Wow Kurt that after a 38km day !!! Loved how everyone was so happy at the beginning even though you were trudging through the mud and water 😊

Mud build character eh ... like you need it - grrr! It's a privilege to walk beside the mighty Kauri. You have to remember - once upon a time that whole Northland peninsula was covered in beautiful Kauri forest. Now only remnants survive. Take care. Stay safe!

It is a privilege to see these trees. Although some parts of the trail are closed to protect them, I think it is a worthy decision.

Remember that day well, from Mangamuka to Puketi Hut. Completely over did it and learnt a lesson. Well done for making it so far - 6% is still a sizeable chunk!

This is amazing, so now I understand what the TA hike is had to google it lol. Ive picked up alot of hitch hikers doing this usually taking them to the cape. Now I know what they were talking about. This is super eye opening and exciting I just wanted to hike the first 100km but now I want to do more. Have no idea the best seasons for hiking or anything about hiking but holy moly its exciting.

It is a fantastic journey. Lots of info on KZfaq about thru-hiking. I didn’t start hiking until 2019. Did some of the great walks and joined our tramping club. Don’t get intimidated by all the info out there. Just do some hiking and learn from each experience.

@freedom_on_the_trail +Thanks Mate I appreciate the advice, and I'm 42 this weekend and though I happily live offgrid mostly, I feel complacent so really want to challenge my self but in a fun way lol..this seemed up my ally I love been in nature and so far this looks like a beautiful journey.

Nice hut, seem like nice company too. Any challenges with quiet sleepers and loud bears?

No challenges. Everyone is so wiped at the end of the day that no one is bothered by anything. 😂
