It’s amazing how some manufacturers try to justify the pricing on their guns here in late 2017. TC COMPASS proves that the manufacturer process can be high end without the high cost. What you pay for is what you get applies to some things. Gun barrells are made by everyone using the same equipment moreless but they want to charge extra

Love my TC compass in 308. It can do most anything a much more expensive rifle can. That said, fit, finish, and overall feel are definitely behind say a Tikka or Bergara... To be expected obviously. The bolt has some definite slop during manipulation, but it is tight in lockup, which is what really matters. Really can't go wrong with this. I got it on sale and with a rebate, plus a Vortex Crossfire 3-9x scope for just under $300. It feels good to have something I can lug around and hunt with without caring about dinging it up.

I'm a budget target shooter/reloader with a T/C Compass II in .223. Shooting around 3/4 moa and think I can get it down to 1/2 moa. My only issue is with the magazine. Tends to pop loose sometimes if I'm not careful. Relatively minor issue I can work with. Bigger issue was the lips on the polymer mag wore down enough after around 200 rounds that the rounds would not feed. To T/C's credit a couple of emails to them resulted in a replacement magazine at no cost to me and no hassle. Great customer service!

I love mine. I have a 7mm Rem. Mag. and I put it in a Boyd's featherweight stock and I put a 20MOA EGW scope base on it instead of the factory. I also installed a muzzle break and it's a very smooth shooter so far. With the 20 moa mount, I am planning to zero at 350 and should be good out to 1500 with my loads. I'm shooting 175gr. Accubond LR bullets over Reloader22. Hoping to get into a 1000 meter shoot this spring, if they don't cancel it this year.

I've been looking at the Compass and it's a beautiful rifle. I've got a Browning bolt action in .308 and it shoots a 3/4 moa at 100 yards. I use 150 gr. Remington green box and I've never had to shoot a deer twice. I love the .308 round, because it's so accurate with just off the shelf ammo. I'm thinking of buying a Compass in .243 cal. , Looking at your video, I'm convinced now to go ahead and buy one, which is in my price range. Thanks for a great video!!! You've sold me!!

This time last year, I purchased 3 of these rifles for about $200 each, taking advantage of the $75 factory rebate and free shipping from Sportsman's Outdoors. I first bought the 7mm Rem Mag to compete with my son-in-laws model 700. Very impressive bolt and action. I topped it off with glass, range fired it, and bought two more. I have this firearm now in 7mm Rem Mag, 7mm-08, and 204 Ruger. I figured for the price, I'd put Boyd stocks on them and dress them up a bit. Not recommended but I also completely removed one of the two nuts on the trigger adjustment screw. Wow ! Cut my trigger pull in half. It was crisp to begin with but heavier than I personally prefer. I did a crude safety check buy banging the rifle butt on a table and the trigger held tight. My only complaint about these rifles is I wished the barrels were a wee bit heavier as they will heat up quickly after about 10 rounds. Nice job on the review Gavin !!

What is not to like about that rifle. I purchased but have not yet received (CA 10 day waiting period) a Mauser M18 in .308 and can't wait to zero it and test its accuracy. Mauser guarantees sub MOA. We will see. I paired it with a Vortex/Diamondback Tactical 4x-16x 44. Not as inexpensive as the TC but it's a "Mauser"!!! I very much enjoy your videos. Especially your recent series on reloading. I have reloaded pistol cartridges in the past and want to start reloading .308. Thank you and keep up the great work! Always very interesting, entertaining and most of all informative. I don't know how you find time to do anything else. I love your mountain enclave. Especially the workshop. I'm appropriately jealous.

Hey Gavin, I picked up a Compass II in 6.5 Creedmoor and they have improved the trigger since you made this video. I am picky about what I shoot and the Compass shoots WAY ABOVE it's price point. In fact, I took it out hunting this year and left my go-to hunting rifle in the safe. I would say it is a great beginner rifle, but it shoots better than my other 6.5 that costs more than 10x, so it is not just for beginners.

Recently purchased a TC Compass in 6.5CM on the used market at a gun show in the Houston area. I paid $200 for it with no scope. I installed a Pentax Pioneer 4.5-14x42 and took off for the range. Shot 3 shot groups with 3 different brands of ammo. Hornady 129gr Interlock, Winchester 130gr Power Points, and Remington 140gr Cor-Lok PSP. The Winchester PP's sucked terribly. The Interlocks shot just above 1MOA but the Remi green box shot .6MOA. The rifle shot the best groups with the thread protector removed. I highly recommend this rifle. I killed a cull buck with it on the ranch opening day 11/2. No tracking involved. I wasn't surprised. I've been shooting a custom 6.5x55 Swede for nearly 20 years so I was very familiar with how well this bullet performs on whitetails.

