Mayer plays the whole solo very simply ("in modo di canzona") which makes the sudden rubato (the speed up at 0:13) quite surprising. Incredible interpretation nonetheless.

Circulatory breathing lost’s the ending smooth。Meanwhile it is better to have a break in the middle shortly even no breath at all。

Is it just me or is this tempo not very steady
@stinkychildren251220 күн бұрын
that is normal for pieces from the time. it is for expressive means
@MakaiMauka2 жыл бұрын
Surprisingly unexpressive, maybe because taken so fast. Beautiful sound. Circular breathing is an impressive skill but in this case is robs the breaks in the melody their due. Amazing this solo is nothing but eighth notes. It can vary from robotic to the most expressive phrase an oboist can play.

And anywhere in between. My teacher once asked me to identify it as he tapped it “as written”..(a bunch of eighth notes). Thought he had lost his mind. Then he tapped the same notes but with phrasing….was quite a lesson that day. Because He then played it with that phrasing, the same that made Leopold Stokowski smile when he heard his phrasing. What a gift he was as a teacher. He preferred to start beginners..amazing. He also used to say all the great oboists of the past and the composer could hear you playing, so whatever you rehearse or preform imagine them listening. Raymond Weaver, a great oboist. Rest in peace…

no, it's not necessary to perform cyclical breathing, or you get a big ovecooked spagghetti of a phrase. but it's not robotic of course, Meyer is beautiful as as musician, but the conductor should have chimed in.( i wrote that in one breath)
@magicf70765 ай бұрын
Nonsense. You can’t hear it Albrecht do circulaire breathing. Just don’t look and you would never notice it.

Sowas von fad runtergespielt, kaum phrasiert, keine Artikulation, Solo Oboe der Berliner, da erwarte ich mir mehr!

Tatsächlich, im Vergleich zu Kelly z.B. klingt das recht ausdruckslos...
