Finally Sviatoslav Richter has passed the mantle to Daniel, Champion of The Genius League. A standard unto himself, above and out of reach of any human jury.

Tchaikovsky’s Concerto No 1 was the very first piano Concerto I heard in my life. I was not more than five years old. In the way of very young children, I would lie down next to the stereo and listen to it over and over again. I never knew it was possible. I still don’t. Danil Trifonov’s interpretation is as beautiful as the first time I ever heard it.

This is a solid performance. Daniils natural joy of playing is sweeping, he is a mature and sincere musician at a young age and he has, above all, personality. Here he provides passion and esp. in the second movement some excellent moments of delicate nuances. He will certainly play this concerto with even more profundity and control when he gains more experience.

If this concert was performed in 2011, as stated above, then Trifonov was 20 years old. He was born March 5, 1991. Twenty years old! We are very fortunate to have this virtuoso in our lives. There will not be another like him in our lifetimes, in my opinion. Unbelievable talent -- he lives every piece he plays -- sadness and pathos, strength, and lightness -- he is the piece he plays.

@vettegaddia62349 жыл бұрын
@ 32:10 , the cadenza should be played much faster--Argerich and Loudenitch did it best. This young men is a true talent. But I like his Chopin far more than his Tchaikovsky and Rachmaninov. For this concerto, I really think Argerich owns it. I think he should have won the Chopin Competition. But his controversial win at the Tchaikovsky Competition was questionable by many critics. The Tchaikovsky concerto sounded more like Chopin than Tchaikovsky.
@bravaLiz9 жыл бұрын
I will agree when it comes to the pristine interpretation a la Ioudinetch. However, as to winning "prizes".. what does this really .... MEAN? JUST. SAYING...
@vettegaddia62349 жыл бұрын
bravaLiz I love Loudinetch. He is one of the most underrated pianist of our time. And I also love that he is a good family man. He could have had a tremendous career. But he chose his family over fame. Argerich is technically unbeatable in the Tchaikovsky. But when it comes to passion, Loudinetch made me cried! I think he should have been the single winner of the Cliburn Competition instead of sharing it with Kern.

Vette gaddia I try to separate one's personal life with private life. However, since you opened up this "Pandora's Box".. I too will say that I made certain professional sacrifices for the sake of MY children. Seriously, how many famous female symphonic conductors can you name? I am unashamedly a Trifonov fan. Sorry. well.. not really.. hahaha... But as a former opera singer, it is similar to comparing a Callas to a Sutherland.... am wondering if this makes sense to you? Anyway, I appreciate your comment. I have never heard a Trifonov performance that was flawless. Being flawless is easy. Translating emotion through the instrument is what makes T. unique in his generation of pianists. And no one has his incredibly pearl-like beauty of touch. At least Marta Argerich says as much.

I just discovered Daniil Trifonov! He is only Twenty here? I read some strange commentary below. As it stands now, this guy is immense in his playing. Can one imagine what he will become with age, experience and maturity. If his interpretive powers increase with age, all of bloodgrss' complaints hopefully will go bye-bye. I am not one to say that there is only one great pianist in the whole world. There are many astonishing pianist, even on KZfaq. As no two painters should be compared, so I would be interested in living long enough to see Trifonov vs. Trifonov at 30 and 40 years of age and beyond that. He may not have and demon in him or turn the piano over like the great Horowitz, or electrifying tension, but Trifonov never "lectures" to you or is boring.

Past and present piano virtuosos all of them are top notch! All of hem have what it takes!... All of them can and will make their performane unique & loud! As time goes by .... Here is one example Sviatoslav Richter: The Pianist Who Made The Earth Move mighty enough to shake Carnegie Hall down to its foundation. With Yamaha pianos! Technique that conquered almost every obstacle, a sound that commanded the colors of the rainbow and an intellect and imagination that permitted an authoritative grasp of possibly the largest repertory in pianistic history.” His teacher Heinrich Neuhaus recalled, “he treated each composition like a vast landscape, which he surveyed from great height with the vision of an eagle, taking in the whole and all the details at the same time. He played like no one I had ever heard, and there was nothing I could teach him.”
