one of the best movies of the 1990s. T2 has peak top-notch practical effects. T2 is the dawn of CGI and still looks great.

Most of the T-1000 Special Effects were not CGI, they created models, look up Stan Winston Terminator 2, Stan Winston made all Special Effects in the 80s, 90s like The Predator Effects, The actual Predator suit was a guy wearing a suit in South America jungles

@@kishenkoolskills90 , yes you are correct. Most of them were practical effects. The T1000 was the first use of CGI in a movie though. But not all the movie. I know specifically the checkerboard floor scene and I believe the "pour thru the helicopter windshield" was CGI. The helicopter under the overpass stunt was real, the insurance company for the movie studio would not insure it. , The stuntman was self bonded insured, so he did that stunt. Practical effects always hold up better over the long run than CGI anyway.

ok the reason the waitress wanted to show her the news info, is because it involved her name "Sarah Conner" now The TERMINATOR doesn't have any positive record of who Sarah Conner is. It only knew the name, when and where "Sarah Conner" could be located........

I saw this one for the first time with my mother, in the theater. She had already seen it with her mother, and she knew I would like it. I remember telling her how uncomfortable the love scene was with my mother sitting next to me. She said "I know." LOL :D

I saw this at a late night showing in NYC on a business trip. Before this nobody had really heard of James Cameron and I think Arnold had only been in Conan and a couple of off brands. This proved “I’ll be back.” This cemented him as an Action Star.

Trippy part about Terminator is when you think about it all the events that happened in the movie have already happened at least once. The picture of Sarah that Kyle had and is taken at the end of the film proves that. But for John to be alive in the first place to send his own dad back in time (Who is younger then he is) He must of had a different father in the original timeline. Then in the future the moment time travel exists and he sends Reese back for the first time it changes who his father is and begins an endless loop.

There are so many stories where some brave hero decides to give their life to save the day and because of their sacrifice the good guys win, the survivors all cheer and everybody lives happily ever after. But the hero never gets to see that ending. They'll never know if their sacrifice actually made a difference. They'll never know if the day was really saved. In the end they just have to have faith.
