I've used a 3T ergo team carbon bar for years with no issue but I'm not sure about the combo bars. I have alloy bars in my backup bike and my MTB has alloy too. With modern alloys being very lightweight in the premium end I'd consider alloy again.

Yeah he was in a crash pileup earlier .. I watched it live. It’s amazing how these bars snapped so easily after the crash just from riding forces. I spent a fortune in 2019 on a limited 1 of 100 S-Works Venge Sagan green jersey bike that Specialized was offering that year, and on my very first ride in front of my house when I was done and came to a stop and put my left foot down .. my foot slid out under me wearing a brand new look cleat (the non-rubber lined slippy ones), it was the first time in 40 years of riding cleated shoes I ever went down at a stop 😡 Most of the force was on my left hip and it left a softball + size bruise that lasted and hurt for a month. The bike did suffer a scraped up left pedal, a scraped up left DI2 brake lever and hood and bar tape, and a nice scrape on the left side of the S-Works power seat. Even though there were no marks or scratches on the frame .. I’ve been paranoid to ride it ever since .. and went back to riding my trusty mid 80’s Colnago Master and 85 Specialized Allez steel bikes. My S-Works Venge just sits in the house as a very expensive albeit pretty piece of bike ‘art’ I regret ever buying the damn thing. I’ll never buy another carbon bike .. especially after what I’ve learned from this channel and a couple others .. as well as some other reading.

Hi. This is speculation, of course, but if there was interlaminar damage possibly cause by crash loads acting on an existing void or porrosity in the lay-up then it would not be immediately apparent to a visual inspection. A "tap test" might have given a clue, but short of X-ray it will be totally hidden. Earlier in the season there were incidents of broken handle bars (Bianci I think but....). UCI rules are that any parts used by competitors must also be available for sale to the general public. I find this situation very concerning because you or I could not be expected to have the skill to cope with this. Maybe the UCI, who are dead keen on sock length, should give more attention to the safety and integritty of the parts used and so the health and safety of riders and you and I. I will not be buying carbon handle bars in a hurry. Bet we don't get any more info on this safety concern. Pity your video was blocked (a bit like Fabio Jacobsen's broken frame being hidden!). I saw it too on the GCN and was immediately concerned.
