Needed this. I’ve been struggling with panic attacks and knew it was an issue when it finally happened in front of my 5th graders. They had no idea what I was going through and I kept it together, but it was definitely triggering and makes me anxious now. Essential oils really help me on my wrists and just a tad under my nose 💓

My honest comment, get out of teaching as soon as you can, you will thank me for the rest of your life. Seriously, get out, it’s not worth it. There a reason why more than 50% off teachers who go into it quit within their first five years.

This is the #1 thing I’m worried about- the only thing I’m not 100% sure how to deal with when I become a teacher. So I second this!!

I really appreciate this!!! I have really bad anxiety/social anxiety and I worried I wouldn't be good at my job (I'm a counselor). This year I had to get up in front of middle school classes and give lessons on mental health. It was so nerve wracking and I struggled a lot. I still do! (Today we did yoga and I was anxious all night last night). But just accepting that you have that anxiety and even telling the kids that and being honest can make them realize how normal it is. Also, promoting therapy and mental health is wonderful!

Hi Mrs Brittany, thank you for sharing about your anxiety and glad you found ways to keep it in check. I didn't have anxiety until I entered college where it's mostly the coursework as the main trigger. What has helped me is journaling, take a deep breath, focus on something soothing, and music. You might want try to journaling and putting essential oils to calm your nerves.

thank you sm for talking about anxiety! my anxiety disorder is what gives me the most doubts about my ability to be a good teacher one day. your tips were so helpful so thank you! for anyone with similar struggles: whenever i get down on myself about it, i try to think of myself as a kid and how nice it would've been to have a teacher who rly understood anxiety and the importance of mental health. i try to see it as a strength in teaching bc it makes me more empathetic to students going through similar things!

Ms. Brittany, I have been working on a few short stories and poems as well as a chapter for my novel. I love how your sixth grade class is a creative writing class where your students write fiction stories and they have recently started developing their characters. Your seventh grade and eighth grade students are writing essays, but I acknowledge how important it is for all writing assignments to spark creativity and wonder in students as they conjure magic through words. I love you

Thank you so much! I really believe in talking with students one on one at the end of class or outside human to human. I think it's important for them to know we aren't angry with them, but instead here to work WITH them to change their behavior to create a more mindful environment. I also do a lot of classroom management/team building at the beginning of the year or quarter to create a "team" within the classroom so that the students can work together on creating this mindful space that everyone can thrive in

Hi Brittany, I really appreciate your videos. I'm thinking of starting a new career as a 6th or 7th grade English teacher. I always loved school, English especially, and did well in it. To this day, I'm an avid reader of all kinds of books and I love to write. Also I've always been inclined towards children, teaching them, helping them with problems, etc. and some of my favorite teachers, who I remember to this day, were my English teachers. I'm still not sure if it's the right career path for me. Any advice from you? Or anyone else in the comments. Thank you so much.
