Thanks for mentioning the bit about serifs. Seriffed fonts were made for printed words. They help with readability when words are printed on paper, but in a digital format, serifs make reading more difficult. Most academics think they need the serif, because that's what they're trained to use, but online, that serif is at best less readable, at worst can cause accessibility issues.

As much as I ridicule comic sans, there's research with mixed results suggesting that perhaps it may be a fairly accessible font after all. You may be interested in this quick read: www.boredpanda.com/why-brand-logos-look-alike-david-perell/ The gist is that artistry and design are going out the door and most logos and industrial design are becoming banal and homogenous. But I don't think this is entirely bad as we are giving much more attention to accessibility issues these days.

How can I change the color of the blockquote line on the left side?

To change the color of that line, you'll need to access the theme editor and write your own CSS code, unfortunately. For professors and course developers using the regular Canvas interface, unfortunately it's just best if we stick with the basic code. Less customization, but it's simpler. Alternately, if you really need something like that, I would use a instead of and put a left border, perhaps 5px solid #[color]
