Great video. I just got a rescue a month ago and she is showing signs that she would enjoy agility, when we are out on our off leash walks in the woods. This will be help me work with her.

Puzzled. At the 2:08 minute mark the left hand is initially used to send the dog to wrap ‘right’ around cone, the followed several times using right hand to do the same thing. Series is repeated several times.
@pokeypig22
@pokeypig22 3 ай бұрын
The left hand starts as a forward send to get the dog to take the cone as a forward obstacle. The right hand then is cuing the turn/flip away. However, this is a super old video and I focus more on the verbals now and not on so much motion.

Great video. One caution is that left and right verbals need to be timed just right. If not timed correctly a dog may turn away from a jump instead of taking a jump and then turning. Remember, the dog is always right.
@pokeypig22

Dog Agility and Dog Training Psychology yes that can happen. I put “jump right” in my commands if needed. I also don’t use a directional if my body is already in position and telling them to go that way. So I use it more for distance, when I am behind, when they can’t see me or turning off contacts.

Noticed your dog is doing the obedience commands so fast. Did yours also do it slow at first and how can I get him to do them faster ? will they get faster automaticly by lots of practicing. Cause mine seem to sit down easy but at slow pace and even when I try to make it fun and exciting can't get him to do it very fast. Great video's watching them all so carefully, amazing trainer. Wish we had someone like you in my area :)

Exorc1st is yours a collie because if not I think it's just a collie thing to do everything at 100mph lol! If it's a collie is it a working bred collie and do you have a good relationship? My lab is a working bred lab and he's pretty quick but not always.

I have a shepherd mix and I'm super curious to know if he might understand left/right? I know border collies have higher cognition for language, but he knows other words, so perhaps left/right won't be so different? Thank you!! I loved this video.

Hi! I love your video!!! Have been following this guide over the past weeks with great results! Quick question, when do you start to teach the 2nd directional? Do you do all the way to the cone excercises with left and then start since the beginning with right? Of you do the first sequence (without the cone) with both directionals first? Thanks a lot!!!!!

I teach one direction until I can stand up and say... right right sit, down, right, back.... and then I will stop doing that direction and go to the other.

How long can a learning session be for a dog?
@pokeypig22
@pokeypig22 5 жыл бұрын
Melina Alfaro depends on the dog. I tend to spend 5-10 minutes each training session and have just a few goals or behaviors I am focused on. Ending while the dog still wants more and with a game of tug or cuddle time!

Hi I see from your videos that to educate the dog you give many treats....... How many treats we should give to a puppy to don’t exaggerate ????? Is ok to give her food instead of something else ??? Thanks Andrea

How long does it take? Athena didn't have it by the first day, as it seemed the dog in this video did?
@pokeypig22
@pokeypig22 8 жыл бұрын
It takes many sessions to get it on verbal only. It's an unnatural move for the dogs so takes a little longer than a sit or down. The dogs in the video already knew it, so sorry, it does look like one session.

Why Left hand always when turn L and right when R?
@pokeypig22
@pokeypig22 5 жыл бұрын
Great question. And something I don’t necessarily say you have to do anymore. But... because this is teaching left and right that will lead into me crossing behind my dog... I use the same hand as the hand that will lead the rear cross signal for my dogs. So when I start sending them over a jump (for example) and will cross behind, I signal with my inside hand first followed by my off arm. So if my dog is on my left, and they will take the jump and then turn left when I cross behind, my left arm starts the rear cross signal by dropping my shoulder and forward sending the dog and then my right hand follows for the switch. BUT when my dog is facing me or coming in for a threadle or a lap turn, I will use the off arm. So I really don’t think it matters which arm, just don’t use the same arm for both. So don’t use your right/dominant hand for both directions. They should learn to get signals from both hands. Sorry if this was confusing.

hmmm This left/right is not "take the first obsticle to your left/right"? for example RC on dogl walk or running after tunnel with fast dog and yu want him to take left/right obstacle cause you're to slow to show him :D I have cik/cap for jumping with turn. so is your left/right my cik/cap?
@pokeypig22
@pokeypig22 8 жыл бұрын
I use it as Directionals. To turn "left" when I want the dog to go that way. I don't use it to circle tightly the wing of a jump and wrap tight like cik/cap.
@yrleventhal

are the left and right cues for collection only ? Or for both directionals and collection ?
