Just picked this game up and am excited to get it to the table this week. How does it work at player counts of 3 and 4?

Ryan Hiatt I think you need four minimum. I've played it a few times with and four and six, and it worked great for both, though six is a little longer.

Dune is my favourite negotiation game, its just so tactical

I totally agree. I really enjoy this game. In your opinion Cody, how do you think the inevitable 6 player expansion will fare? Also what house do you think they will pick and what one do you personally want to see the most? I think I want to see the Arryn but I think its likely for us to see the Dornish. Thanks for the review!

My guess is that it will be House Greyjoy. I think their dynamics are a little better known to a wider audience than House Dorne. I think a sixth player would be awesome. I love negotiation games, and I think another player would add a fun dynamic to the game, and not extend time too much.

I like how your review balances out Tom Vasel's Dice Tower review. Cosmic Encounter is his fav game so he preferred the original. Still approved though.

Your welcome. For someone who doesn't follow Game of Thrones, & who owns Cosmic Encounter, but only likes it (not loves it)- similar to your experience... is there enough difference to warrant getting this copy as well? I wouldn't think so, seems very similar to me.

They are. If you've got CE, and have no attachment to GoT, I think you're fine.

I just need more regular player in my group so I can get this game. How do you feel about this game these days? Has it been replaced by a newer game?

As far as other players - that’s what the Internet is for. When I moved to Texas, I don’t know anybody, but found tons of people to play with through Facebook. I actually gave this game to a friend when in I moved - not that I didn’t like it - but just that I had to be very selective about what games I took with me.

The Discriminating Gamer one of my members is a non board gamer, he plays with us but nothing complicated(his fav games is sagrada, shottenn totten, dice town, Incan gold and king of Tokyo, his least fav games that he has played was dead of winter, lovecraft letter, won't even give coup a chance). I think this game might be lite enough, not a lot of card reading, cosmic encounter might be too crazy with the rule breaking. Iron throne is much tighter and shorter but I need a consistent fourth player. Currently thinking about getting run fight or die reloaded being a recommended 3 player game and also men at work. 7 wonders I will save for later in the year I think. Recently got San Juan as a strong three player game, it's lite and most cards have simple text so he should be fine. I hope, it will be a good test for lite euro games.

My group has never played Cosmic Encounter but they're all willing to try this game. However, I've brought it out twice, with different groups, and each time they struggle through the mechanics. I think we're just not used to a game that in reality, most of the 'game' is actually in the negotiation. I'll give it another try with one of the groups soon, to see if we can make it smoother and get the mechanics down.

dreadknot69 It really is a game about personalities, and the game really is in the negotiation. If you're not playing with people who can get into it, it's probably not for your group.

I know that tricky card play in game like coup and lovecraft letter don't go down well with Atleast one person I play with. Small games but the rules seem to float around to a non board gamer, no solid walls and foundation like sagrada has. I got no idea how well negotiation mechanics would go down at the table.
