I am just getting started with TPT selling. I have been a buyer for years. I have spent days watching tutorials on how to go about becoming a seller and have spent months editing everything that is copyrighted from my lessons. Now, as I complete my store and prepare to upload my first product, I was taken to a home page which showed a lot of other art teacher's products. I am seeing flagrant use of copyrighted images, such as book covers, and artists artworks! Their products look great and so colorful because all they had to do was screen shot images from published, (copyrighted,) materials. Apparently TPT must not really take those copyright laws seriously at all. I really doubt those people will ever get called out on their infringements. The page has a link to report the product to TPT, but you have to be the copyright owner to file the report. What are the odds that the suthor of "The Dot" will ever see this product on TPT?

I read somewhere that you can't use your personal version of PowerPoint to create resources you are going to sell, that you have to buy a business or commercial version. Do you know if this is true? I'm not Lauren, but no, that's not true (just as writers don't need a special license to write books using Word). The clip art that's provided within Office programs might have restrictions, but not the use of the program itself. I write my own short passages! Sometimes I will see what other similar products have written, but I always make sure my description is genuine to my brand and my vision. Things I Always Consider: -How can teachers use this? -How did I use this in my classroom? Real examples always help! -What is included (topics, content, math concepts, standards, etc). Teachers are often looking for specific standards of skills they need to cover while browsing on TPT! Love, MinimalistMrs

They usually write their own or hire someone to write passages specifically for their resources. This way, there are no issues with copyrights.

Your very first resource has to be a free resource, so that's why it's not letting you put a price on it. You'll want to create a freebie, then you can upload your paid product. Hope this helps!

Hey! It can be necessary, if you're showcasing every page (or vital pages) of your product in a way that teachers could just print your preview or take a screenshot. What I do is type the word "preview" in a text box in PowerPoint, make it bold & very large, position it across the page, then change the transparency so it's more translucent.

Thanks for your video, It was very informative. I was just wondering if the “free” resource I have to give away can be just one game. I would like to sell a “box” of 50 games for PE and was thinking the free resource was just one of these games and then my second resource would be to sell all 50 games in a package. Hey, Julie! I'm afraid I'm not a tax expert - especially for the UK. My suggestion would be to join a Facebook group with other sellers and ask around. Some of the bigger groups, like Wallflowers, should have other UK sellers who would be able to point you in the right direction!

Hi- Thanks for the video! As far as copyrighted materials go... for my first free product- can it have copyrighted images in it since I am not selling it? I have my second product made and I made sure to only use images that say creative commons license under usage. Does that all sound correct? Thank you!

You can use an image with a creative commons license! As for other copy-written work, you can use it (even if your resource is free) without the express permission of the owner or publisher.

Not sure how you came to that conclusion from this video. A lot of teachers create resources for their students on their own personal (unpaid) time and on their own personal devices. Selling resources you created during school hours or using a school device would be unethical, according to most IP agreements written into teacher contracts. Teachers will need to consult with their individual districts/contracts to learn more about the specifics of their intellectual property agreements.
