That's the 90s for you. I grew up in that era. Born in the early 80s. The 90s were awesome *_then,_* but looking back, they seem even more so now. Life was definitely much less complicated back then. Which is ironic, isn't it? All of the gadgets and gizmos we have today were designed to make our life _easier,_ but inadvertently made us long for days when we didn't have them...

The later seasons were just as funny - it was still high quality comedy - but yeah, the characters felt less real. The first seasons you could connect with them in a different way.

Wasn't it stated somewhere around the time of his upcoming wedding to Monica that Chandler was pretty well off? He may hate his job, but it clearly pays very well. Chandler and Ross are the only two of them all that never have to worry about money. Monica struggled to find a job in the earlier seasons and had to get a roommate to help pay the bills, Rachel worked as a low income waitress, Phoebe occasionally struggles to find clients for her massage business and Joey is constantly struggling with money, except during that time when he was a regular cast member on Days of Our Lives. Meanwhile, Ross has a steady gig as a professor at a university and Chandler didn't start struggling with money until he quit his job and started again from the bottom as an intern and by that time, Monica had a well paying job as a head chef in a restaurant that paid their bills.

Chandler *was* wealthy, though? I mean Monica, Ross, and Rachel all came from reasonably well off families, but Chandler's dad left his mom for the houseboy...AKA Chandler's family had servants. He supported himself but I'm sure he had some cushion/knew he could fall back on his parents if necessarily.

I think they were roommates, not necessarily classmates. American students who live on-campus are usually assigned roommates pretty randomly. I studied history in college but had psych, marketing, and English majors for roommates.
