Just wondering what you would suggest for children that are not comfortable drawing? Use copies of maps and color them in? Encourage them to draw and that they will get better over time? Trace the map? Great video!

Tracing is the absolute best! I ask my younger students to do their best. With my first and second grader I help them or only give them something else to trace- like a basic outline of the area we are talking about without all the small details. Or, you could print off the map and have them color in the water/land/mountains- if they are in the early elementary years. You could draw a bit for them and help them along to encourage them and show how it can be done. Lots of options!

How do you incorporate the kinetic sand maps? Also, are you doing geography as a family subject? At what age do you recommend The Book of Marvels if you have mixed age groups?

Simple enough - they look at a country and map the shape of the country with the sand adding in rivers and mountains! We do geography as a family. The book of Marvels is great starting in upper elementary through adult!
