Today, I’m joined by Manami Matsumae, who was the sound composer for the original Mega Man. A very successful video game composer, Manami has worked on titles like Final Fight, UN Squadron, Jade Cacoon 2, and Shovel Knight just to name a few. It’s my honor to be joined by her, and our wonderful translator, Alex who works closely with Manami. I’ll ask a question, you’ll hear Alex translate, Manami will respond, and then Alex translates it back.

Nice job with this interview!! I was reading about similarly tight deadlines in the Final Fight soundtrack collection liner notes, and how they often had to work on multiple games at the same time. There was a lot of appreciation for how their mentors/senpai would teach them how to do things but I have to imagine the amount of technical things you would need to learn to even test the music was so complicated. Basically every soundtrack we have from this era of games is not only a treasure but probably has so much blood sweat and tears behind it, so it is good to have these sort of interviews confirm how hard working these folks were!

Thank you!! I don't think I'd do well if I had to work on multiple projects at once, I'm someone who likes to knock out one thing at a time and then move to the next task. That's interesting to hear about the tight deadlines they faced with Final Fantasy and having to complete multiple games. I bet they have a ton of appreciation for their mentors, and I'm sure they learned a ton! I agree, the OSTs to this era is just incredible and I can imagine all the hard work that went into it. Like Manami said, she was working from 8 AM - 11:30 PM some days to get the project done. I admire that and I'm sure she poured her soul into it. Thanks again for listening to this interview! I've got a ton more coming so I appreciate the support. Happy Gaming!

You're interviews are my favorite! So excited to see them come back 😀 At first I thought it was unwise to include the Japanese audio, but the fact that I can auto-translate it in the YT CC settings actually made it really cool! I love that she had to learn to use a PC to work on Mega Man! Such a fun little insight we'd never have known! I hadn't heard of Dark Water, but I'll have to check it out!

Haha, I don't think anyone else cares for them! Worst video I've released in like two years 💀 I debated on including Manami's segments, but a few thoughts came to mind. 1. I wanted to authenticate the interview. I can see some people saying it's fake if I didn't include her segments. 2. I want these interviews to be as uncut and "real" as possible. Some of these interviews I've showcased on the TC Show, so for returning people like yourself, I wanted to give them the "full" interview for anything that wasn't discussed initially. I had no idea that YT could auto translate the Japanese segments, whoaaa that is cool!! I thought you would like that PC Fact!! Thanks for listening buddy.

@@TigerChainsawVideoGames sorry it didn't do better. Dang algorithm doesn't understand even slight switches in audience targeting, grrr! Maybe one of these times we should try an experiment. You send me the audio, along with a headshot of you and the phone interviewee and I could animate them Jibjab style (like little ventriloquist puppets) See if those visuals draw in anyone (I know there are paid tools that do similar things, but I could at least manage a simple jaw animation, and maybe some blinking too)

This was awesome! I always enjoy hearing what those devs think when creating some of those beloved titles and also their impact on the industry as a whole! Even if I don't understand the language, I could hear the passion that she still has even today on the work she's done and still doing! Can't wait to hear some more interviews! Great video and keep up the good work!

This is one of my favorite things to do is hear stories and have developers relive their memories making the games. I've got some really cool ones coming up and appreciate your support buddy. You nailed it too! Her passion comes through with her voice, and you can tell that the era meant a lot to. her.

UN Squadron and Final dight had the best music of most Capcom games! I good question to ask her if it was hard doing the arcade version of games like UN Squadron and than having to make a different version for the SNES WHICH SOUND DIFFERENT FROM THE ARCADE!😊
