One important thing to note that I'm not sure I've heard mentioned. Working in a WELL ventilated area is very important. And if not, use a respirator. The fumes a coating puts off, even while curing, are very strong.

Heyyyyyy the EC Details garage. These detailed instructional videos really make me want to do some ceramic coating pretty soon. I love a nice smooth and easy to clean vehicle. I still haven't done a true ceramic coating yet. I think OptiSeal was the closest I've come to doing one as far as process goes.

I found the panel prep dries virtually instantly. Temp was nice low 70s. I just wiped the panel a couple of times with the 1st panel prep towel figuring it would lift the contaminants onto the towel. I didn't feel like rubbing a dry towel on my freshly polished dry paint. Microscratches and didn't think it would clean much if all dry.

Great Video! Quick question. Before knew anything about detailing and Ceramic coatings, I got one applied professionally. They require a once a year maintenance at the shop and they are charging 350 and they said it would take 4-5 hours. Is this really necessary or should I just follow the what you guys have said about decon to wake up the coating? Thanks for all the info. You guys are awesome.

Can someone answer me a question?, I know you said use the pearl weave towel to level but do you also use a pearl weave towel to do your final wipe or do you use a more plush towel to do your final wipe?

Considering that the price of the 5+3 year stack is roughly the same as just the 8 year coating, which would be the one you would choose overall if time applying it didn't factor in the decision? I'm guessing the 5+3 year would have better gloss, hydrophobic properties, self cleaning and water spot resistance but the 8 year still might have better longevity/durability? Maybe the 8 would still have better chemical resistance as well? Or would the new entity if the 5+3 just be overall a bit better in every aspect? Also, when applying the 3 year into the 8 or 5 year, should a person be diligent about trying to use around the same amount of coating as the base layer? I'm more just wondering if it would try to use less product if it's that slick going on. Is it the same 10 to 12 drops to prime the applicator pad and 1 to 2 drops per panel after that? Thanks!

Does a ceramic coating need to be polished off to put your coating over it. I have a coating on mine dr. Beasley. Been about year. Since. Want to use yours. But do I need to strip. Polish it off first. Or can I just put all clean on it decontaminat it and wash then apply ?
