Otoh, how does this compare against a normal android with matte protector and Comfort View set to monochrome? Seems like this was the no.1 criticism of people who are not it's target market.

TCL didn't mention on the security updates supports, they only said its Android 14 ready

@@imjoshuawong NXTPaper is a reflective display technology and is ePaper, but it has nothing to do with the E-Ink technology. It's "just" an LCD with a reflective layer and without a background light. They want to achieve the same thing, but on different ways.

Not recommended, you can add an HD screen protector, but it would become reflective.

Unfortunately, it doesn't support display out via USB C. You can always use Google Miracast feature

The problem with TCL is the only main selling point for this smartphone is it's display. For RM1000, there's a few better smartphones out there. Unless you watch movies or read on smartphones all the time, it's not going to be a big hitter.

I do agree it is a niche market but there are always users who prefer matte screens for their Ebook reading and don't mind what's the internal

People who play mobile games a lot probably never even heard of this phone. This phone is very unique. Instead of making customers pay extra for 1000+ nits brightness TCL charges less for it's matte anti-glare battery saving display.

There's also quite a number of phones from Samsung/Realme etc with trash screens and specs that are selling close to this one. So it's not totally bad.

I thought this company stopped making eink phones but it seems that it was another brand (Hisense) that shut down their operations in a popular chinese online store.
