Teach a Frustrated Horse to Use a Grazing Muzzle

3 жыл бұрынKara's new horse Wells was not pleased when he was fitted with a GreenGuard Grazing Muzzle. Patience and persistence got him eating through the muzzle after about 5 days.
In this video, Kara leads you through the steps she went on to acclimate Wells to his new grazing muzzle. It can be a learning process for some ponies, horses, and donkeys; don't give up if they don't take to it right away.
Horses and tack are not plug and play compatible like car parts or computer peripherals. Some animals can take a little bit of work and a little bit of settling in to adjust to new equipment.
If it takes 2 days, 5 days, or 10 days, try to be patient and kind, both with your horse and yourself. If you can, give yourself time between buying a grazing muzzle - especially if your pony has never worn one before - and when they have to be turned out for a long stretch.

this is year 2 for us wearing a muzzle. My equine metabolic syndrome pony didnt quite grasp the concept yet, although he did wear his muzzle 24/7 on pasture last year. It seems this year he has forgotten how it works, despite me feeding him through the muzzle. He doesn't understand he has to press down from above to get the grass. But if I try to show him or feed him he'll just angrily push me around and shake his head. He managed to get a treat from the ground by himself yesterday though.

@@GGEquineOfficial I practiced again with him and stayed by the paddock until after dark, he finally started using it on his own 🙏😌 he was happily grazing when I got there this morning. Thank you so much, this video helped a lot.

Bo w wilczej górze, w piasecznie i w warszawie konie nie gryzą, nie odgryzą ucha, nie kopią, lizą językiem kuby antosa i inne ludzi. Ja i inne ludzi będą pojechały na wycieczkę konie w Piasecznie, w wilczej górze i w warszawie. Ja będą dotykał ręką językiem konie. konie będzie lizały językiem.

@@hellybelly6 Fantastic. If there's any way you can send them a photo of your horse wearing their muzzle and halter, directly from the side with the horse's head up, it can also help them see if there might be any fitting issues that might be contributing to your horse's frustration!

My horse is ok with the muzzle but she gets scratches and wounds from the whole thing rubbing on her all the time. Do you have any recommandations about that?

I am wondering if these will work to help 2 Fillys that I have bottle feed and I have had them for 3 years and they are starting to fight each other

My horse is eating out of the corners. Sent email today with photos for help. Just purchased 2 weeks ago. Do you have breakaway attachments for corners of muzzle like in this video??

Rachel, yes! If you are in the US, you can order the hook 'n' loop corner straps from our website (www.gg-equine.com/collections/all-products/products/gg-houdini-helper-corner-straps). If not, just send another email to the same address you sent the photos to and our customer service rep can suggest what kind of velcro roll you can buy to make do-it-yourself straps! She might also recommend baling twine or whatever you might have ready to hand.
