"It’s said that Horowitz was amazed by Tatum’s interpretation and implored him to tell him where he could find the score he had used, to which Tatum replied: ‘Oh, I was just improvising’. Horowitz later said in an interview that he never played ‘Tea for Two’ in public again."

b00rak That's funny. That's actually how I got here. Horowitz was improvising in a documentary (The Last Romantic at the 11:50 mark), and I couldn't figure out the tune. Someone led me here, and seeing your comment is ironic actually XD

Horowitz never played it in public. Period. However, he once played it (in a very crazy own arrangement) during a pause while recording serious stuff in a studio. The mics were still rolling... Since then, we Horowitzophiles keep dreaming the tape might some day resurface... 🤩

It's impressive and very different to other contemporary styles of jazz. He rarely improvises or develops the theme. On the contrary, he repeats the theme in various ways with different rhythms, styles and harmonies. It makes it interesting and never tedious to listen to.

Simply fabulous. Reminded me in the best way of Liberace with his virtuosic playing of popular songs. Especially how he looks at the audience and gestures with such personality. Thrilling and so much fun.

wow, blown away by this piece. Was trying to find a good recording of Tea for Two as it is a piece my father would play, and we want it as the theme of our wedding. Love the jazzed up style, he would have loved you!!

Thats why they are called professionals. The piano is what they do for a living, its not just a hobby, and they spend the time that people work day jobs practicing piano. So of course they have a very good quality speed ratio

@@tmk7733 its not the sound but the completely out of sync with the music clapping, them clapping on 1&3 and them clapping in an obvious fermata!

Probably not the main issue here, but: Depending on the size of the venue (especially at big festivals), clapping sounds out of sync just because the sound takes so long to get to the audience and back to the microphone. An example relevant for open air concerts: At 50m distance to the middle of the audience and 300m/s sound velocity thats already 2*1/6, so 1/3 of a second of delay if there are no dedicated audience mics.

Pierre Yves Plat, je vais acheter vôtre incroyable œuvres en CD', et partitions pour piano si je ose interpréter jaja.. vous êtes un génie admirable et inspirant, merci pour partagez votre passion, (mes excuses, je ne parle pas bien le français). Je suis très surpris de écouter musique classique de Chopin (incroyaable), Beethoven (si les mots), Rachmaninov (magnifique pianoo!!), Bach (parfaite, imposible!), MOZART xD combiné avec Ragtime, Jazz, Música Latina, Blues, Charleston piano, Rockabilly! et musique des dessins animés comme pianistes de Disney (jaja!) sans perdre l'essence de la musique originale, mon Dieu... tu dois être une personne joyeuse, Je vous souhaite bien-être M. Plat. Quand allez-vous faire un DVD? Allez-vous composer une musique imposible de Rag pour Lucky Luke de Goscinny et Uderzo? jaja! Un saludo.
