Teaching Vermillion: The Palette

Vermillion tutorial! The Palette is where you get your paint. Seems straight forward, and Vermillion gives you some flexibility with saving and loading custom palettes. This is a free series of tutorials for Vermillion, the oil painting app for virtual reality by the Aviary. It is available on SteamVR and the Oculus store.
You can find the palettes in %appdata%\..\LocalLow\The Aviary\Vermillion\Palettes. Zip up the entire folder containing the .vrmln and thumbnail, and share them alongside the thumbnail.

Please help! I love this, but I am running into a HUGE bummer in that the paint is stingie on the palate. It doesn't load up no matter what. I reload the palate again, and the same. I also get black streaks, like coming from the brush, even when I've cleaned the brush. Also with the scraper, doesn't want to load. I'm really going nuts, any help would be great!!!

One thing you did not mention is that if you have a nice colour on the canvas but dont have it in your mixing tray or palette, you can take a clean brush and take a little paint off the canvas and put it on your palette and have an infinite amount.

Yes, this is an easy way to get colors out of a painting. The Rigger Brush works well for this. I hope to do a Tips and Tricks video including more of this sort of thing. Thanks for watching, and the comment!

How do you access the saving the palette menu?

In the main control window, one of the icons on the side is for the palette. There is a "Save Palette" button on that main menu page. There is a separate list of "default" palettes and your custom ones.

Very nice tutorials, thanks for it. I have one question how the ink dries in vermillion… if it dries with time on the canvas so they will blend more or less depending on how long you take to interact with it….

The paint in Vermillion will never actually dry. You can come back after hours and it will still be as wet and blendable as when you first start. Vermillion uses Layers to allow you to over-paint as if it was dry. This also lets you go back and rework the background even if you have a foreground object on top.
