It is a present especially for nuffzed202
..........................................................
A song of welcome composed for the return of Maori taonga in 1986, on their return from the Te Maori art exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum in New York.
The cry of the morepork
keeps coming back to me.
It is hooting out there
where the paths meet.
I was the one
who allowed you to go.
It was curbed,
my deep love for you
But now the formal return home;
greetings to you,
How my heart weeps
with joy.
Still standing tall is the prestige
and the enchantment of the ancestors
who have passed on.
Bring back the true spirit of the people
to help heal the survivor
crying like a slave (i.e. with loneliness)
and searching for the true path
for us all.
...................................................
The cry of the morepork
keeps coming back to me.
It is hooting out there
where the paths meet.
I was the one
who allowed you to go.
It was curbed,
my deep love for you
But now the formal return home;
greetings to you,
How my heart weeps
with joy.
Still standing tall is the prestige
and the enchantment of the ancestors
who have passed on.
Bring back the true spirit of the people
to help heal the survivor
crying like a slave (i.e. with loneliness)
and searching for the true path
for us all.
Te Hokinga Mai!
Te Hokinga Mai!
Stand tall!
Te Hokinga Mai!
Te Hokinga Mai!
Stand tall!

Tangi a te ruru,
kei te hokihoki mai e
E whakawherowhero
i te putahitanga
Näku nei ra
koe i tuku haere
Tëra puritia iho
nui rawa te aroha e
Te Hokinga Mai,
tëna koutou
Tangi ana te ngäkau
i te aroha
Tü tonu ra te mana
te ihi o nga tipuna
kua wehea atu rä
Mauria mai te mauri tangata
hei oranga mo te mörehu
tangi mökai nei
E rapu ana i te ara tika
mo tätou katoa
Te Hokinga Mai,
Te Hokinga Mai
Tü tangata tonu!
......................................
The cry of the morepork
keeps coming back to me.
It is hooting out there
where the paths meet.
I was the one
who allowed you to go.
It was curbed,
my deep love for you
Te Hokinga Mai,
greetings
How my heart weeps
in (sorrowful) love.
Stand tall, the prestige
(and) the awe of the ancestors
who have passed on.
Bring back the true spirit of the people
to help heal the survivour
crying with loneliness (lit. like a captive)
(and) searching for the true path
for all. (This stanza sung twice)

Hi Maori Brothers & Sisters, This song I heard it for the first time in 1987, when I met a Maori Brother in the Sinai dessert working for a Peace Keeping Force MFO. His name is Mike Taankink. My roots is from the Moluccan Islands of Indonesia. My culture is very simular as the Maori culture, that's why Mike & I get along well together. Mike infected me with the Maori Culture. Since then until now, I always listen to Maori songs, if it is gospel, modern, as long my hearts is enjoying the song. I wish al my Maori Brothers & Sisters God Blessings.

this is the first time i've heard this song and It touches my soul. I can't stop the tears listening to the sweet harmony. I don't understand the lyrics but this must be how angels sound in heaven. I am of samoan ancestry yet all of polynesia are my people. Polynesians (not to sound bias) are God's chosen people.

When I first heard this song I had no idea what was being said but the melody & the voices were so soothing. It sounded sacred...like a prayer. I stopped what I was doing & felt like praising God through this song. I felt humbled in the greatness of God`s creation & thankful that I am part of it. THEN, I read what the song was about. The haunting melody suits the lyrics perfectly.

Through these past recent six years, I had had experiences in my life that seem to say that I might had been Polynesian in a past life. Particularly at Kahoolawe (Hawaii). Although New Zealand might not actually be one of those places, I still feel some kind of welcoming connection in their songs and their language is beautiful just like Hawaiian. It's songs like this one that always has a raw beauty to it. I like that. Amazing video and thank you for sharing. ^__^

@leadingshield You don't have to understand the words if you listen with your heart! 100% correct !! Yes my friend ! This is exactly was the reason, identify a song after 15 years and some. The first time I heard this song in 1993 in New Zealand. This was for 15 years and some the latest. Now I can understand the text. Best regards from Slovenia santorin 1000

Pozdrav Sandor1900!
