The 2016 arbitral award matters to the rules-based global order especially in the waters of the South China Sea and the EEZs of the countries surrounding it. Without UNCLOS, China would have used its newly acquired economic and military advantage to unilaterally own the whole South China Sea and expand into its neighbors' territories with impunity, bringing 30% of the world's maritime commercial traffic directly under China's absolute control.

Hilbay did not argue the case it was the foreign lawyer. He merely did the opening statement.

He and others in that group “merely” did some research like gather facts/info/evidence that was used in the argument of the case leading to its proverbial win. The foreign lawyer did the arguing because he is a liscence international lawyer and the others were not.

@@janmariekrista2002 Others yeah. it was mostly justice jardeleza. Kaya nga napansin mo yung unang tanong ng hosts hindi niya ma grab ang credit. There is an running joke in the justice community ma tiga timpla lang daw siya ng kape dun. hahaha. pero anyway i liked his interview mas rational. although no one asked the real treasure in WPS-the sampaguita gas field. The gas in that field does not belong to the Filipino people but to the indonesian owners
