TDI Swapping my 1998 Ford Ranger!

Күн бұрынIts been a long time coming BUT we finally decided on a path forward for our 1998 Ford Ranger! After some negotiations with the former owner of this VW Passat we opted to grab it as a donor car for its legendary 2.0 TDI!!!!
Youll see the engine itself is a bit rough but follow along as we build our TDI Ford Ranger!

Curious would you sell this tdi ranger. Old infantry war vet here and would love a small diesel truck as I can't afford a new truck or don't need a big diesel either since I don't tow anything.

I'm not sure why the audio ended up off sync...... when I watch the raw video it's in sync, but uploaded to youtube it's off.......

@@amorag59 I'm likely going to a bhw/alh hybrid! Ill use the BHW bottom end with an alh head, delete the balance shaft, new manifold and a decently sized turbo. Looking at my cam options now

@@RunningJoe Nice that will be cool to see. Power wise I'm just sticking with a tune plus a BV43 turbo kit that the Audi A4 used. Longevity wise I am going with balance delete as well plus the Frank06 cam and head modifications. Pumped to see the hybrid build. It's great that there are so many TDIs to pick parts from, my alternator only accessory setup probably would have been impossible on other swaps.

I was thinking about taking on the exact project! I’ll be following closely. Does that company have the same thing for the stock 5 speed manual from an 02?

it works for both auto and manuals! I think im likely going to a GM transmission now though

Do you know if you have to swap to a 5 speed? I’d like to keep my automatic since I’m gunna be driving it on highway a lot for work. Not that I can’t drive stick, just get lazy haha

nope! they make the adapter for the auto as well, im about 99% certain im going to a gm trans though

@@RunningJoe awesome. Do you know how I could find the said adapter to keep the auto trans? Or are you talking about the bell housing adapter? I’m not sure how to keep the stock auto trans with the new motor. Do I just keep the stock pcm in the truck since it runs the motor and trans?

@@1Brorider technically speaking, you still need to give your trans RPM, TPS and likely a brake position switch. Youll need the pcm/tcm from your truck to operate the transmission, its why im just swapping to a full manual valve body 4l80, the website is Turbo Diesel Conversions, tdconversions.com

@@RunningJoe yea im not sure how i would keep the auto trans in it... its also 4x4 so thats why im trying to keep the stock trans so im not having to find a 4x4 manuel trans from a ranger. haha... thankyou for your help

It's really not hard , it's 3 wires I belive to make it work

2.0 bew tdi is junk and beings it's got a blown had gasket is very rare. Probably alot more problems then you know. 1 9 alh tdi is bulletproof buy a couple sets of cams and lifters cuz ur gonna need them with the bew