Recently bought one in .30-06 cal finally had good weather to shoot it with new scope, and was very happy to hear it sing!!!!!!!!!!! Accuracy on that day wasn't my goal all though where my hits were to target weren't bad very close infact. Have since added a bipod, sling to compliment the rifle. Waiting for better weather to check and sight new optic!!!!!!! MW in Idaho.

Took it to the range today. The cheap Sun scope wouldn't completely focus but I still shot a 1.02" group at 100 yards with American Eagle 75 gr JHP's. Not bad for a $223 out the door rifle.

Just a suggestion, but if you begin your shooting over and train yourself to NOT blink, when you pull the trigger, you should increase YOUR accuracy substantially. Look at the video, you blink violently every shot. This usally is evidence of having shot too strong of cartridges too soon in your learning progression, and learning to anticipate recoil, and unconsciously 'flinch'. You should eyeball your target clear through the shot. Any sports figure will tell you the same thing whether Tennis, football, soccer, etc. anything requiring hitting something, watch your target clear through impact! Start over with a .22 and concentrate on NOT blinking until you eliminate it. Then move up in caliber slowly, again CONCENTRATE on seeing your target clear through impact. Eventually you will quit the blinking and become a far more accurate and composed shooter. :) (advice from former mil qualified 'expert' shooter and instructor). Same thing applies to you 'pistoleros' out there.

Won't the harmonics be changed with the chrono hanging off the barrel? It seems to me the chrono on the barrel will give you problems at 600.

Ive been unimpressed with T/C for awhile. I have no experience with their bolt guns though, only muzzleloaders. Seems ever since S&W took T/C over they been going down hill. Kinda like Remington did Marlin. They used to be top notch, its too bad. CVA seems to be the better option now in muzzleloading.

I have two T/C Icons, one in .308 and one in .243. They are each very fine and extremely accurate rifles, originally designed to be hybrid hunter/tactical rifles. I really like the 60 degree bolt throw, and the action is tight and precise (I swapped out the butter knife handles, which I don't like, for ball end), the trigger is first rate, and the 5R rifling makes these rifles nearly custom in their accuracy. I tell you this to say, S&W discontinued the Icon for cost reasons (I guess they weren't selling well), but came out with the Venture, Dimension and Compass, all of which retain most of the features that make the Icon what I consider a superior rifle. I have not shot any of the S&W iterations, but every review I have seen or read reports they are fine rifles, and bargains at their respective price points. Also, the Venture has sold enough that there are now aftermarket wood and laminate stocks available from Boyds Gun Stocks.

I have the T/C Venture in .30-06 and it is a beautiful shooter. Even using factory 165 grain Remington core Loct ammo it gives me 1 MOA. I strongly recommend taking a look at the T/C bolt action rifles.

If you're looking to take it out further than 600 yards, I just found out that a company called EGW offers both 0 & 20 MOA picatinny scope mounts for the Compass to replace the weaver mounts it comes with. The aftermarket is slowly but surely growing for this rifle! Here's the compatible Short Action 20 MOA if you're interested: www.egwguns.com/scope-mounts-rings/t/c-venture-compass-short-action-picatinny-scope-mount-20-moa-ambidextrous/

Great Review !! So what do you think would be the one thing you could do to this rifle to get to ,5 MOA ? Is it possible? I'm wondering if up grading stock or a chasis since the stock seems like the weakest link to me. IDK Great budget rifle , this review was 6 years ago , So maybe the newest version shoots .5 ? I'l have to look for current reviews

I know this is an old video but have you or anybody else in these comments run 7.62 NATO rounds through this rifle? I have the .308 but Thompson Center recommends only shooting 308 Winchester rounds with no explanation why.

Looks like a copy of the Ruger American rifle - right down to the detachable rotary magazine. They shoot well, too. The Ruger bedding blocks are more elaborate than pillar bedding so there is that difference. I also noticed you close your eyes. It looks like an intentional move because you hold them closed for a moment. The other shooter - Jim - looked like he had trouble attaining a cheek weld but you did not. Interesting.

At first sight they seem very similar, but there are some important differences- the base Ruger American Rifle MSRP is $50. more, and doesn't include 5R Rifling, the threaded muzzle, or the scope bases- a key feature in my book. Ruger does offer the "American Predator" which has the threaded muzzle and scope bases, but the MSRP is $100. more at $499. Having said that, I'm curious to try the American Rifle as well, looks like a great package.

The only fail on this rifle is the stock and trigger.. Trigger fix is a simple spring.. The factory had a good one to strt but it failed drop est.. The second is fill the hollow stock with 2 part commercial structural foam.. well worth the price. ( Tikka does this ). Bed the rifle to take advantage of the poor az pillars they installed. and file away as much fore-end as possible as it is quite wonky. Or, spend the money for a better stock but I am cheap and only have $107.00 in each gun I own as I took advantage of the rebate and Cabelas discounts through retain me not when the Compass first came out. Word of caution- DO NOT USE foam from home stores.. it is shit.
