Probably a little bit of water, water itself will make rice sticky. There are some sticky rice tutorials on youtube

I never got to learn from my mom because she died when I was in elementary school, you are very lucky to have her teach you, Linda. Cherish this moment and give respect to your parents. P.S. I learned to cook by myself in my 20s anyway, thank God for the internet. 😅
